What the hell happened to Aye?

I wanna start this review by saying that I enjoyed The Eclipse. The writing wasn't great (especially nearing the end), but I absolutely fell in love with the characters of Akk and Aye. First and Khaotung are - in my opinion - some of GMMTV's best actors. They have fantastic chemistry and I really enjoyed the progression of their love story. Which is why The Eclipse is very high on the list of my favorite BLs, despite the issues in writing. So I was eagerly awaiting the release of Our Skyy 2, just to see Akk and Aye back together. And what we got was... well... Not really the same Aye that I came to love in The Eclipse??

I'm still slightly confused as to what went wrong exactly. It feels like these two episodes were written by someone who thought Akk and Aye were cute together, but didn't understand the character of Aye at all. It feels like they watched The Eclipse and thought 'Well, Aye is a bit of a troublemaker who follows his own rules instead of what others tell him to do, so clearly that makes him a self-centered idiot!' And that was obviously not the point of his character at all! In Our Skyy 2, Ayan is portrayed as someone who only thinks about himself and doesn't really consider anyone else's feelings. So you're trying to tell me that Ayan, the guy who continuously made sure Akk was voicing his feelings and was there to listen to him all the time, the guy who wanted to meet Thua's mom, just so he could make sure Thua told her about his issues with his stepfather, the guy who was so concerned about other people not being able to be themselves and voice their opinions at their school... You're telling me that this Ayan is now supposed to be self-centered??? Just... how???

A glaring issue in that regard is obviously Aye pretending to have forgotten about Akk's birthday. I'm okay with the general idea of Aye planning to surprise Akk, and thus pretending not to remember his birthday. BUT I'm not okay with him pushing through with this plan, despite seeing that Akk is clearly feeling very sad and hurt about this. I feel like the Aye we got to know in The Eclipse would've given up on his surprise plan as soon as he saw that Akk was sincerely hurt. He wouldn't have kept going for weeks, knowing that Akk was suffering. So for me, that just completely ruined part of his character. The surprise idea is cute, but who would insist on doing it even after seeing their loved one suffer? It made no sense to me and felt like such a silly conflict. Also, the fact that Akk's friends supposedly knew about the plan all along was very stupid in my opinion. If my friend told me he was sad because his boyfriend was being self-centered to a point where he doesn't even remember that my birthday is coming up, and I was aware of the fact that his boyfriend was just planning on surprising him, I would go to said boyfriend and be like "Maybe reconsider your plan. Clearly, you're just upsetting him with this idea." But hey, maybe that's just me and most other people prioritise a surprise over someone's happiness. Aye could've still surprised Akk with the song, even if he hadn't pretended to have forgotten his birthday entirely.

But that's not even the worst part in my opinion. The worst part - by far - was their scene by the water, after playing the guitar. Akk was trying to tell Aye that he was feeling unhappy and unheard, and what does Aye do? He shuts him up by basically saying "Shhh, you know I can't resist you when you're angry" and the kisses him. Why oh why???? The Aye I know and love wouldn't just shut his boyfriend up! He would encourage him to talk about his feelings, like he always has done in The Eclipse. I already dislike the "You're cute when you're mad" trope in general, but particularly with Aye it just felt so wrong, going against the core of his character, which was partially wanting other people to stick up for themselves. Akk previously had such a hard time, voicing his feelings. Aye always encouraged him to do so. And you're telling me that now, as Akk is finally able to talk about his emotions, Aye is just going to shut him up?? Great.

Those are the main issues of these two episodes in my opinion. There were other issues too, such as Kan and Thua supposedly also having a conflict, but that never actually being shown in any way. But that was minute in comparison to the character annihilation of Ayan.

All that being said, I was still able to somewhat enjoy the episodes, because First and Khao still have amazing chemistry and the acting is still great. This is why the rating is still relatively high, despite my issues. So if you're a fan of those two, I'd still recommend watching. But I recommend you just watch it as a stand-alone piece, and not a continuation of The Eclipse. Maybe this is a ViceVersa cross-over, and we're in a different universe, where Ayan is a prick. Who knows, judging by how they're gonna turn My School President into a role-reversal thing, they don't shy away from doing very odd things in Our Skyy 2.

If your favorite character is Ayan, do not watch this

The scriptwriters of The Eclipse are consistent in their efforts to bend characters until they fit into clichéd tropes. They did it in the last four or five episodes of the series, and they are doing it here again.

