Certainly A Study In Shyness. Does It Work?

Tactically, this series is a bit incongruous simply because the story is not unabridged. To be honest, I ended up disliking it. Not because it was poorly acted. I eschewed it because it had no point, and it aimlessly wondered around trying to find one. It simply could not. I just did not get the why of the story. The whole story felt undeveloped. This is a good story that was overdone. It showed very little understanding of their relationship and even less understanding of them as individuals. Then there is this sudden burst of personalities from both at the end of the series that just felt like it was too contrived. I found nothing outstanding about this series. I could have easily skipped it as it had little effect on me. While well-acted, and we are certainly entertained by the supporting cast, it just did not do much for me. Watch it if you want. It is “okay’.

Short, sweet and unproblematic

When Korea wants to give us BLs with quality, they eat that up. WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE!
No spoilers here, just facts:
*8 episodes without fillers. No long scenes showing nature with elevator music
* Couples with great chemistry between them (as lovers and as friends).
* Dead fish kind of kiss? NOPE, NOT HERE.
* Like ThamePo, it gave us a look inside the issues that public figures deal with when they have a relationship. But here they are not actors, one is a retired gymnast and the other is a basketball player on the rise.

You can watch without worrying about a wild ex appearing or misunderstandings that last more than 1 episode. If you're having a sh*tty day, just watch it and you will feel warm inside (then you will notice that the reporter is the actor for Jun & Jun, and think "I should rewatch Jun & Jun).

CUTENESS OVERLOAD

I thought this series was very well made. The script and actors were really good and they were oozing chemistry. It had some of the best kisses and NC scenes coming from South Korean BL. The only downside was the short runtime, so some things happen way too fast and felt a bit rushed. All in all a very good, sweet comfort watch.

Worth watching (soft romance - green flag)!!

Ball boy tactics is an adaption from a Manwha (same name as series) This is so beautiful, cute and such a green flag.
The actors height difference and scenes were soo good! The chemistry is very strong, the plot is also stable!

It had happy ending and I could not have asked for more. It's so worth it, waiting every week for the episodes to drop. It did not disappoint at all although I was expecting more from the second couple! Really want to see more of these two.

Brick wall tactics

I got so hyped reading the reviews just to get disappointed 5 minutes into the first episode of the show.
I don't want to make it seem like it was a complete disaster, it was simply...mid. I believe the idea behind it was: "let's get the hottest boy we can find, pair him with a cute guy, and let the fangirls do the rest". There is no real thought behind the plot of this BL, and this pisses me off because it had true potential.
I want to avoid spoilers so I will not say too much but it wont be hard since not much happens anyways. Half the scenes are just fanservice, bland conversations between eyecandies, with one note personalities of a brick wall, that add nothing to the plot whatsoever. I don't think we ever see the main leads laugh or show real emotions, it's like they were constantly worried of not serving face so they had to be locked in at all times. Also chemistry? I don't know where people saw it, maybe there was a chem class in the back of the university setting 'cause for sure these two had none. The basketball guy was hot I admit it, and I loved his smirks, but I'm sorry I just can't handle real life kpop aegyo... the pouting from Jiwon was cute maybe the first time, then it hits that he's like 21 not a 15 yo girl so... but maybe that's on me.
Not everything is cringe or soulless tho! The two secondary characters were so fun they genuinely made me laugh, and that's because they felt real. They had no romantic role to fullfil and this enabled them to get more raw and unfiltered in my opinion. Also the actors who portraid them were great, not to say the main ones weren't but their line delivery was more lively and it didnt feel like an asmr like the others' did tbh. However I didn't think the ending between them was need and weirdly I don't wish for a spinoff.
All in all I think this show is worth watching if you really have no expectations and are just looking for a cute and lightearthed storyline, not too pretentious. On the other hand, if you were hoping to see a nice engagind dinamic between two pro athletes that keeps you glued to the screen and wanting for more, go watch A Breeze of Love idk

somethings off

When I first saw Ball Boy Tactics on social media I thought it would be promising both because of its intriguing plot and attractive cast. However, the couples' relationship dynamic is not the best and some of the events are shown extremely superficial. Now,I don't want to give spoilers but you expect a drama to continue from where its left, right? This drama leaves you somewhere at the end of the episode and takes you somewhere else,so distant from the previous episode that most of the time you'll have a hard time understanding what is going on on the drama. Also, the editing of the drama seems so clumsy especially in the third episode,as far as I can remember, one scene comes and goes without any transition effects.I really felt like I'm scrolling through bl edits on social media which makes the drama seem unprofessional.
Although I can understand the reason they act that way in the drama,I couldn't really relate to Han Jiwon's thoughts.Just because you haven't dated anybody else before doesn't mean you don't know basic human relationship sense.I can see in his eyes that he values Jeongu but he doesn't really understand what he feels. It feels like even Jeongu shouts his love from the rooftop he'll say "I don't really understand these things" and will try to shut his feelings down. However,I'm glad that he gathered the courage to make the move later on.
I also loved the friends and I'd like to seem them together in a different drama because they have the perfect chemistry:the one whos loud and dumb and the one whos silent and smart. They balance each other perfectly and even they had really small parts,I was rooting for them the whole time and they are actually together in my head.
This drama has also got surprisingly many good kissing scenes which differs from the other korean bls.I was waiting for "that scene" to stop like after " 1 or 2 minutes but it probably lasted more than 5 minutes which made me question why they haven't used that time to develop their relationship arc. But,can I say I didn't like it?Of course,I can not.I was actually really glad to see korean bls stepping up for a little and getting out of their comfort zone.
Overall, this drama needs much more improvement for the clumsy storyline which made the drama kind of choppy and needs better relationship build up.

