A Complicated And Heartbreaking Love Triangle For Me

I am so soooooo conflicted with this series. It's so beloved by people now at this point, and though I thoroughly enjoyed it of course it still has me left with some confusion. Imma say right off the bat I was totally 100% okay with Taekhyung ending up with either Daon or Shin Woo. This is probably a very dividing sentiment, so if you're not okay with that don't continue reading this review. Let's get into this!

Off the bat with this series I was thinking if Taekhyung wouldn't take the president Daon I would! He's so cute and kind. A very likable person. Probably too likable and it ends up being his demise in this series tbh. I already could tell too that Taekhyung would probably gonna end up with dude VP Shin Woo as soon as he had a falling out with in the hallway. The enemy to lovers trope is so strong in Kdramas. So I wasn't really surprised or on the edge of my seat wondering how the love triangle would turn out. Since I watch many of those dramas lol. I also should say I pieced together that Shin Woo had a traumatic experience with his sexuality in the past. Hence why he's so reserved and finds it difficult to express his feelings. I totally get that and started to like him more once that was apparent. We see his character go through some serious growth throughout this. Opening up to sweetie pie Taekhyung. Being more open in the relationship than Daon was. This was all good! However, a lot of fans of this series looked past Daon's growth too and it makes me so mad! So I'll express it in this because he deserved just as much of a chance to be with Taekhyung than Shin Woo did.

Daon needed more time to come to terms with himself. There's NOTHING wrong with that at all. To be honest it wasn't even that much time so Taekhyung was pretty impatient lol. Daon also has very strict parents, who might literally uproot his life if he expresses his sexuality or who he is. That's even more reason why he's such a internalized sad person. No wonder he wants constant validation from people around him. It's how he was raised and he had no real love growing up! That's trauma too ya'll and I wish more people watching saw that. This is not an easy situation at all and idk why people are acting like coming out is easy? Let alone in somewhere like Korea where its still conservative in parts. Eventually he gets to where he needs to be emotionally and by then its too late. Which sucks and I kinda hated seeing it. I honestly wish 100% he would've ended up with Namgoong. That would've been PERFECTttttt. He needs love and I'm sad that he didn't get that. At least they show him finally taking time for himself and being able to say no to people taking advantage of him. Thank the lord.

Moving on past that. I wanna say Namgoong became my favorite character. He's sweet, hilarious and indeed handsome. He also guides so many characters throughout this and I loved it. Though I hate that he was kinda stuck with So Hee, who didn't do enough in my opinion to get redemption for her attitude and sh** she did throughout the series. They aren't shown dating or anything (if they had I would've thrown my remote through the screen) but she's clearly after him now. Ugh girl disappear please. Some things I enjoyed though was how brightly coloured and shot this series was. Really nicely done. The music was fantastic, we love ACE!!! Though I took issue with some of the plot, overall its pretty solid. Definitely watch this! Hopefully we get more Kdrama BL's with full length series <3

BL Done Right

Ok. So lemme start by saying I absolutely loved this from the moment it started until the last frame. I am a person who can enjoy most BL I see and can find positives in all of them.
NO NEED TO LOOK FOR THEM here! It’s one long amazing and well done show. The acting is perfect, the story is believable and real. Characters seem like real people who would really react the way these characters do.
Throughout the journey I found myself laughing, smiling, crying, and even yelling at the screen too. But it was an amazing journey.
And this, this is how you should do a good BL. No side quests, no 7 couples competing for screen time. This is a simple story, with limited characters, done believably and done well.
Thank you Light On Me! I loved the ride. And I want more!

one of the most realistic dramas

I loved the drama even though at some point I really wanted to drop it because the love triangle was KILLING ME but the chemistry between the leads was so cute .. it also made me sad a bit where they showed how the school is homophobic towards them and judged them in fact that's the true face of the society nowadays..
I am so satisfied by this bl that I will watch it again

