Great start, okay end

I wanted to watch this because I'm trying to watch all of Dew's works otherwise, I never would've checked it as I've never heard of it before. I thoroughly enjoyed this show a lot. I thought the concept was pretty cool, the characters were all really interesting, and the acting was pretty good as well. I did recognize quite a few actors from this which is always fun.

I will say the last few episodes or so, I didn't like as much as I liked the rest of the season. Once half the students were missing, I think it lost a bit of what made the show good which was the students' interactions. It wasn't bad or anything, I just didn't love it like I did before that happened. I also thought having Zero show up at the end was kind of stupid, maybe they thought they were getting another season though.

I thought the lessons they were being taught to help them prepare for the real world was really cool. Some were better than others, some were just cruel, but still I liked that aspect a lot. Obviously, I didn't like them being punished, but it added something interesting to the show. I really liked the show a lot and would recommend it a lot, especially if you like any of the actors.

Characters: (Spelling I'm going off of what they have on here lol)

Maki: I really liked Maki as the main character. She was so smart, kind, and determined. She wasn't afraid to stand up against the master's for what she thought was right either which I loved. I liked her relationship with our core four group a lot (plus Pheng and Penneung) and her relationship with her brother was really sweet too. Her and Tibet were quite cute together too even though we never got anything of them being a couple.

Tibet: I loved him! I love how caring he was towards everyone. He's also pretty smart and I liked how he was more of a realistic thinker. I think the group really needed that sometimes. I loved our core four as well as his relationship with Pheng and Penneung. He literally saved Pheng's life. I feel bad about his mother dying while he was gone. I'm glad he got to know a bit about his dad too during the show. His crush on Maki was so cute!! I enjoyed his relationship with Nai the most I can't lie. They were always together and it was so adorable.

Nai: The whole reason I watched the show to begin with and I'm glad I really liked his character. Nai was definitely not the smartest, especially out of our core group, but I loved how caring he was as well as him being ready to fight for his friends even if it meant him getting in trouble. Got to give him major props for lasting as long as he did in the fight against Master Champ, he really stuck it out. Again, loved his relationship with the core group and especially Tibet (They would be cute together too but maybe that's just me). His crush on White was so cute, and I love that you can tell he fell quite hard for her. The confession of the two of them on the stairs at the end was really fun.

White: I loved her so much! Her random English was really funny, she was such a baddie and so caring too. She really was ready to do anything for the people she cared about and I loved that. I haven't mentioned it yet, but I loved her friendship with Maki. They had such a good bestie relationship, and I feel like you don't always see that with girls, I feel like it's always just focused on romantic relationships. I love the core group as well as her relationship with Nai, like I mentioned before. Other than Pheng, I think she had the closest relationship with Penneung and liked their interactions a lot.

Penneung: My baby!! He might be my favorite I'm not going to lie. He is so intelligent and so caring. His love for croissants was so adorable! His actor did a great job with his character; I have to give major props there. I think it's really cute that he had a crush on Pheng at the end (I think she felt the same too). I was really happy when he joined our main group because I loved his character a lot. I hated seeing him get picked on some of the people in the beginning and I'm glad by the end they all were friendly towards him. We saw the most growth in relationships with him I feel.

Pheng: I'm not going to lie I didn't care for Pheng too much. She did get a bit better at the end, but she was just too whiny for me. Most of the time she was on screen she was whining about something, it was so annoying. Her whole episode where it revealed she does a lot of stuff for attention didn't surprise me at all; she just gave that vibe anyway. After she almost committed, she did get better a little bit. I liked her relationship with Biu and especially with Penneung.

Hugo: He was quite the asshole throughout a lot of the show, but I will say his love for Jingjai was really sweet. I love that he always called her beauty, that was so cute. The scene of the two of them by the water towards the end of the show really showed a different side of them both that I really liked.

Jingjai: Similar to Hugo, I didn't like her throughout most of the show and then after the lake scene, I'd say I found them tolerable. I loved everything she said during her classes with just a couple of the girls and Headmaster. I loved that.

Fuji: There were times I liked Fuji and times I didn't. I liked how badass and strong she was, but there were times I really questioned what she was thinking. For the most part I did like her though. I thought she would be more important, but she really got hardly any screentime in the second half of the show (and I don't just mean when she was taken).