In just two episodes, they managed to completely destroy Ayan's character, presenting him as extremely self-centered. What? Ayan, who spent all of The Eclipse trying to protect people from the curse, who understood Akk and did everything he could to help him, who supported Thua like a great friend, is self-centered? Give me a break.

Furthermore, Akk is now a person who cares too much about others. Really, scriptwriters? Akk, who almost killed his schoolmates to prove that he is a good student prefect and get a scholarship, cares too much about others? I think you are a little confused. Did you forget which one of your characters is Ayan and which one is Akk?

The destruction of the main characters aside, these two episodes were not bad. The great acting and FirstKhao's amazing chemistry made them an enjoyable watch. Khan, Thua, their friends, and Teacher Sani are all here to make fans of The Eclipse happy.

Our space is where we dare to be ourselves and feel comfortable with it

I was so excited about this one! The preview showed Akk and Aye giving us Brokeback Mountain vibes and I was living for it. The Eclipse was a series that tackled some serious issues, and while they used a book (1984 by George Orwell) as a reflection of things in the main series, they seem to be going for movies in Our Skyy 2.

I have mixed feelings about their hyperfocus on movies though. Filming the short movie didn’t really play a big role in the main series until the end, so I find it interesting that this is something they decided to focus on so much. I like how they used Brokeback Mountain as a teaching moment, with Akk and Aye discussing it. But the movie scenes we saw later were not my favorites. I didn’t really like the comedic ones for Akk & Aye and Kan & Thua. I did like what they did with the screen sizes though, it made a clear cut between fantasy and reality.

I do like what they did with Akk and Aye having problems. The two got together at an extremely turbulent time in their lives, so while the two got very deep and personal, there were things that they didn’t really get familiar with. The two are different, have always been, and that is both good and bad. I know people always say opposites attract (and they often do), but they never say how much compromising is required to make such relationship work. So, it being at least hinted at in the series, is something I really appreciate.

I absolutely love the friendship between Akk, Kan and Wat. The three are so supportive of each other. They might not be family by blood, but they are family by choice. The transition from high school to university is though, so seeing them talk about it fits in with he story very well.

Kan and Thua are adorable together. Thua was not my favorite character, but I really like seeing the cute moments between the two. To be honest, there were a ton of cute moments between Akk and Aye too. I really love how relaxed First and Khao are with one another, and that really shows through their interactions in the series as well.

The filming locations are beautiful. As is the special OST, I absolutely love it!

All I can say is that Akk and Aye (and First and Khao) have became our space a long time ago. A space that they (and many other series) created for us. Something I will be forever grateful for.

That's how you do it

A place is something you can buy and own but a space is somewhere that you are comfortable living in...they are each others space...the chemistry between firstkhao and neolouise is undeniable....each actor brought life to their characters and did justice to them....the friendship between the gang is so realistic....this babies fought hard for what they believe in...the diffrent personality in relationship....lack of family support cause they don't agree with you....and LOVE..this series represented love in a way that happens in our day to day....love between lovers...love between friends...and love between family...this babies will forever be my SPACE...
WHAT A WAY TO END THE ERA OF THE ECLIPSE.....am gonna miss them

Pretty & hot

Better than the series just because shorter and with less time wasted on PPLs and time fillers and incomprehensible plotlines. This was very cute.

The six boys go to countryside to finish filming Wat's short movie for the competition. The two couples are sort of on honeymoon. But Akk is unhappy since Aye seems to have forgotten his birthday. Yeah right! A surprise is planned and it is obvious to everyone except to the person concerned who thinks Aye does not love him anymore. So they argue and they bicker and they make up only to bicker some more and so on .
The running theme here is the cinema, starting with Brokeback Mountain reference and then reenacting scenes from famous Thai movies and probably others I missed. I love it when they do that in dramas (that id THE only thing I liked about Theory Of Love!).

First as Akk is amazing: his smile can light a thousands christmas trees. He is a talented actor and I hope he stops playing high schoolers because he was just amazing as adult in Midnight Chicken. But I am sorry to say, I still think Khaotung cannot act: he smirks, pouts, sneers and I find him rather creepy. He can sing. That's about it!

