What a thrilling, underrated, great and action packed movie!
I loved this movie, the story is well known but this one has a different approach and is quite unique if you ask me. I was hooked within the first minute the movie begand until the last minute. They made this so well. The characters were amazing, they all acted greatly and I loved the storyline.
It had twists, turns, action, shootings, blood but also a story. This is not a typical "lets kill everyone because yolo" no, this is more. They had me on edge, I even said "what the hell" out loud! They also knew how to move me in this movie even though not every character had a background story. They told just enough to feel with them.
The music fitted everyscene and I would rewatch this because I enjoyed this movie and I would recommend many more people to watch this.

Watch this movie if you like plot twists, action and thrilling scenes.
Don't skip this movie!

A Servicable, if not Below Average, Action Film

[Written/Watched Jan 04, 2021 for Letterboxd. Expanded 1/23/2021.]

I watched "The Target" thinking it was "The Suspect", only to happen across the aforementioned film when I looked at Gong Yoo's filmography. By that point, I was in the process of reaching the end of this film (on Tubi) and decided to finish it.

"The Target" falls somewhere in the vein of "The Man From Nowhere" and "A Special Lady", but its not quite as violent or gripping as either film.

The film's premise is definitely interesting. It invokes the same kinda tension as "Nick of Time" (starring Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken), where a man's daughter is kidnapped and he's forced to participate in an assassination plot to save her.

Problem is, one half of the film's protagonist (Tae-Joon, a doctor) ultimately becomes a reactionary party to the kidnapper's brother (Yeo-Hoon), who Liam Nesson's his way through the film as it devolves into a revenge plot once the kidnapper (Sung-Hoon) is killed. It's almost comical how many times the Tae-Joon avoids death. Like, his plot armor is strong.

(And, no, it shouldn't be ignored that the film does rely on a level of abelism to drive the plot. Specifically how the character with tourettes (Sung-Hoon) is killed to motivate the protagonist (transforming him into a tragic figure of pity), and is called the hard R slur immediately afterward by the doctor.)

"The Target" is a serviceable action film with moments of sentimentality that don't quite land. I get what the film was going for, given the comparisons I've made, but it just never invests enough in the characters to deliver.

(Also, why was there a mid-credits ending to tie-off the fate of the villain? Were they expecting to make a sequel?)

Most annoying action film I've ever watched

Let me start by saying I'm a sucker for these kinda movies. That being said the idea is nothing new but I don't care how many times a similar idea has been executed I'll still watch it and probably find it good.

BUT .... these have to be the most annoying characters (across the board) I've ever watched in an action movie. From the stupidest cops (which to be fair is kind of expected but then they are extremely rude and primitive without any apparent reason) to the lead that is so incompetent that it's beyond pitty and he basically turns into a piece of furniture not even third of the movie in. After suffering with all these annoying characters for the whole movie, the ending in completely bland and unsatisfactory and leaves you feeling angry and cheated.

All in all a big skip and a waste of time.