AND THHE ENDGAME OMGG NEVER DID I EVER EXPECT THAT SHINWOO IS GONNA BE THE END GAME OMG

got my heart in a twist for 16 episodes

this series was really well made, cute, fluffy, angsty (but not in a bad way) the love triangle drama is something i usually avoid but they really made it work this time so i have no complaints about it. although my heart was twisting and turning in my chest the whole time and you really couldn't tell who the main couple was going to end up being, which is nice but also so murderous to my heart.
superb casting, really the actors really fit with their characters both look and personality was so well matched and that's something i really enjoy cause it makes it feel so much more natural.
i do wish there was a bit more of a lovey dovey feeling, we got some in the end but there could have been a lil bit more gay in this series, not talking smut but u know those little moments that make all the Y-girls and boys squeel a bit.
half the time i felt like this could easily turn into a straight k-drama but luckily it didn't XD
Kang Yoo Seok (Shin Woo) is now on my top actors list cause holy fuck my feels for him in this role were beyond normal.

that's all i really have to say, if u haven't watched this yet and like the cute kind of BL i would 100% recommend u watch this because it really is a well made drama.

I expected more based on the reviews here but it was just okay to me

I ended up stopping at episode 11 so here's my review of it.

My main gripe is with the actor for Taekyung. He's stiff. I get that he's supposed to be awkward, but an example of someone who portrays that better and with more complexity is the guy who plays Shinwoo. Taekyung's delivery of words feels so robotic and emotionless whether he's happy or sad. His crying scene was just him covering his entire face and whimipering, so I couldn't read his expressions. And the end kiss scene was awkward because he just stood there being kissed. From the get go I don't bother to care who Taekyung ends up with because he isn't that likable and I don't get why two guys would even fall in love with him lol. I guess he's straightforward, but that's like the only personality trait he has. Also, to add to Taekyung's robotic personality, his face looks unnatural to me - too much makeup or plastic surgery with the super pointy nose and chin. I also hate the stereotype in BL that the "cute" guy has to be clumsy. In the first episode he dramatically trips on his feet and pokes Shinwoo's butt with a dildo, and later on he bumps his head on a door which somehow leaves a bad enough injury that the guys who like him worry over it over the next few episodes.

On the other hand, I LOVE Shinwoo's actor. He is excellent with his facial expressions. You can see his longing for Taekyung at times from his glances, and his awkwardness is endearing and likeable compared to Taekyung's. It makes me wish he was the lead actor instead cause he clearly has more skills. Can we stop casting idols/ex-idols as lead actors in a BL drama just because of their looks, and instead cast people who can act?

Minor spoiler up to first half of show.

I really wanted to like this show, since I haven't watched a Korean BL drama for a while.

It was cute in the beginning, I did giggle a bit. Then it went downhill. First of all, the character development feels so weak. I can tell the characters are opening up/changing attitudes but the way it is portrayed is so underwhelming. Shinwoo and Siwoon were the only characters I liked throughout the 7 EPs I watched. Other than that it seems like no one is actually feeling proper emotions.

You COULD call it more on the realistic side(Love triangle type of thing, messy emotions for different people), but it's gone wrong somewhere in the acting/script writing or directing. It just feels forced and uncomfortable half of the time. It doesn't make sense that a shy person who has never had friends suddenly starts arguing with a random they don't really know. Taekyungs actions just don't make sense for me. Daon was cute but he was so flat idk. Also the girl is so annoying for what?

I wouldn't watch this again, I couldn't feel anything for most of the characters and really was frustrated because nothing was happening. Dropped it unfortunately.

Gets a little boring near the end but I still love it overall

It is an ordinary school romance drama with a love triangle thing as one of the main conflicts. But, despite the mainstream plot they have, I think this drama is so WELL-MADE. I'd say it's the first Korean proper-BL-drama in history. From how clear and high quality the cinematography is, how the story goes without feeling rushed at all and ended up having 16 ep (that was long), and the soundtrack...they collab with A.C.E, I repeat THEY COLLAB WITH A.C.E!! Everyone knows how big A.C.E is right now and how good the soundtrack is (the title is SPARK by A.C.E). Anyway, as I've mentioned in my headline it doesn't feel rushed at all but otherwise, it gets boring near the end because of their slow-solved-problem method when it's completely predictable.

