"Most people’s eyes are shallow...."

"Most people’s eyes are shallow, seeing only the skin-deep appearance and not the ‘bones,’ the appearance of the inside.”.

This drama has Ren Jia Lun and Bai Lu, they make up the outward beauty, the part that draws you into their story. But it's their connection, their romance, their determination to be together forever no matter what that makes up the 'bones' of this story. This is the inner beauty.

I watched this right after finishing One and Only and I can only say how absolutely perfect this drama was. From start to finish I loved every second of it.

I should warn you there is angst, needless supporting character death and a couple of characters, if you're like me that you will hate on sight.
If you like action, there aren't really any action scenes (aside from a couple of fights), if you like fast paced and/or spice, you should watch something else this drama won't be for you.
But if you love romance, slow, burn romance, slice of life romance... the sink into a blanket in front of a roaring fire romance, sweet, sweet kisses, warm hugs in a bathtub this is the drama for you.

If you're a fan of Ren Jia Lun give this a chance (especially immediately after you've watched One and Only) you won't regret it. My only regret is that I didn't watch these two dramas sooner.

Majestic Masterpiece!!!

Got fall in love with this drama and the latter one "One And Only". The "One And Only" which is the historical drama of this sequel quite amazed me also due to their ethereal love to each other though, they didn't end up together and much worse they died after😭. Good thing, this sequel make up for the hearbreaking ending of "One And Only" as they reincarnated in the modern world and become husband and wife at the early episode. The ML is a very reserved man and not a proactive, maybe because he's too serious with his career as being a well-known scientist and at the same time professor. How cute he is everytime he become dull-headed when it comes to romance and sweet gestures😂, too shy to initiate the moves👀. Well, the FL will have to take the lead🤣. I admire her for being unwavering woman and kinda cool of how she gets her way into his heart (girl power💪). This drama speaks loudly their admiration intent gaze and smooth action yet, for me it appeared too sweet than skinship. The only hindrance here is the diverse family rules and manners of the ML's clan, I hate the guts of his mother but, eventually I got her point after. I was very satisfied with Ren Jialun and Bai Lu's portrayal of their characters and how they naturally articulate it. Just recently, they both received an awards which convince me more to pursue untill the sequel. Therefore, I conclude it is beyond three dimensional👏👏👏. I was filled with good vibes with all of their OST (walang tapon✔). In the poem "Fu In The Imperial Park" which Shi Yi wrote, there's a line there that retain on my mind 'Beauty and the soul are given, the heart is overturned'😍. Anyway, kudos to all of the production team.

One & Only was better in terms of story. This is better for romantic moments between the leads.

One & Only was better in terms of story. This is better for romantic moments between the leads. In one and only we all knew and saw the love between the two, but they never really got to take it a step forward. They were always confined by their positions in life and their responsibilities. So, Forever & Ever is a good sequel for their story, however the 30 episodes are a bit much.

The one thing that went wrong with the story is that apart from the leads, it has a completely different cast of character. None of them came back to life, I wish her cousin and the general had gotten a second chance as well. Having the crown prince reincarnate would also have been a better antagonist compared to a pain-in-the-ass mother/mother-in-law and shady brother. It would have made the story more interesting. (I read on MDL that Mei Xing is supposed to be the crown prince and Wen Xin princess Xing Hua, but their story arc wasn't all that good) But at least, this time around he chose to let go of his crush on the FL and decided to look at Wen Xin but again that was doomed as well.

The ML's step mother is kinda weird. If you have to take out your frustrations on someone your son is the better candidate, he is the one who went against your wishes and married someone you didn't want him to. She could be less of a controlling harpy and stereotypical mother-in-law as well as step-mother. She has been outright rude to Shi Yi since the first moment they met. I am not a fan of decisions she makes coddling her son when he led to the death of her daughter, how on the earth she could forgive him. Either Shi Yi Or Zhou Sheng Chen would have ended up dead if they hadn't dragged along his punishment for so long.

The prequel had a more powerful impact, but I liked this one for its uniqueness as well. The relationship between the two and their marriage is something that we can all hope for. The easy camaraderie and care for each other was so good to watch.

ZSC and SY has gone a long way to be finally together

As everyone knows, Forever and Ever is the sequel for One and Only.
I personally watched OAO then only FAE (though I understand some watched either one only, or the other way round).

