The plot follows Baek Kang-hyuk (played by Ju Ji-hoon), a trauma surgeon with a history of war zone experience, who takes over a neglected team at a Seoul university hospital. With his straightforward manner and down-to-earth experience, he transforms the department into an efficient emergency center, facing bureaucracy, budget cuts, and internal corruption.
The series is based on a webtoon or work called Trauma Center: Golden Hour, written by Han Sani, bringing more authenticity to the plot.

An Unexpected Favorite!
I went into The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call without really knowing what to expect, especially since it’s not a romance, but I ended up being genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it.The story is incredibly interesting and keeps you engaged from beginning to end. There’s so much action, urgency, and intensity that it never feels slow or boring. Every episode had me invested in what was happening and wanting to see how each situation would unfold.
I also really enjoyed the medical aspect of the story. It manages to explain complicated situations without making the drama feel like a lecture, while still giving the characters enough depth to make you care about what they’re fighting for.
The action scenes were definitely one of my favorite parts. The emergencies feel intense and chaotic, and the pacing keeps everything moving without giving you much time to get bored. I also loved the balance of tension and humor, which made the heavier moments easier to digest.
I was honestly surprised by how much I liked this. I usually gravitate toward romance, so watching a drama where that isn’t the focus and still becoming this invested was such a nice change.
And now I’m really looking forward to season 2. The first season left me genuinely excited to see where the story and characters go next, and I really hope the second season keeps everything that made this one so enjoyable.
This was definitely a pleasant surprise, and I’m very glad I gave it a chance.

A Medical Drama That Chooses Realism Over Convention
This is a surprisingly scientific and medically accurate drama, and that is both its greatest strength and the main reason it may not appeal to a wider audience. Unlike many medical series that simplify cases, heighten emotions, or focus mainly on personal relationships, this drama is far more interested in showing what the life of an ER doctor actually feels like. It captures the pressure, unpredictability, and emotional swings of emergency medicine in a way that feels unusually authentic. That realism, however, also makes the series less accessible for regular viewers. Those expecting clear story arcs, dramatic buildup, and satisfying narrative payoffs may find it distant or difficult to follow. There is not much traditional story building, but that seems intentional rather than a flaw. The show’s goal is not to create a heavily dramatized hospital story, but to immerse the audience in the unstable rhythm of emergency medicine.
Because of that, the drama can feel less guided and less emotionally structured than others in the genre. It does not always stop to explain events or shape them into a neat narrative. Instead, it asks viewers to experience the uncertainty, uneven pace, and emotional highs and lows that ER doctors face. That may not work for everyone, but for those who value realism, it offers something rare and impressively authentic.

If you love the most popular medical Kdramas, you will like this one
I loved this drama, not because it broke the mold, but because it uses the same formula that I love. This drama wasn’t something extraordinary, it was just fun to watch. As someone who loves the trope of “a doctor whose God’s gift to medicine and his found family”, this was perfect for me. There are stuff you can critique but much more to enjoy.
It was fun.

Fun watch if you turn off your brain
This is gonna be a short and sweet review of this show.It was an easy watch and you cant help yourself but get invested in the characters and rooting for them.
Is it a realistic show? not really. There are moments where things happen that a doctor would never actually do and that are ethically questionable. Those things happen to keep the show interesting and I respect that. Those moments did take me out of the show because of how ridiculous they were but apart from that, i had a fun time watching and would recommend it.

Peolple first
Great Ju Ji Hoon. It can be said that his character alone keeps the series going. Everything focuses on this exceptional doctor who puts people first before interests. He builds his team and moves forward with his mission without compromising. A hero.If I could make one suggestion, it would be on the title. It's not inspiring, "The trauma code: Heroes on call" is too long. Who remembers it to recommend it to a friend?

Intense, no dull moments, inspring
I did not read any of the reviews nor comments here regarding this series. As I have watched many medical series such as Dr. Romantic, Doctor Slump and Doctors, I would expect lots of blood. However, this is in another level.
Sure, there is politics, yet somehow Dr. Baek has proven himself to be more than competent to head the Trauma Center. He is a no non-sense doctor who aims to save every patient who is under his care. He may be strict, or unreasonable to others, but he has compassion. He knows his calling and that what drives him.
As for Dr. Yang, or Anus or Number One, he has the biggest transformation in the series.
I love Nurse Gangster, being in the Trauma Center for quite some time showed her strength and determination.
I also like Dr. Park, who showed his true reason in getting close to Dr. Baek.
And let us not forget Dr. Han who became his ally later on.
All the actors did a great job.
Every episode was intense, though there may be quiet and slow moments, those were important to break the intensity of the accidents and hospital chaos. There are funny moments which I also enjoyed that added color to the series. I like that every episode is under a hour and I think 8 episodes is just right to see the turnaround in the hospital.
This is an inspiring series, not just for doctors, but for every professional who had chosen a certain career - to find the why behind their choices.

Enjoyable, overall. Fast paced series. Good dramedy with some serious and touching scenes and some LOL moments. It reminded me of the Jdrama Iryu Team Medical Dragon. I liked Dr. Baek singular focus of helping patients and trying to save lives instead of worrying about the cost or deficits. Yes, I get that hospitals are for profit companies but they shouldn't be at the expense of true care for patients. I really like the whole cast and I was especially impressed with Choo Young Woo as Dr Yang b/c I just watched him in Mercy for None and I hated him there but he's s affable and sweet here!
I wish we would have seen that bastard Dr Hong punished as he was ornery til the end! I did love the scene where Dr. Baek threw him down into that chair! One of the highlights of the show!

As someone who read the Trauma Code manhwa, I was eager to see how the live-action adaptation would bring the high-intensity world of emergency medicine to life. While it doesn’t fully capture the depth of its source material, the drama still delivers a solid medical series with gripping moments, well-explained medical cases, and an engaging, if somewhat predictable, storyline. The Cast
The cast was decent overall. The male lead was slightly older than expected for the role, which took some getting used to, but his performance was convincing, particularly in emotionally charged and high-pressure medical situations. He carried the weight of his character well, adding depth to the drama. The supporting cast was well-chosen, effectively portraying the teamwork, tension, and camaraderie within a trauma unit. Their chemistry made the hospital setting feel dynamic and realistic.
The Medical Aspects
One of the strongest points of the drama was how well it explained the medical cases. The trauma and surgery scenes were detailed and engaging, making them both informative and intense without being overwhelming. The show still managed to maintain a sense of urgency and realism. The balance between medical accuracy and storytelling was handled well, making it easy for viewers—whether familiar with medical dramas or not—to follow along.
The Story
Story-wise, the drama was solid but not groundbreaking. It maintained a steady pace, effectively blending emergency cases with personal struggles. While the emotional moments were impactful, some felt slightly forced rather than naturally developed. The show did a decent job of balancing medical action with character-driven drama, though certain subplots could have been explored in more depth. Despite these minor issues, the narrative remained engaging enough to keep viewers invested.
Final thoughts
The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is a decent watch, especially for fans of medical dramas and those familiar with the manhwa. While it doesn’t completely match the depth and complexity of its source material, it still delivers enough tension, action, and well-crafted medical cases to make it an engaging series. If you’re looking for a medical drama with a mix of high-stakes emergencies and character-driven storytelling, this one is worth checking out.