About the acting skills, none of them I consider as bad. No one. They are all good actors but Kang Yoo Seok and Go Woo Jin are above the other casts in terms of acting skills. I mean there were times when I found their acting was A BIT awkward, just A BIT but visible (not really disturbing, tho).

Overall, I LOVE IT! I know I said it gets boring near the end but as soon as it ends I already miss them and want to rewatch it.

*For your information, if a drama makes you miss them already as soon as it ends that means that drama is GOOD.*

One of the Best BL ever!!!

Oh my!!! After watching Episode 16, I just can’t contain my happiness!!! The ending was so good!

The series itself was a masterpiece! Who would have thought that the story is not ordinary! I was so affected by the series! The story was amazing! The script, music, cast were perfect!!! I really love it!!!

The cast were really good! Shin Woo’s eyes really conveyed emotions! Every characters has their own development and they have grown to a better person.

The cliffhangers on every episode made me thinking every week! At the end of episode 15, I still don’t know who will Tae end up with! The writers and director are amazing! Great job guys!!!

Amazing MC & Cute BL

I love this show so far there’s a lot of good things about it!
1. I think the acting is really good for a web drama
2. The MC in my opinion is super cute
3. I have autism ADHD depression and anxiety and this show was very interesting to me cause he seems like he has a big of disability in him and I haven’t seen that in a lot of dramas.
4. I love both the love Interests
5. We don’t know exactly who he’ll end up with in this entertaining story.

I really enjoyed this plot and characters I think you guys will too! Hope my review helped!

Foundation for more BL Kdramas in the future

In the past, we were drawn to Korean dramas with usual troupes and storylines. From He’s Beautiful, Flower Boy Next Door, Coffee Prince, Boys over Flowers, and Princess Hours, it contained the schematic plot formulas - enemies to lovers, princely male leads and cliche romantic storylines that garnered huge attention from the viewers. These were the materials used as baseline to recognize the techniques of the industry.

The rise of Korean dramas led to more creative outputs that will surely accumulate more viewers like Descendants of the Sun, Law School, Sweet Home, It’s okay not to be okay, and Hotel Luna that were more substantial in terms of plots and characterization. I think Light on Me is a drama that could establish the same baseline for BL Korean dramas to be prominent. It has the same schematic formulas we usually see in Korean dramas - a male lead, a second male lead and a tactless main character who we all want to be happy.

In my opinion, it is a drama that anyone could enjoy even if they don’t usually watch BL dramas as long as they are a fan of typical Korean writing. The plot is really light and mellow that I personally would love to just watch the released episodes again to make my heart melt. As of the moment, I would love to reach the end to see who will our dear Tae kyung end up with, which obviously is really good because I saw a lot of viewers riding on different ships, which means they are hooked.

I read different theories but if I would solely based my opinion by only watching the drama, I don’t know who the main character will end up with because the drama gives you the thrill of making both the male leads the possible end game. I want to share that I am on Team Daon. I was first Team Shinwoo but the latest episodes made me jump on the other ship. If you are looking for a drama that would make you confuse on who to cheer on, then this drama is for you.

Overall, I hope to see more BL Korean dramas dwell on different plot lines but for now, I am satisfied with the cliche romantic storylines because I know it will only get better at this point.

First Sight Review

The title itself sounds amusing and interesting, that's no doubt. if you are interested in a storyline where the plot involving the leads go from hate to love relationship them this would be a must. Korea doesn't give us much BL'S with long duration but this is worth it as every episode maximizes to twenty minutes and not to forget that it has 16 episodes. first episode was mazing as i thought. it also gives insight to the sex education that does not show up in Korean dramas. the cast's acting is fantastic. The swoon worthy moments this will build up to will be amazing to watch as the episodes progresses. the bickering between the leads is a must laugh moments.

I like this BL Series Light on Me because the acting of the actors are very good and Tae Gyeong is hanging out with Shin Woo and I hope that both of them will be happy to the end of this series and I'll recommend this to my friends who's watching BL series either Thailand or Korean. I hope that they would have season 2 or at least a movie. And I hope that Shin Da On forgive Lee So Hee for what she did and she did that because she's jealous to Woo Tae Gyeong because of being close to Shin Da On. And I hope all the cast of Light On Me will have a happy ending.