Mek: & Mok: Putting them in the same one because I have the hardest time these twins apart. I've seen them individually in a bunch of things and could never tell which was which until I'd look it up and having them both in the same series made it impossible for me. Once I noticed how they were dressing differently, I could tell who who was. I liked how similar but different they were. They were quite unimportant to the show to be honest. They could've not existed and I think the show would've been pretty much the same in my opinion. I did like them both though. I was glad they were starting to fix their relationship by the end because the physical fight between them was so rough. They added some humor to the show too which I liked.

Biu: I really liked her! She was really fun and caring. I thought her crush on Jean at the end was sweet. Her friendship with Pheng was really cute too. I get why she was mad at Pheng for a bit, I would be too, but I was happy they made up.

Jean: Man was actually the least important character. I liked him with Biu, he did have a good friendship with Jingjai and Hugo, but once they dated, he wasn't with them a lot anymore. The second half of the show I didn't have a problem with him, he just didn't add anything at all. He was definitely more likable though towards the end since he was a bully in the beginning.

Run: I loved seeing Gun. His character Run was pretty cool. I have mixed feelings on him saying Amin felt like a father and him taking over Home School. I feel like they should've shown us more flashbacks of the two of them bonding in the past to show how hurt Run was by Amin locking him up. I would've loved to see more of him and Maki together as well since it was the whole reason Maki went to Home School to begin with.

Amin: I knew there had to be something going on with him because a lot of times what he was doing, even if it was a bit messed up, it never to me felt like he had really bad intensions so I was glad to see that he was a lot better and was actually just being controlled.

Yani/Headmaster: Kind of like Amin, I from the start just thought she had good intensions and truly cared for the kids. We even saw that with how she would question Amin a bit with the treatment of Run. I really loved her classes with just the couple girls, it made me like her a lot more than I already did.

Prasat: I hated this guy from the second he showed up and wasn't shocked at all that he was doing shady stuff. Him and Champ just seemed to not care at all about the kids in anyway, especially compared to the other masters. Bad vibes all around and am very happy he ended up in jail.

Phraephon: I think she was my favorite out of the masters. You could always tell she truly cared for the kids and for Run. I loved finding out she was helping Run plan his escape the entire time. I liked that she was trying to help Deluxe as well. I was pretty sad she died, she didn't deserve that.

Phoban: I liked him a lot. He always seemed to be looking out for the kids and seemed like a genuinely good guy. He was just adorable to me for some reason.

Champ: I hated him from start to finish. Like I mentioned before, you can tell he just didn't care about the kids at all. I wasn't shocked by him siding with Prasat either.

Deluxe: She was so cute!! I loved her just singing her little songs all the time (even if it wasn't the right time for it lol). She was really caring too and I loved how her class with Phen and Pennueng was just playing guitar and singing.

Every parent was a piece of shit lol except Tibet's mom and Biu's dad was eh.

Master Prasat has similar vibes to "The Joker" against Batman in The Dark Knight movie whereas Tibet refuses to kill Master Prasat as "Batman" in Episode 17. The writing overall was really messy because of how many characters there were to keep track of, so many plotholes started up to appear. The acting was really good overall though because I can feel the fear the students has and the punishments they were given. I even started to hate their characters because of their acting. Although the writing is messy, it had good themes to portray trauma and how to deal with it.

Interesting, thrilling, deals with a topic we rarely see in dramas

Home School turned out to be quite different then what I thought it would be. It dealt with a topic that we rarely see in entertainment market, that is dealing with bad parents. This drama showed the abusive behavior most parents shows to their kid in a very raw manner, without fabricating it. They really showed the parents in a bad light till the end and didn't round it off with the parents accepting their kids and being good because let's be honest that doesn't happen. Someone who is abusive will remain abusive [coming from someone who ahs face abusive parents for year]. So I am glad at least somewhere I felt heard. I loved how they showed the meaning of friendship. Those kids who didn't have good parents gained good friends through Home School. The back story of Master Amin was really interesting and so was the back story of Maki and Run. I like show all the kids got to have scenes to show their back stories. It helped showing the different types of abusive parents are there. They dealt with social problems, female empowerment and many more things in one series. However I was quite disappointed with the turn of the story towards the end. It could have been a bit more interesting. Nonethless I enjoyed it. Also I love WHiteNai so much!!

