perfect example of how a movie ages poorly
Obviously this movie was going to be fat-shaming but that wasn't even the worst thing about this movie. It was made in 2006, so I know that I cannot hold it up to today's standards but this movie was
really sexist(featuring the male gaze), unfunny and made me uncomfortable while watching.
The "romance" scenes were borderline assault in my opinion. I cannot believe they wanted us to think that the kissing scene on the couch was supposed to be romantic. The way he looked at her legs and then forcefully kissed her, was the straw that broke the camels back - and how he dismissed her when she was obviously uncomfortable... ugh it still makes me angry!
...don't even get me started on the countless times he dismissed her, telling her to be quiet when they were talking business. That wasn't even ML jerk-behavior. Just sexism.
And the typical "overheard-you-talking-bs-about-me-in-the-bathroom" trope was never resolved, so I guess he actually thought about her that way.
ANYWAYS, I did not like this movie one bit. For a long time I could not watch the ML actor in dramas because of that couch-scene. I felt so opposed by his male gaze.

Plastic surgery advertising
First of all, I know this movie is old, but still I can't just considering like a pile of garbage (ノ ̄皿 ̄)ノ ⌒== ┫We have a fat female lead with weak personality who has a kind heart and foolishly falls in love with her good looking boss (or whatever xD) and after eavesdropping a convo between him and the other girl where he says "she's ugly but she has a good voice so be kind to her because we need her" decide to drastic change her appearance.
Girl, where was your brain when they highkey made you into that Ammy playback voice??? What kind of working contract is that???
WHY DID YOU FUCKING ABANDONED YOUR DOGGO???
Why in the name of the lord of bananas Kong the mighty you got back to that place??! Without some fine vendetta plan??!
The guy is just our typical asshole. He never acknowledge or apologize for his behaviors, but oh he's soooo different inside right? (?) And since he's good looking we forgive him. Go get a plastic surgery on that personality of yours, won't you?
And why the friend continuously called her ugly, monster and so on? What kind of friend do that?
To me this movie has no sense at all, the characters just make weird decisions and says atrocious things like they're talking about the wheater all the time.
There are also two attempt suicide that are inserted for COMIC RELIEF.
I need to pause to let you digest it.
In conclusion, this movie shows how normal is to mock someone for their weight (because fat people don't have feelings you know) and that no matter if you can do something really good and you're a nice person, just change your body in order to grab that asshole boy you had the misfortune to fell for. 2006 was a wild year.

First Korean show that got me interested
The first South Korean movie piqued my interest and the first one that got me to fall for Jo Jin Mo! Love the story! I love that it tackled both the (then) rising interest in cosmetic surgery and the real meaning of beauty. Love how she ends up being empowered and that no man is actually worth a woman's attention.I'm actually amazed at how all the actors and actresses stay looking not a day older even to this day. As for the music I love the soundtrack although it's only 1 song that she sang but it's something that is memorable.

I love the idea for this movie and the overall all plot going into it. I thought it was gonna be a good one and it didn’t disappoint not one little bit. A lot of girl feel the same way like the girl in this movie did. They feel as if they are bigger then the wanted size of like most non plus size models then they are fat and not beauty when that not the case. The girls feel like they become the small size the is most wanted by people they will become happier but as what was shown in this movie. Just becuse you become smaller doesn’t mean it will make you happier as the main girl in this story learned. It was also good that it was set in South Korea which has some of the worse body issues in the world so that young Korea girls could watch this and maybe learn something. But any girl no matter where they live could learn something from this movie for sure. It think all girl should watch this movie for sure. It a really good one. The main women in this story when under the knife to get smaller instead of doing exercise which some people would do that in real life. They did a good job with character development in the movie. Is was very emotion and it showed emotion in the movie well. It also talked about the main women in the movie being bullied for being a plus size women in Korea. It think this movie is a must watch every girl everywhere. Boys, women and men should watch it too of course. It very family friendly watch too. Was this review helpful to you?
Endearing sometimes
There were some parts of this that were endearing and funny; something about how old it is filled me with nostalgia. That's not to say that this movie was perfect by any means — it was really really cringey and overall I wish it had gone in more deeply on the plastic surgery/kpop industry instead of just sort of treating it like a plot device. The romance was something I could have done without as well, although I do have a soft spot for the Secret Identity trope.
Another plus for this movie is that the songs are genuinely catchy — I wish they dived more into that as well, you could sort of tell some of it was just included in order to show the actress' singing chops.