Extreme brief summary:
Shi Yi (FL), a voice actor, dubbing for a movie which the character is named Zhou Sheng Cheng (ML). Because of this, when she heard ML's name to be ZSC (same as the character for the movie she is dubbing for), she got intrigue and went after him, and there goes the love story of theirs.

Story:
If you're looking for an exciting drama full of sweetness, laughter, or every episodes of honey splash to you, it might not be what you think so. Even though the OAO and FAE are not linked, its more of their past life and present time, 2 separate stories. The drama plot might be boring for viewers just watching FAE. Nevertheless , yes the drama is still filled with cute and happy scenes. I would still think FAE lacking in story. Family feud is not significantly bad (that's because they view the family's money to be shared and supported by the whole family, and not for individual's benefit - but of course there will be that ONE person who thinks the other way round).

SY is more dominant in this. ZSC is like a rookie in love but you can see his character develop and he is more into showing his love behind without expressing.

Either way, all because I've watched OAO beforehand, the links of what happened in OAO comes into mind whenever i watched FAE. An example would be, in OAO - ZSC had to go fight into war without knowing when to be back, whereas in FAE - you will see ZSC being a character that's very particular on his schedule. You can see how much the writer put the effort for the story.

Acting:
No bias here but both Bai Lu and Allen Ren acting is top notch. Every small detail have made them into the character. Just FYI, both of them have totally different personalities from the characters (you can see it in the BTS). All the second and sub-characters acting were so good as well. Definitely enjoyed the drama.

OST:
THEM FEELS!!! I've been replaying it non-stop ever since!

Thoughts:
I'd actually rewatch the whole OAO and FAE together again after a few months. It just felt the drama from lovely and sad (OAO) up to sweet and healing (FAE). The drama is interesting and i enjoyed it. Next round will be reading through the book it was adapted into hehe

Picked up treasure from dramaland

Initial Considerations: How do I put it in words, the story is just amazing. At first, I had my doubts to the show, because I watched One and Only, so now that they were shifting to the modern setting, I had my qualms that firstly, they were going to restart the whole relationship since only 1 person has the past memories, which means starting on a new slate, hence meaning that I would have had wasted my investment in their past relationship. Secondly, due to the restart, it'll be slow paced romance all over again.

Storyline: However, it surpassed my expectations, and the trailer really hyped me up a lot. After watching the first 2 episodes, I was fired up. Now in the contemporary era, Shiyi finally makes the first move, then so does ZhouShengChen. To skip all the modern standards of getting together, they just skipped all that parts, which was also done really naturally. On the plus side, the scenes were never cringey, but cute funny and realistic. I'm quite sensitive to over the top characters either ML or FL trying to get the attention of their counterparts, but this was done extremely well by the director and writer, such that both progressed together very naturally.

Chemistry: Consequently, I had started this drama mainly cause of Bailu (I extremely enjoy her acting its superb) and RenJiaLun (recently watched under the power and realised his good acting too). Heads up, when you watch forever and ever, you will realise how good their chemistry is, like not just good, its off the charts. Just a few glances, you understand what emotions they are trying to portray, just a few actions, and it speaks a thousand words. The endearing, conservative and sheepish looks from both ML and FL were true to their character and uniquely themselves even though their characters might come off to be rather similar.

Prequel: Lastly, if you watched One and Only, this really takes the cake to build on the vestige of emotions from the previous drama, due to the reuse of OSTs (love them), and some remnants of similar actions from their previous reincarnation. It soothes pent up frustration from One and Only's slow burn romance and circumstances that prevented the two leads from becoming together, as well as the tragic end to both of them. Also, you can pick up on some quick witted Easter eggs in the story like Shiyi's phone number (credit to the commenters under the drama post) and calligraphy, lotus flower references to parallel to previous drama etc.