Home School: A prison disguised as a boarding house or a safe haven?

Thirteen students with troubled upbringing who were essentially abandoned get selected as the new generation & enrolled in a “mysterious” boarding school to continue their studies for the next three years. What seems like your typical prestige school for well off kids to further their education & future, hides many secrets within. With its strict rules, eerie teachers, and isolated location, the students must put their differences aside and work together to unravel the truth of a missing student as well as the school’s origins & true intentions.

With each new episode, we learn a little more about each student, their upbringings, their traumas, etc. “Unique & peculiar” in its curriculum is definitely an understatement. In the beginning I couldn’t tell whether or not the Masters were secretively clever or just outright insane, and maybe they were both but IT WORKED!! The lessons and teachings were far from the typical “norm”, and instead consisted of games that dabbled in physical and psychological aspect. It focused more on morals & values. To be better people in society, because without "good people" they cannot achieve a good society. Instead of punishing the bad kids or the ones who did wrong "which kinda annoyed me in the beginning lol” they punished the ones who were good, punctual, obedient etc…
And it made sense because life & society is not fair...bad guys get away...and in order to create fairness in society people have to expose the truth and find the truth if they deem suspicion. Make them grow, reflect, and heal as individuals. See the world for what it is to make changes but don't look at it so negatively with hatred, otherwise nothing will change and will only create monsters of destruction. In theory Home School was sought to be a safe haven for students who had no one to depend on, however its good intentions were shrouded with hatred that everything ended up becoming twisted causing more harm to the students.

One thing I wish this series did focus on though, is more background on the teachers/masters. I felt like they were soo essential to the students experience within the boarding house, they explained some but not all. It wouldve been more interesting to see how they got recruited, what they went through to want to be apart of Home School etc etc and even some more details on the previous generations. BUT all in all, with all its flaws I was without a doubt pretty engrossed in this show, and with that bonus ending, Im really manifesting for a S2…and i dont like multiple scenes but I kinda want more!!

my little pony dark academia

An....Effort

Honestly I don't know what went wrong with this. the premise was good, the plot could've been executed very well but it just wasn't. Let's talk about the positives first.

The Acting. As usual, Gun is amazing. All the other actors did really well too which includes Film, Nani, Jane and Dew, kudos to the actor who played Prasath, guy was so creepy he gave me chills every time he was on screen. Chimon played Pennhueng exceptionally well that i wanted to protect him as well, Love also played a pathological liar very well. Amazing acting.

Now i think that was the only best part of the series. While i must say the series maintained it's suspense element, but there were so many things that ruined it.
For once, why was no other Gen 4 student shown, like ever? Why did the series start with Run running away and getting caught, but no idea what actually made him take the final step of running away? (or maybe i missed it, but I'm sure i didn't.)
Next, Jingjai and Hugo were shown leaving for another city when they went back home, why didn't they leave? actually how was even the police involved with the Home School administration to bring them back when they first tried running away?
Another question is, how does hypnosis even work? At one point we're shown Master Amin is hypnotized to the point his views change, and the students also get hypnotized that they turn into potential killers. but then we see that students like Jingjai stop themselves moments before killing them, without any intervention like Fuji and Biw had. I get that "love" made others stop, but even then they had to be reminded of it, why did Jingjai stop? So many questions which never get answered.

Now we come to the characterization.I think Dew and Nani were not seperate characters of their own and I'll stand by this. They were very superficial, only existing for the female leads (which i saw for the very first time, usually it's the other way around, #.malesinfemaledominatedfields lol). Even Maki didn't feel...real till her backstory was revealed, which still didn't help much. the only characters i could comnect with was Love and Chimon's, who actually showed development and felt like real characters. even jingjai and fuji had better development than dew's and nani's character.

This could've been a power show if it wasn't for the plotholes and odd characterization, with a great cast(which i didn't understand the reason of half of it disappearing in the second half). Maybe even reducing the number of episodes would've helped, made it bit more coherent.
Wish to see better stories with similar vibes with these actors again, they deserve the chance. Just will regret the lost potential of this series.