OMG, this was pure cuteness overload!! I didn’t know the actors, but the story caught my eye and totally pulled me in. Korean BLs are usually top tier, and this one didn’t disappoint at all. It might seem like a basic opposites-attract plot, but the writing gave the characters real depth. Yeom Min Hyeok and Choi Jae Hyeok were flawless. The way they used body language and subtle expressions was chef’s kiss! Honestly, they’re the reason this series hit so hard. The way Jeong U looked at Ji Won? You could feel the love, no words needed. And when he confessed his feelings, it was so natural, it just melted me. Also, I’m a sucker for that height difference in couples, it just adds something extra! Their chemistry was off the charts

Another highlight? Seung Jin, played by Choi Rak Yeong. His cluelessness was kind of adorable. He totally missed what was going on right in front of him, from the blooming romance to Yang Eunoh’s feelings. I know a second season probably won’t happen, but man, it really deserves one. Either way, I’m super excited to see what these amazing actors do next!

Cute and short!

The positive feedback for this show was overwhelming, and honestly, if it hadn’t been for that, I probably would have never given it a chance.
The format is ideal. just 8 episodes, making it easy to binge. Personally, I think the story could’ve been a bit more complex and explained in more depth if the series had been longer, but overall, it was still an enjoyable watch!
My biggest disappointment was the scene order. At times, I found myself double checking if I was watching the correct episode because some transitions didn’t make much sense and felt a bit confusing.

That said, I LOVED the chemistry between the main characters. The acting felt genuine, and the subtle hints at a possible second couple were a great touch, I was rooting for them from the very first signs!
In conclusion: If you’re looking for something light and relaxing to watch, this show is a great choice. Not too heavy, engaging, and full of moments to enjoy.

SWEET

It wasn't quite what I expected, but I still genuinely enjoyed this series for the most part. I do think some things could've been done differently for a better result, but overall this series definitely is worth the hype.

Things I liked:
1. The main character's dynamic is so wholesome. They are adorable together, I really like their opposite personalities.
2. Great chemistry.
3. All of the kind and romantic gestures Jeong Woo does for Jiwon.
4. Friends. They were so funny, and I loved how supportive they were.

Things I disliked:
1. Jiwon hiding his relationship with Jeong Woo from their friends. I understand that he is worried about people finding out and their reaction, but he is selling it far too hard and for far too long. Especially since they are their friends, hiding it from them is insane.
I also understand that it's his first-ever relationship, but his boyfriend clearly said that it hurts him, but he continued doing the same thing.
2. Jiwon pissed me off incredibly in the 7th episode. I just wish they didn't add all that drama in one episode.
3. I really wished for the side couple to actually become a couple. Instead, we just got teased a few times, and that's it. I really loved them together; they truly deserve a separate mini-series or at least a special episode.

Overall, as I said, I enjoyed watching this series and probably will rewatch it again someday!

That’s it?

The story had real potential, and some serious topics were on the table: homophobia in sports, pressure on celebrities in South Korea… but unfortunately, everything is barely touched on. The real issue is that the series just doesn’t feel finished. The main relationship can’t stay as it is, and the two secondary characters haven’t resolved anything in their storyline.

It really leaves you hanging. Good acting alone isn't enough. Kind of a letdown.

A Quietly Compelling Underdog Story

“Ball Boy Tactics” is more emotionally grounded than its title suggests. What begins as a sports-themed coming-of-age tale slowly unfolds into something richer, touching on themes of insecurity, resilience, and self-worth. It doesn’t rely on dramatic stunts to hold your attention—instead, it thrives on subtle, honest moments between characters. While the pacing is a little uneven at times, it’s carried by strong performances and a sincere tone. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a drama that knows when to slow down and just let characters breathe. It may not have viral moments, but it has plenty of heart.

Cute, but a little weirdly paced

I tried to think of this independently as much as possible, but without the context of the manhwa plot it felt as if a lot of the story points felt too under-explored to have meaningful depth. It touched on all the parts of the manhwa I loved, but I wish they had gone a bit further (especially Jiwon's backstory, as it is quite significant to why he acts the way he does)...

I loved the actor for Jongwoo! He really captured his softness so well. I wish Jiwon's actor delivered a bit further, but all in all it was a cute watch.