Additional details: It'll definitely make you squeal with excitement over the 辰时cp (couple) and laugh at the awkwardness of some interactions that are also cute at the same time. It'll make you irritated with the antagonist's attempts to keep them asunder. Definitely, its a great catch from 2021 dramas and also my last drama before I have to start cramming for my exams :")

Ratings: ratings wise, you can look at other dramas I reviewed, I usually only review on those I approve on and ratings wise I'm rather stringent on, gave a lot go plus point for the chemistry. Good ones are usually 7.5 and up (highest I've rated is 9.5 for one drama) in my own opinion* and 7 is ok like it but the put together of the story could be better or a specific area that I minused from, and etc etc. So this rating of 8.5 should say quite a bit about how good this drama is. Okay that's it for my rant ill go back to fangurling about this for the subsequent episodes.

P.S. if you have the time, go watch the bts for one and only & forever and ever, its hilarious. best bts I've ever watched, couldn't stop laughing

A perfect 10! Two of my top 10 actors/actresses are in the main lead parts. It can't get any better than this. I was reading some of the reviews online and some news media stated that Xu Kai and Bai Liu had chosen the wrong parts! NOT TRUE! They took the character of Zhou Shencheng and Shi Yi and made these characters come to life. What a great storyline! I usually don't give a perfect 10 to non-fantasy dramas... This had me focused from Episode 1 to Episode 30. I'm not going to any of the storylines away because you have to have your own opinion and you should see this. OMG! okay... okay! I will give something away... Are you ready? Allen Ren sings "As One" and Bai Lu sang "Heartbeat"... and they both can sing! Make sure you have a tissue next to you! You will cry for sadness and happiness! Hope you feel the same as I do when you see this beautiful Chinese drama. I have to give it to the story writer and producers... Well heck, all of the team did great and the 137 actors that help complete this story. BTW keep an eye on Ci Sha a fairly new actor. I know I am!

One of the best drama in 2021!!!

I hesitated a lot before watching this drama cause i thought it would be way too cringey but it turned out the opposite way from what i thought! I really love bailu and jialun chemistry... no need too much kiss scene, their chemistry is just on another level. Although this drama is about marriage but they don't really kiss a lot and no weird scene lol but somehow every scene is just sooo sweet and romantic... i love how they both trying to get closer and get to know each other more everyday. I don't know what else to say but this drama is just so romantic.... I recommend you to watch one and only first before watching this, it gives you different feeling. But it still feel so romantic watching this only without the prequel! I really love everything from this drama! I've been stuck in this drama for days now... i cant move on!

Perfect! The best cdrama I’ve ever watched.

I’m not a fan of modern dramas but this drama captured my heart, and it is now my ultimate favorite cdrama of all time. I rewatched One & Only because I feel like I’ve already watched all good historical/costume dramas, so i rewatched some of them. (Yes I like the pain🤣 jk) when I first watched o&o, I didn’t even thought of watching forever and ever because I thought it’s just a modern drama with same cast for leads but no connection with o&o ( i was wrong. It’s really a continuation of O&O). After rewatching o&o for the nth time, I’ve decided to watch forever and ever now, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made!!

I love the chemistry, the story, and the characters!! I only felt warmth and love throughout the series (and maybe a lil bit of anger because of his brother). No misunderstandings, and they are always communicating their thoughts. I super love it! I hope they make more dramas like this.

Acting was also good!! I super love the chemistry of all lovers here. When they cry, I also cry. Ren Jialun’s acting is top tier. THE BATH TUB SCENE???? DANG THE BEST ONE. THAT SCENE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I’VE EVER WATCHED. YALL SHOULD WATCH THIS DRAMA! <33

The best cdrama of "2021"