Be patient with this one

It is easy to give up on Home School halfway through. After all, we may not really care much about most of the characters at the start. The teachers at Home School are either cold or creepy (often both, actually). And the students can be pretty unlikable too. But I guess the creators took a bit of a gamble here. The characters do become more interesting and likable apart from the one who turns out to be the main villain of the series.

It is unfortunately very easy to be frustrated with the series if you start off with the assumption that Home School and its teachers are part of an unrevealed dark conspiracy. This is because of the ambivalent way in which they are portrayed. They seem every bit like the bad guys who have tricked parents into enrolling their children in a school that ends up abusing the children and cut off the children's contact with the outside world. However, some of the "lessons" the teachers try to teach seem to have values even though the teaching methods are highly unconventional and manipulative to say the least. There were times when I was left incredulous, thinking that the writers have made the teachers laughable villains. At times, the teachers seem to place emphasis on conventionally good things like love and trust for one another; at other times, they seem to be cruelly teaching the students about the ugliness of the world. The ambivalence in the portrayal of the school does, however, have a purpose. There are early hints about this and it becomes increasingly clear to us--the school has not always been what we think it is like.

To be honest, the ethicality of the tactics employed by Home School to educate the young people remain questionable all the way even though a twist in the story makes us focus more on the main villain or the mastermind behind the villainy. Regardless of what Home School aims to do, I can imagine how emotionally scarring it can be for a young person to go through the school, especially for someone like Pennhung who appears to be a character with unspecified special needs. This is one of the weaknesses of the story, making the plot twists less convincing than they could have been.

At times, I also wished that the writers had written in more interesting lessons. Some of them are just too predictable. Take for example the game in which the students are made to play a musical-chairs game. They are told to find a place to sit down before the music stops--the number of chairs keep decreasing, but those who fail to find a place to sit down will be punished. Of course, it turns out that the students did not have to sit on a chair. They could literally sit anywhere. In another game, they students are made to play a game in which they have to identify the lizard, who can order anyone of them around. Of course none of the students turns out to be the lizard. The atmosphere would be different if there had been more interesting "lessons" written into the script.

Despite the flaws of the series, there is enough in the series to keep me watching. The strong performance by many of the actors and the good story pacing contribute to making the series more watchable. There are holes here, but the story is quite good

New mystery concept of a school

Everything I see in the beginning just left lots of questions in my head, making me curious about what happened. The school is so mysterious, even those students were brought to it without knowing any clues about the direction. The weird curriculum also made me surprised. I love some personalities from the students (especially Pennhung he is so soft wth)
I see metaphor of bad treatments from parents to their children. All of the Home School students have their own scars that come from the same source ; family. And the mystery between the masters made the story more thrilling, and also the weird exams. And the ending??? Is there s2 for this? Because there are still a lot of things that left question marks.

Annoying

All the character are not likeable at all and even if they are it only some scene. They are spoiled, selfish, and get angry over the dumbest stuff. First of all if they were served bad food they complained. If they were served good food they complained. If they were served nothing they complained. All they do is complained. Complained. Complained. And complained.

Furthermore, the drama centers around building friendships. However, given how much the characters dislike one another and how easily they get on each other's nerves, it's hard to believe that they will ever form any meaningful connections.

Overall, this drama left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. While it may appeal to some viewers, I found it difficult to enjoy due to the unlikable characters and the lack of meaningful relationships.

Wow

Don't know how I missed this show, but it was excellent! The acting was good, though the less experienced were just a shade more awkward in some situations. The story line was good and for the first several episodes really keeps you guessing at what is going on. It is yet another example of Gun's versatile acting skills and I loved it!

Home School only lacks an official soundtrack

The story is very good and the actors chosen play their characters well, each has their own story about their family, but it is still presented neatly. The shooting and lighting effects are also very good, especially as there are many night scenes in the story.
Overall I enjoyed the story. Especially when the real antagonist starts to appear, it's very tense. It's a shame there's no official soundtrack. Even though the soundtrack will really add to the emotion of the story being shown, especially if there are sad scenes.
