It's actually my first time I am leaving my review on some drama.

And frankly speaking I really don't know how to review. But still this drama made me do so. I came across so many negative reviews of this drama in yt and fb I seriously thought I am not gonna like it but I was wrong completely wrong. I liked AOL so much but I liked this drama as much as I liked ashes of love ..but I did skipped so much while watching AOL but for this drama I seriously loved every episode. I have seen so many good reviews about Love and redemption..but for some reason I just didn't like it and wasn't able to complete it ..I just want to say don't judge this drama from others reviews ..give it a chance ..I seriously think this drama deserve higher rating than this and it is very underrated too.. I have seen so many comments complaining about female lead's acting and that she isn't suitable for this role but I seriously fell for her ..she was perfect for this role in my opinion and for Xu kai .. honestly speaking I was not a big fan of him but I think after this drama he is in the list of my top favourite actors .. overall this drama is not bad at all ..I have never watched any drama with this speed I always end up watching most of dramas half way and then get bored but this time I was so into this drama ..

The best xianxia drama I have ever seen

If you are looking for xianxia, historical and romantic drama, this is it. Some people may disagree but this is one of the best dramas about xianxia I have ever seen. The acting, the story, the music. It's just a masterpiece. It was worth my time. I rewatched it for over 4 times and I never get bored. Yes, there are scenes where I cried my heart out because of all the deaths but I still love it. I often get goosebumps at some scenes when the ML and FL are holding so much power. But the main reason I watched this drama is because of Xu Kai. I am a huge fan of him and his dramas.

About the love

The story line and the action scenes, acting, everything is perfect. I like the fighting scene more than emotional scenes. The enotion of characters are expressed throughout the story. I like the character Bai jue, His acting and expression are really Excellent. The characters are well played. The story have a good ending. Throughout the story th love feelings are well described to the the audience. The story starts with cold face Bai jue, his cold face attitude is perfectly played by the actor Xu kai, the protagonist Shang gu her childish character well played by Zhou Dongyu. The sacrifice for love, sacrifice for the peace of people ( the chief god Shang gu sacrificed herself for saving the people and to bring peace) .

Good production and nice CG

Having read the original novel, I found the story in the drama more completed and filled the gaps that were in the novel, so I preferred the drama from the novel. The production is good I can see they did a good job on editing, the CG are brilliant with good effort on the costume too. As it's a big production drama and they had a big budget.
The story maybe a bit complicated if this is the first out of this type of drama you see around all the fictional gods. But it remains logical in the story outline
All the actors did a good job, including the bad characters which makes the drama alive.
A good watch if you like pretty graphic and story around the gods etc. And a good looking ML 😜

Two lying gods and a clueless goddess

ShangGu, the supreme Goddess, sacrificed herself to save the Gods' realm from a catastrophe and her soul was shattered, much to the heartbreak of Bai Jue, her lover and a very powerful god. After the sacrifice and a war against the demons, Bai Jue was injured and disappeared.

Thousand of years later, a daughter, Houchi, was born to ShangGu's only disciple Gu Jun. She had very low spiritual powers and was often looked upon by the deities as undeserving of the high rank that was secured for her by her father. The young girl lived segregated in her father's palace at the command of her father, while trying very hard to improve her powers.

One day, HouChi appeared on the birthday of the high deity Dong Hua to save her friend. Unexpected by all, she demonstrated great powers and had an uncanny resemblance to ShangGu. Appearing on the scene was a young uprising star and a stranger to HouChi, QingMu who helped to resolved the conflict. QingMu strongly resembled Bai Jue who was ShangGu's lover. This left the older deities who had lived from the time of ShangGu very puzzled. Who were these two individuals? Meantime, secret evil forces were building up - so how were this pair of unsuspecting youngsters going to handle what was in store for them?

Overall, this drama was very entertaining. The cast was excellent; special effects was superb; costume was beautiful. There were a few dull moments but did not last long. Zhou Dong Yu did a great job as the mischievous young supreme goddess training to weld the great powers she possessed and as the helpless HouChi. But when it came to acting as the Supreme Goddess who was commanding the deities, she lacked the poise and majesty. And she was acting alongside tall and handsome actors like Xu Kai and Liu Xue Yi - she looked more like a little girl rather than a powerful goddess. I would think that Tiffany Tang would be more suitable for the job but the rest of the cast were too young for her.