This is my first time writing a review so forgive me if I make any errors.
Ok lets get this straight, we got so many cdramas this year and among them only a few really impressed a large amount of audience. "Forever and ever" was able to be among the few and impress a very large amount of audience by gaining the hype as well as the good review from the critcics and all I can say is it deserved all the compliments. From the moment the cast were announced I was really excited to see the very professional actors BL and RJ. Even though I doubted Allen for his"no kiss policy" but I don't think the few kisses in the drama actually affected the storyline. I mean you could see in the eyes of the actors how deep and affectionate love they had for each other. The chemistry of our professor and voice actress was flowing through the screen. Everytime I saw them together simply talking or you know smiling with each other I would just blush and couldn't help the butterflies.
Even the color combinations of their clothes, the background were so soothing to the eyes.
The one thing I dislike in cdramas is complicated family relations or just family problems. I feel they just kill the vibe of the drama but for this one, I myself am so shocked that the complicated family didn't bother me too much. Maybe it was because the power ZSC hold of not caring for anyone but SY or maybe it was because I just cared about the couple. No matter the hardships both ZSC and SY supported each other till the end.
Another thing I just love about this drama is the OST. Forever and ever had such a good pack of OST that if you paid attention to the lyrics while watching the drama you would feel the expressions of the storyline. Especially the one Mao Buyi sang, I cannot get over it no matter how many times I listen to it .Even BL and RJ sang OSTs for each season. BL for" forever and ever "and RJ for "one and only".
For the first season, I am not a big fan of traditional or costumes drama but "one and only" had something so magnetic about it that I couldn't stop watching and praising for how beautiful it was. Thanks to the first season I got to know the depth of the characters and what kind of personality they carried. Even though it made me cry till my last breath but I would not mind loosing my tears all over again.
Both of the seasons equally impressed me and both of them were so worth my wait and hype. To anyone whose thinking to watch this drama, you can watch the first season and come back to it as you'll have a better understanding of the characters in the drama and also get the most beautiful scenes ever created in a cdrama but if you don't want to cry or get depressed because of the sad ending you can always watch the second season. The second season has a very few glimpse of the first and you won't feel that you have left too much. You can understand the storyline because the storylines of both the seasons are totally different.
Watch it or else you might regret afterwards for not watching the most beautiful cdrama ever made.

Disappointing sequel

😔… Oops. I’m surprised how much I didn’t like this drama to be honest. I skipped a lot in the second half of this, and the final showdown in episode 28 was just absolutely ridiculous and over the top. It felt like a hysterical soap opera and I did not enjoy it.

“One and Only” was a masterpiece and I loved every second of it, but I dislike “Forever and Ever” with the same intensity I would use to describe its prequel. Had I watched F&E on its own, I would have never understood why the characters like each other and why they feel any kind of attraction to one another. I loved the male lead in O&O, but here?? He was so painfully ALOOF, it made me mad sometimes. At first, I liked how awkward he was, but after a while I was so annoyed. Shi Yi is probably the only person on earth to have this much patience and to love the man – no one else would want to put up with someone this … dense (sometimes). The characters were also so… prudish for their ages. Like, you already slept with each other, but then can’t sleep in the same bed or change clothes in front of each other? The male lead really stood in the rain while Shi Yi changed her shirt, as if he couldn’t have just turned around IN THE CAR. Like, that is just too much. Also, wtf was his deal with timing her night routine?? So weird, and to do it standing outside her apartment. That’s creepy, not romantic lol.

I also heavily disliked the script. I don’t think it did Bai Lu or Ren Jia Lun any favors – it rather led to me thinking that these two talented and capable actors were only delivering a sub-par performance. Interactions between characters felt wooden, stiff, awkward and uncomfortable. While O&O had a nice rhythm and flow, F&E felt weird and choppy. This series felt like… a series – in the sense that it just felt like I knew this was being filmed. It didn’t feel like I or the actors fully immersed themselves into it and became the characters (because this is what O&O felt like: I was fully immersed and believed everything I saw/it was convincing).

The family drama…. Bro, wtf was that. I felt like it was so much more dramatic, intricate (not the good kind) and hysterical than it could have EVER been in the prequel. Too many (old) people – I didn’t CARE, sorry.

I loved the cinematography, locations/sets, coloring, OST and styling for this show though. The leads also shared some really nice moments that made me hopeful, but … eh. Most of the time, I felt let-down. Overall, quite disappointing and not worthy of being O&O sequel.

BEST DRAMA IN CHINESE HISTORY

Highly recommend FOREVER AND EVER . It tells a love story between a shy professor and a initiative voice actress. Since their first sight of each other they were destined to be together. This drama includes actress BAI LU and actor ALLEN REN who’s chemistry together makes science interesting. Their love story is sweet yet spicy, impulsive yet patient, happy yet sad. Going through a roller coaster journey of joy and hardships, the couple strive for a normal and comfortable life. Competing between love and family, the two find comfort and happiness with another. FOREVER AND EVER is the continuing of ONE AND ONLY (recommend before watching FOREVER AND EVER ) and includes the long desired ending for the couple.