The whole plotline about the birthday surprise was to say the least cruel and thoughtless. Not cute. They are teens, just starting to date, not certain of each other feelings and wanting to be reassured and Akk has none of it coming from his boyfriend. Aye does speak nicely to him on occasion only to go back to being insensitive jerk. Akk is unhappy and has trouble hiding his disappointment. Eventually, Aye sort of apologizes saying that pranks is what he loves doing! I think there is time and place for that, not at the start of a relationship. Which in any case seems doomed since Aye is going to study abroad and Akk does not want to go with him.

The second couple Khan & Thua are also plagued by problems because Khan is too attentive so much so that Thua finds it suffocating. So we have two extreme examples of couples: Khan is paying too much attention while Aye not enough. These problems, make Wat the director realize, were two sides of the same coin and uses it to finish his movie which allows boys to finally talk to each other.
Wat's love life is left in the limbo since he is seriously crushing on his teacher. It would be interesting to see them together a few years down the line (like after he graduates from university?).

The cinematography is stunning: it looks a lot like a number of WayuFilm short movies (Country Boy). The colours are warm and everything has such a calming effect: the water, the mist, the forest, the hills.....Sometimes it looks like it was made by two different directors: when some actors are in frame, the mood shifts from dreamy to whatever, somehow their timing seems off and it is not complementary to the scenery or the whole mood.

In spite of all the flaws I found, this was way better than the series: it was fluffy, steamy and pretty. Almost perfect.

My Space is Here

The Eclipse is one of my favorite BL dramas and I was really looking forward to these two episodes. I found what they did with these two episodes really interesting and creative and even though it wasn't a hit with every scene, the characters are what really made these two extra episodes special. It was the characters that I fell in love with in the drama and they are what made me really enjoy this continuation of their stories.

Of the episodes that have aired thus far, I felt these two had the best combination of story and fluff. There's a good balance of both. Unlike with Never Let Me Go, the story is a continuation that fits with the original drama and unlike Star in My Mind, it's more than pure fluff. I thought going with a continuation of Wat's moviemaking was a unique choice since it played a relatively minor role in the original, but a good one. The scenes with the characters imagining themselves in various movies was incredibly cheesy, but also rather entertaining. It does feel a bit rushed at times, but with just two episodes, they didn't have a ton of time to fully flesh out the story and it's still good as is.

I did like that there was a clear progression in the character's growth. They were not exactly the same as they were in the original which makes sense since time has obviously passed and that was refreshing since a lot of times specials or subsequent seasons pick up acting like no time has passed when in fact it's been years. I liked that Akk and Aye were shown as having to actually work at their relationship. It showcased that relationships are something that require effort and aren't something you can just neglect. With everything that happened in the original, they didn't really have a chance to get to know one another on a more personal level. They were always a study in opposites, but with the drama behind them, that comes to the fore, and they need to learn to communicate and compromise. I do wish there was a little more of a focus on them learning to communicate. Akk keeps things bottled up and there's no way for Aye to learn from or try to rectify the problem, when he's being tight lipped. Kisses are great, but they don't solve the problem. On the flip side, I liked that Thua did communicate his feelings to Kan. There was still the element there that kisses solve problems, but I felt it was a better progression than with Akk and Aye.

I love the friendships here, especially between Akk, Wat, and Kan. The way they support each other is just so wholesome and I really love that even though Akk and Kan aren't into the indie movies that Wat is, they are still willing to encourage and support him in his dream.

The acting is, of course, fantastic. This is such a great cast and they all play off of and interact with each other so well. First and Khaotung have such a level of authenticity and I think that just comes from the fact that they've known each other for years and are comfortable with each other. That can be good or bad as sometimes actors who have known each other for an extensive period time seem to struggle with bringing romantic chemistry to the screen. That is not an issue with these two though. There's an almost perfect blend of romance and friendship between them that just works. They have such warmth and I adore how they've brought these characters to life. Neo and Louis are also very talented and I really enjoyed their portrayals of Kan and Thua. They did a good job showing how their relationship has developed since the original drama and their chemistry together is equally good. They're more subtle than First and Khao in how their relationship is shown, less demonstrative, but there's a lot communicated between them simply by eye contact and body language. AJ, Pawin, and Ploy all brought their A game as well.

I cannot even begin to express how much I love the song Akk and Aye sing. It is perfect and I am anxiously waiting for it to appear on streaming so I can listen to it on repeat.