As usual in most long dramas, the story was quite silly in parts. TianQi who was also in love with ShangGu had to embark on acquiring the power of chaos to sacrifice in place of ShangGu, nearly destroyed the three realms and was 'killed' by Bai Jue. Later, Bai Jue lied to keep HouChi away and was hated. These gods were certainly not honest, not team players and rather stupid. All these, of course, were ruse to make us felt sorry for them as the wrongfully accused. If I was to give this drama another title, it could have been called 'Two lying gods and a clueless goddess'.

I watched this drama twice. During the first round, I stopped at episode 15 and went on to watch Pearl Eclipse which was very good, as there was nothing exciting except for an obsessive jealous goddess. The first 10 episodes of Ancient Love Poetry felt like a comedy but the drama took on a more serious tone as it proceeded. Also, during the first round, the story felt haphazard and all over the place. But on the second round, the story got clearer.

Is this drama worth watching?

This drama takes place in a fantasy world where there are gods, devils, demons, humans and immortals.

The drama has a naughty sweet chief of Chaos and a coldly reserved God of Fire as the main CP.

Storyline: The plot is tragically abusive and amazingly beautiful. The couple faced setbacks and inner conflict with their goals. It can be described as, you are the only one who cannot die. The plot was stretched a lot near the ending and some scenes were not really necessary. There were many loopholes and there were few logical points. Shanggu, as the chief of chaos, was to shoulder the three realms and be responsible for the peace. Shanggu is upright and sympathetic to the lives in the three realms.

Music: Honestly, the music is amazing and brings emotions to life. The lyrics are not bad and the timing that the music is inserted into the drama is lowkey. Not much to say because I'm not an expert in the music area.

Acting: Zhou Dong Yu (Shanggu) portrays Shanggu as a childlike god who was naughty growing up with Yuemi (Luo Qiu Yun) and Tian Qi (Liu Xue Yi). She shows how Shanggu changes throughout the story and how she deals with incoming obstacles. Xu Kai (Bai Jue) plays Bai Jue, one of the four true gods who is coldly reserve. During the beginning, his acting was stiff but as the drama continues, his acting felt normal and even a bit endearing. His character had noticably changed as the episodes go by. His eyes were the key part in every emotional scenes. The two actor's chemistry was respectfully amazing with the drama casts.

One thing I liked about this drama was the tragic scenes of the tribulation of chaos. The emotion of sadness and heartache was terribly bad but their acting was very convincing and well portrayed. The long lasting effect of the tribulation of chaos made me feel like there was nothing that could've changed the outcome. This felt like a huge weight was pressing down on my heart as I watch Zhou Dong Yu continue acting in the drama.

One thing I disliked was the ending. (Not gonna spoil it but I felt that the protagonist halo was so annoying and the ending wasn't really happy or satisfying.)

Honestly, this review was a bit critical because I just finished episode 49 and the ending has influenced me to write some disturbing loopholes/negative side of the drama.

I do love their storyline and character development. I still do recommend this drama if you enjoy watching Xianxia dramas and Ten Miles of Peach blossoms. This is like a shared universe of Ten Miles of Peach blossoms which was a nice to reminisce and remember some familiar names.

Interconnected Characters

This drama is boring at first but mind you this is one of the best drama of all time in par with Ten Miles peach blossom and Ashes of love.

Actually This story revolves on the much higher realm. Higher than Dong Hua and other Characters and Ten miles peach blossom. I am having goosebumps here because I saw dong hua again in an unexpected way. If your a fan of ten Miles peach blossom and eternal love of dream they are connected. Its just that Bai Jue and Shangu are higher deities. Worth to watch and your time . Kudos to the directors.

I am a freaking guy but I cried from episode 39-43 damn

Up There with TMOPB

If you are a fan of xianxia dramas, or any kind of good romances, then this is the one to watch. I got hooked on the xianxia genre after having come across the Chinese TV series Three Lives Three Worlds and Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, renamed Eternal Love on Netflix. I was so impressed with that series, that I worried I wouldn't find something that good again. I was wrong. I was sucked into the world of heavenly beings and their adventures completely in Ancient Love Poetry because the writing, production and performances were that good.

