I haven't watched the parent story so my review is solely based on this drama.

Honma Kai is blessed with genius mind and Ichinose Jiro with compassionate heart. When it comes to physical strength, They aren't some Kind of super heroes who will beat every single villain out there but they got skills man! I have read the synopsis of original k-movie, It was based on a single kidnapping case but as this version was extended into a drama, Many thrilling stories are introduced with each episode. Episode 4 gave special attention to Honma Kai, and followed by it, Ep 5 features an emotional yet funny character introduction of Jiro-chan. This will not follow your basic trope of hate to love kinda friendship as they pretty much clicked with each other in ep 1 itself but you will gradually see their chemistry getting better.
Apart from their journey as police trainees, The plot holds a thrilling twist in final three episodes. You have to patiently wait for it because writer did a great job in confusing viewers. We can say that the start was weak but It gets better and ultimately become one of the best cop drama.
Also there's something You can't resist, Hirano's voice !!! So what you waiting for, try it ASAP.

A good filler drama!

I would recommend watching this without drawing any comparison to its parent story midnight runners, as Japan has its own way of representing a story and also it has been extended into a drama.
It was quite a watch every weekend. The duo was good, had fun watching their comic scenes. Few cases were interesting as the story unfolds. Loved the cameos.
Still, there was something missing that failed to hit my spot. It could have been more engaging. I was quite disappointed with the ost. Most of the Japanese dramas are known to create a single ost for the entire drama that turns out to be quite awesome and just get engraved in your mind. But I wasn't happy with this case. (just my personal preference)
Rewatch value is quite low for me as I already know how the story will unfold.
Just enjoy watching Kai kun and Jiro chan...

Breathtaking Underrated Gem!

This show really took me by surprise! I can honestly say I think this is one of the best crime/detective/police shows I have seen in a long time. I don't think many people give this story a chance or compare it to the Korean parent movie/story too much.

The story is pretty original, but there are some predictable or typical stories that I've seen within other Japanese crime/detective dramas or movies. This story moves pretty quickly but nothing is too confusing or hard to understand; it sort of feels like it could have been a movie, however the 10 episodes were absolutely perfect, and I binge watched them all within one day. The show was so exciting it all went by quick as lightning!

The episodes completely blended together, so the story really didn't waver much or drag because of side stories, and it wasn't too complicated by past stories that were unnecessary. The main cast really held together quite well, it was hilarious and was really wonderful to watch them all grow as police officers and as humans.

The music was really energetic, which led to getting excited and expecting a lot from each episode. I have to say that I did NOT see the ending coming at all! This show has one large mystery that sort of sets the base for the entire show but it doesn't repeat it within every episode, which is nice; though the lead up to the finale is strong and the ending was amazing! I am absolutely positive that this is one fantastic story!

All-rounder drama!

It's funny, thrilling and touching at same time.

Somehow I found one of the casts remind me of Joey from Friends, lol. He is that funny!

If you've watched the Korean version before, you'll find the first 2 episodes somewhat familiar, but as it progresses, this Jap version takes its own story, while still keeping the essence of parent story

It's very well done, I especially love the plot twists and ending.

I'll say both the Korean and Jap version are amazing. It's a matter of whether you want to watch a movie or drama, really.

Casts are both great, story are amazing.