My biggest qualm, honestly, was Aye pretending not to remember it was Akk's birthday. I know he was trying to surprise him, but every time I see that come up in dramas, I can't help but think it's just a recipe for drama as it nearly always leads to issues. If you want to surprise someone, then find another way to do it. Don't do something that can hurt the person you care about and potentially damage the relationship.

I really enjoyed this special. Some of the lines from it just really hit home, like when Aye talks about the difference between "place" and "space". I think its safe to say that The Eclipse and many of these other dramas became a space for a lot of us where we feel warmth and love and I think that is just beautiful. This was a wonderful addition to The Eclipse story that you don't want to miss.

enjoyable

It's so beautiful. I agree that their fight was childish, but they are so young after all. I mentioned in my The Eclipse review that something was missing but maybe the Our Skyy will make that ending. And yes, I was right. It's adorable seeing them growing up in their relationship. It was a little, just a little, bitter, but life is like this. Makes sense.

When I finished The Eclipse, I really missed seeing more about their relationship, and this special delivered me what I want: Seeing them as a couple, for real, without the Suppalo's problems, just them. They have a healthy but obviously teen relationship, and that is beautiful.

And the OST is very cute. I will miss them a lot.

My review for each section of this series is based on the following criteria:
- Did it add anything to the original series
- Was there either an absence, advance, or regression of character/couple development
- Was the story concept interesting
- Script quality

I placed spoilers at the end of this review.

This is the first section that showed a decent amount of character/couple development. It was great to see a continuation with many of the storylines from the main series. I like the overall theme, but the script was a little messy. I also found Episode 1 slightly weird. See the spoiler alert at the end of this review if you want more information. Just like the main series, the actors did an excellent job portraying their characters. The background music choices were great and it had good cinematograph.

Random Note: I thought it was cool to see Pawin in the first 3 sections of Our Skyy 2.

******Spoiler Alert******

I found the imaginary movie scenes out of place and was wasted screentime.

I liked the acknowledgment about some of the troubles involving a new relationship. However, I had a hard time believing that Akk and Ayan were having relationship troubles because of the inconsistent writing with this storyline.

Ayan is not here

my favorite character is ayan and i have to say, the writers did not know the character. it feels like this is just a special of khaotung (as in another story) and not “The eclipse” cause the character ayan is nowhere to be found. AYAN IS A COMMUNICATOR A STRAGHTFOWARD CHARACTER THAT LOVES CONFRONTING EVERYTHING EVEN OR SPECIALLY WHEN DIFFICULT, he is one of the best characters he has morals and his own code the BEST and in this one: he is deceiving in the worst ways.

Also as a stand alone; lacks in story.

Let's continue the story... Hope it get better...

It is get better. At least the story not so messed up like the original / long drama itself.

The story like MDL summary wrote: "Before entering university, Akk and Ayan take a trip with friends to shoot Wasuwat's short film." Wasuwat want to put his movie into competition, but one senior suggest that he add something more to the film. So Wasuwat gather his friends again to shoot additional film.

The event line up with the time Akk & Ayan have a little fight about their personality. Akk feel Ayan just too focus on himself, while Ayan feel Akk too much care about everyone else, even above Akk himself. And turn out Thua & Khan also have similar problem with Akk & Ayan. So yeah they make the problem into story board again for Wasuwat's film. But they divided the team into 2 group; Akk & Khan, Ayan & Thua, each make their story into script & Wasuwat will decided which they'll use....

While writing the script the duo (Akk & Khan, Ayan & Thua) each sharing their experience with their partner & having time off from their partner to cooling their head down & of course finally still decided the little bickering can't break them apart. They can't even stay away from each other long enough... Haha....

Overall I really happy to watch this special episode/series. Much better that the drama itself... But still think Khan & Thua not fit for each other. Maybe the actor themselves that not really having good relationship with each other...

Very enjoyable

First off, it’s been a while since I finished The Eclipse so it took me a minute to remember all the references. First/Khao are just so cute together. I really felt a connection to First and his feelings. I’m a doer as well and it sometimes hurts when actions are not reciprocated. I love that it had just the right amount of story with tender scenes mixed in. I felt so comfortable watching First and Khao together. There was no awkwardness at all between them. Louis and Neo were very sweet too. And, by the way, when did Neo get so handsome and ripped? Wow. The rest of the cast was good as well. Loved the music, especially “their” song. Locations were beautiful. Will probably watch this again.