Once again we have a world of heavenly gods, demons, and lower immortals that co-exist happily, and otherwise, in a realm filled with beauty. If Heaven were like this, I would truly never want to leave. The landscapes, though CGI created, are stunning to behold, pulling you right into their world and to the story. Here we have two young people who gradually fall in love as they navigate hardships and responsibilities. Bai Jue, masterfully played by Xu Kai, is the serious, heavenly god who keeps to himself, preferring a simple and peaceful life to the lively social scene in the heavenly realm--earning himself the title "Ice Cube" by his peers. He is forced out of seclusion when he is tasked with the duty of training a new chief goddess by the name of ShangGu. ShangGu is his polar opposite--unruly, spoiled, unserious and full of mischief. Her efforts to lighten him up exasperates him to no end, as her relentlessness slowly breaks through his barriers and into his heart.

ShangGu, played by the breathtaking Zhou Dongyu, knows she has a big responsibility but she would rather spend her days being idle and sleeping late, much to the chagrin of her very strict master Bai Jue. She resorts to coming up with all kinds of mockery to revenge herself on her exasperatingly handsome, wet blanket of a teacher. Egging her on are her close friends Tian Qi ( Liu Xue Yi) and Yue Mi (Luo Qiu Yun). When war threatens the heavenly realm, ShangGu is forced to grow up and take her responsibilities seriously. She comes to learn quickly that the future of the world lays squarely on her shoulders as the life she envisions for herself could be in jeopardy.

The twists and turns of this drama keep you glued to your seat and the 40 minute episodes make it completely binge-worthy. There are some slow episodes and Liu Xue Yi, one of my favorite C-drama actors, is sorely underused, but all deliver remarkable and memorable performances that stay with you. I can't say enough about Zhou Dongyu's performance as ShangGu. She is perfection in looks and talent. She doesn't just act. She becomes, and that is a rare gift. She made me cry so many times and made me deeply care for her character. Bravo! Xu Kai was sublime. His performances are so understated and simple in a way that draws him into your heart. He knows how to make you see his inner struggles. That is the mark of a person that truly knows his craft. I am very impressed by his talent and can't wait to see what he does next.

The OST is gorgeous and captivates the romantic nature of the show perfectly. ( Looking forward to adding to my my C-drama playlist.). I highly recommend this beautiful production for anyone who wants to great romance they can get lost in.

The shadows of the mains are the best characters in this drama

It was boring, then interesting, then boring again. Noble sacrifices were staples and ran rampant in this drama.

That I really hated the main villain of this drama and I loved the CP and their allies makes me feel that the actors were really good. Aside from the CP, I especially loved TianQi, Yuemi, FengRan, JingJian and YuanQi.

There are like 3 parts in the story:
Episode 1-mid16 ->The sacrifice of Sanggu and fall of the God realm
Episode mid16-42-> The new 3 realms and the story of QuingMu and Houchi
Episode 43-49-> The reign of BaiJue and the return of God realm

Part 1 started with an undisciplined Sanggu meeting her cold teacher BaiJue who can train her to become the chief god chaos. They fell in love not knowing that Sanggu needs to sacrifice herself to save the 3 realms. Before the sacrifice, they have spent a bittersweet day with each and so if not for wanting justice for Yuemi, I would have been content with just part 1. With Sanggu's death, it already gave that noble sacrifice but still with hope for the future feels. Part 2 with the QuingMu and Houchi love story who were in a way reincarnations of BaiJue and Sanggu was actually the only part I liked. They are so tragic that towards Episode 41, I was ugly crying. Part 3 wrapped up everything. It explained the motivations of BaiJue but I still think that he should have explained it to Houchi/Sanggu himself. I was also quite happy with his father and son outing with YanQi.

Zhou Dong Yu as Sanggu/Houchi was such as revelation. I wouldn't exactly call her beautiful, maybe just cute and pretty, but her microexpressions can really get you. Though having the same spirit, she was able to portray the differences between the two. Sanggu was born with a status as a chief god since she was destined to become the god of chaos. She was spoilt, entertainment-loving girl who needed some strict guidance. Her growth to becoming a noble god who can sacrifice was wonderful to see. Houchi was a girl nominally called a goddess but had weak power. She was often left by her father and was denied/unloved by her mother. She was somewhat insecure but still maintains an indomitable spirit. Her stand to be accepted as who she is and not as substitute to Sanggu really made my heart ache for her.

