Both feature a supernatural character who were tasked to tailor make clothes for someone in order to console people. In Black Knight, it was Sharon who needed to make clothes in order to redeem herself from her past sins. In Handmade Love, Wobeun needed to make clothes for humans so that he could finally be allowed to return to Heaven.
Tokita Mayuko is a fabric otaku who was also majored in textile technology in college. She and her friend Kouno Yuri moved to Tokyo and each of them finally found a job in Ginza. Mayuko's dream is to develop new kinds of fabric, but due to a misunderstanding, she ends up working in a handmade luxury lingerie atelier called Emotion. Her boss Nanjo Mayumi, an icon in the Japanese lingerie industry, deems her tacky and not beautiful enough for the company image, forcing her to change. Mayuko resists the change at first, however, she slowly starts to fall in love with her job and the brand.
Both shows are short, episodic dramas where magical realism meets real life. The stories are centered around a young woman, who finds herself lost and jaded by life, and who must learn not only how to navigate a (magical) world but also learn invaluable life lessons on the way. Over the span of a few episodes, we see how the main character is able to find her own confidence and purpose in her profession while helping others. Whereas these stories do not classify as romance dramas, they do not shy away from the theme either, and we are presented with just a tiny hint of romance at the end. Both shows are guaranteed to bring you to tears at least once, but they will most definitely also leave you warm and fuzzy because of their hopeful message. Only watch these if you're in for a positive feel-good plot.
