worth watching!!

Such a good movie to watch! MSD is a really good enemy to lovers movie, I’m so impressed! A lot of Korean BL films and shows have come out this year, and MSD is one is easily one of the better ones that came out :)
Story: an interesting plot for sure, i personally liked it and it kept drawing me in. basically, the main character, chef yoon, works at this place called laura’s restaurant (or something like that) as the head chef. his job is threatened by chef choi, and get off on the wrong foot. they slowly but surely fall for each other after seeing each other out of the kitchen.
acting/cast: the acting moved me, it’s always the way the leads look in each other’s eye that i determine if they’re acting is actually good. let’s just say these two had me in a chokehold :) the cast was really good looking and made me forget they were actually acting!
music: good soundtrack!! but the one song that girl sang in english whenever anything romantic happened was B A D ?
rewatch value: i’d actually rewatch this because it was that good and easy on my heart hahah..
overall: watch it!! it’s a good bl romance movie <33

Sweetly Simple

I placed spoilers at the end of this review.

Edited on 9/8/2024: This is an updated version of my original review to match my current writing style for BL series that were edited into a movie version.

If you need something to left-up your mood after watch an overly serious/dramatical series, this movie/series is for you.

The series/movie: This was a very cute series. It has a simple, but good storyline. However, the script does have many weak elements to it. The cast did a great job portraying their characters and the cinematography was beautiful. I really enjoyed the songs that were used and felt the music really helped set the mood the scene it was used in.

The movie: They did a great job editing the episodes into one cohesive movie. They only added one random scene in the movie which did not add anything to the storyline. I think it was done to add more minutes to the movie. The only negative aspect is they cut out the behind the scenes and bloopers shown at the end of episode 8.

Random Notes:
I recommend watching the movie version because the editing made the storyline flow much better. However, you will be fine watching the series version too. If you do watch the movie, don’t forget to watch the end of episode 8 for the behind the scenes and bloopers.

******Potential Spoiler Alert******

The time span for Yoon Do Gun and Choi Jung Woo’s relationship development was too fast. They should have swapped the time span of the competition (1 month) and the time they were apart (3 months) around.

The ending had a very quick conflict resolution and felt a little rushed.

It was very weird how everyone forgave each other very quickly.

cute if a bit simple

throughout the entire movie I kept feeling like something was missing? even through the pacing was pretty decent for a k BL, and I realized it's because the story felt a little.....thin? It's fine the way it is but I also kept feeling like there should've been more, idk it's odd to try to explain in a way that differs from other k BLs that may have similar story-related issues

even if the story felt too thin to hold up the series/movie, the characters are cute. the most important thing to me for k BLs is relationship development, and it was VERY cute to watch how the tsundere chef started to soften up, which naturally lead to the moment where you can see how guilty that made the flirty chef feel lmao

(I"m very bad with names sorry lol, but I trust that you'll know exactly who I'm talking about.)

This is so short, it was possible to watch it to the end, without getting tto annoyed.

What I liked:
* Jang Eui Soo's (Chef Choi) acting. He did what he could with his script.
* The waiter and the sous chef were not just there but had their own characteristics, at least as much as they could within the short time.

What I did not like:
* Almost everything else. Examples:
* Empty scenery: Empty restaurant, empty beach, empty luna park... Where are the people?
* Overexposure does not make scenes romantic if there are no feelings. Same with montage + music.
* I think the main problem is that the script was faster than my emotions while watching. We have the rivalry / antagonistic beaviour in the beginning, that's okay. But when chef Choi acts like an arse during the first meeting and is shown to be the one who will maybe end Chef Yoon's employment, we, as the audience, need something to empathize with Chef Choi. We did not actually get it. I still don't know why Chef Yoon would fall in love with him.
* I have no idea why Laura (the restaurant's owner) wants to get rid of Chef Yoon. She says she wants to expand (he doesn't) but he's the one whose dishes people like?
* There's not enough restaurant and kitchen scenes -- show us how they work together, how they get closer doing their work.
* If the restaurant's so busy that Laura wants to expand, why are there no customers, why do the two main leads have enough time to hang around beaches and amusement parks and so on?

Both the world building and the relationship building is severely lacking in this movie. If I can empathize with the waiter and the sous chef more than with the couple, then something is very, very wrong.
It wasn't bad enough to stop me watching, but there wasn't anything to like it either.

Not recommended.

sweet but forgettable

It's a good sweet movie. There are no sudden twists or love triangles and major issues get resolved quickly. The movie is pretty PG so if you want something even remotely sexy or sensual, this isn't the show for you but the main lead are very sweet together and they have great chemistry. The actors are very attractive and I love the interaction between the leads and the supporting characters. I also liked the fact that the problems that the characters faced had nothing to do with their sexuality but rather their own problems. I also appreciated that this BL had characters out of high school and college. I also appreciated that while the female character was the antagonist in the movie she wasn't evil and her arc had nothing to do with trying to date one of the leads, unlike most BLs.
I don't think it's worth a re-watch though if you've seen it once you aren't gaining anything by going back.