Xu Kai as BaiJue/Boxuan/QuingMu was also great. I was really amazed at how quickly he can change his expressions, a heartless bastard one second then a longing lover the next. His eyes speaks. There were too few scenes of him as Boxuan, but I have no doubt that given the same situation BaiJue would do the same things as QuingMu for the woman he loves, seeing how much he was willing to sacrifice for Sanggu and basically he's same person. Maybe I just found the things he did as QuingMu to be more sweet. He even had a puppy dog expression when he was begging GuJun to let him marry Houchi. But it was QuingMu's expression as he was getting integrated to BaiJue that struck me. It was full of pleading and pathos as he accepted his fate.

So I guess even if it's a happy ending for Sanggu and BaiJue and in essence they are QuingMu and Houchi, I am still sad that QuingMu and Houchi did not disappear together.

MUST WATCH

ANCIENT LOVE POETRY

PLOT:
The story of this series has a hint of the Ten Miles of Peach Blossom type of genre, but a short version of it. I know the plot is not that unique, but then again, I find it really good how they did the scripting and how they tell the story with no difficulty. It was easy to digest, and there were some heartbreaking scenes, but then again, it is a mellow or mild type of drama. I don't have any complaints about the story; all in all, it was good.

CHARACTER:
Hands up to both lead characters for giving us a solid interpretation of their roles. One of the reasons I invested my time in finishing this one is because of Xu Kai. I first saw him in one of his projects, Arsenal Military Academy, and I was so obsessed that I binge-watched his other dramas, like The Story of Yanxi Palace. Hands up to all staff and crew for making this drama!!!!

OST:
NO WORD TO SAY I SAVE THE SONGS TO MY CELLPHONE!!
AND IT'S ON REPEAT.

RE-WATCH VALUE:
I will watch it again

thank you and have a great day!!!!

Not happy with ending though it is a happy ending.

I watch this drama because of my favourite artist Zhang Ya Qin (feng ren ) ,her entry was at 16th episode . I waited for her entry so long because I enjoyed watching all the previous episodes . Min lead actor is never been my favourite but he make me amazed by his acting ,so pure do innocent look in his face and his acting mesmerized me alot till end. About lead actress I didn't like her at the very starting of the drama because my favourite is feng ren so I always wanted her to be main lead but glad she had lots of scene from 16 episodes and her story was also ver good ,like always she looked cute and beautiful . But I started liking main lead actress acting after Qing Mu death she amazed me and that scene made me cry when Qing me illusion appeared to deliver his last message to her . She was too good. Every thing just perfect acting ,film sets ,all VFX . But ending of the story made me little disappointed . I want to see complete family at the end and some scenes of them .then Feng ren 's love reincarnation . Who was the boy .
I think the story need on more episode or season 2. Thirdly I thought Tian qi 's love story also get good ending that's why story kept the statue of his love till end but nothing happened . That's why 9.5 out of ten because of ending part

I've never watched FL in a drama before, so this is a first. Like many, I was not really attracted to her/thought she was great to pair up with ML. However, I grew to like her in this role.

The plot was interesting. I never seen a FL "lead" all of heaven/all the immortals, so it was interesting to me. It meant that she has to take on a lot of responsibilities and "grow up." There is a lot of character development for FL. Of course, like many xianxia dramas, it does involve "love over multiple lives." I particularly enjoyed the 2nd arc when our FL and ML were in their 2nd lives - and they fell in love with each other, but their entities were technically "not them." I thought that was interesting concept. It was heartbreaking trying to understand the leads, if they'd "remember" each other or not. I was on the verge of screaming at the drama.

There are a LOT of characters here, and I wish there was time for all of them. Overall, the chemistry was great between who it needed to be. I was heartbroken for some of the side characters, because they loved who they loved and unfortunately, it hurt someone else. Especially Yue Mi waiting on her love to be reciprocated. :(

Although the drama is LONG (af!!) - it was paced out nicely, and didn't feel rushed.