For all the classic rom-com lovers
Perhaps the very first Korean movie I ever watched. A very high rating for being an iconic 2000s rom-com filled with nostalgia. A cheesy but heartwarming story. Though, for a product of its time, I would say the story is fresh. It really encapsulates the essence of a romantic comedy in all the best ways. The music is catchy and I never find myself bored at any moment throughout the film. I could easily choose to re-watch this film again and again and enjoy it wholeheartedly every single time. Was this review helpful to you?

I was expecting more
This movie was just ok for me. I really wanted to love it. The plot was really intesting and it reminded me of this American movie called The Girl Most Likely to... he similiarities end with the main characters being fat/ugly and then becoming skinny/pretty and end there.I did like the cast and the music in the film but overall I think I was looking for something with more substance. It's a shame that if you are fat you ae considered ugly and don't deserved basic respect from the people around you. I hate this idea and it's a common theme in so many movies and tv series. So obnoxious but I digress. The movied wants trying to speak for all situations and was really about a woman finally realizing she is worth more than her size or a pretty face.
I really liked the best friend played Kim Hyun Suk but I was kind of annoyed when her character wanted plastic surgery too!!

I have seen different American Movies of this kind in Italian dubbed version in TV, but in my opinion this Korean Movie is the best. :-)
I have laughed too much , but I have also almost cried in some scenes and dialogues. :-)
I think see it again in the future. :-)
I ADVICE THIS MOVIES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGE! :-)

It is important to say that this film shows a reality that may not happen, but that makes us think about it. Imagine you, a little overweight, but with incredible talent, having to stay behind the scenes while someone else gets all the credit.
Imagine having to spend money that you may not have (hello huge installments) to stay the way "the public likes".
What made me watch the movie until the end was to think that the protagonist had to get that unfailing love out of her head.
The story is incredible, I advise everyone to watch only by the gleam of their eyes. Performance, I thought it was normal, they could have improved a lot, I keep thinking about how this film would be recorded in 2020 ...
The songs are bad, they are in the head but they are bad, thankfully that the music stars were fictional.
I think everyone should like at least 70% of what this film shows, it really makes us think about what the entertainment industry throws at us, and that seems to be very fake.

IDK
200 Pound Beauty was amazing but not what I expected. Like others, I really did enjoy this drama. But, like many others, I had a lot of criticsm. 200 Pound Beauty promotes such a negative message especially to younger girls that may be experiencing these same feelings Hanna had. This entire "Get Surgery, be skinny and pretty and no fat and ugly" is such a bad thing to promote. Don't get me wrong, getting surgery for YOU is completely different from getting surgery to solely fit into what society deems as acceptable. I would not be having this criticism if Hanna got surgery for HER and not in order to fit into a standard and to get a guy to like her (a guy who obviously liked her before she had the surgery). However, I did enjoy how this drama shed light on the rampant fatphobia that is prevalent within most societies and how simple 'teasing; could cause someone to hate themselves to the point they would want to undergo such drastic changes. Was this review helpful to you?

This drama was very entertaining to watch and I would personally rewatch it. The moral that I got in this is that we should not change ourselves for other people cause we are perfect the way we are.*LOTS OF SPOILERS*
*YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*
The story that I got and understood from it is that how much society can judge you because of your appearance just like what the story of this girl who tries changing herself because of what people think after she learns that she could not change herself naturally she resorts to plastic surgery, lots of people in this time nowadays get plastic surgery to change their appearance cause of what people think of them, we should be happy in our own skin cause this is the body that we were given and we should appreciate that. She changed herself and not that many people notice her, she tries getting with the person she loved but ended up failing, he forgot about the person that she cared about just because of fame, we should not make ourselves wrapped up in ourselves cause it is not healthy there are still people who care bout us. In the end, she lives happily now and learns to accept who she is, it has a pretty good moral.
