A Dark Fantasy That Goes WAY Further Than Expected
I was bored and randomly opened GagaOOLala, and the poster and premise for Proxy Driver caught my attention. I thought I was getting a mature BL with some drama and romance, but I was VERY wrong. I genuinely did not expect this series to go in the direction it did.It is only three episodes, so everything moves incredibly fast. Hun is struggling financially and works as a designated driver, driving drunk customers home in their own cars. One night, he picks up Hyeok, who falls asleep in the front seat. Hun notices the cash in Hyeok's pocket and, tempted by his situation, tries to take some. Unfortunately for him, Hyeok wakes up and catches him.
From there, things become extremely dark. Hyeok threatens to report Hun to the police, and Hun begs him not to. Hyeok then uses the situation to control him sexually. Honestly, I was shocked by how far the series went. The fantasy itself is obviously designed to be provocative, but I was NOT expecting such explicit visuals, even with the blurring. It definitely caught me off guard.
Later, Hyeok contacts Hun and tells him to come over, threatening to report him again. When they meet, Hyeok apologises and explains that he was drunk and dealing with the discovery that his wife was having an affair. Their relationship becomes even more complicated when the tension between them turns mutual and they kiss. However, the scene then crosses into sexual assault, especially because Hun had already said it was his first time and Hyeok ignored that completely.
The final episode takes things in another direction again, with Hyeok driving Hun home and their dynamic changing once more. By this point, the series has basically thrown every dark fantasy trope into three very short episodes.
What I found interesting is the idea of two men who presumably see themselves as straight suddenly experimenting with each other and discovering an attraction they did not expect. As a fictional fantasy, I actually found the premise pretty hot and surprisingly entertaining. At the same time, the series does not romanticise everything that happens. The blackmail, coercion and assault are obviously very dark elements, and unfortunately, situations involving power, manipulation and sexual violence can happen in real life.
Overall, this is definitely NOT a cute or fluffy BL. 😂 It is short, provocative, messy, uncomfortable and very much built around dark fantasy. I went in expecting one thing and came out thinking, WHAT DID I JUST WATCH? 😭
For only three episodes, Proxy Driver certainly made an impression.

not romance
Overall: I'm not really sure what to rate this against as maybe they weren't going for romance at all....note this short series and my review may have some triggering words/content. It is very explicit, with one body part blurred. 3 episodes about 10 minutes each. What I Liked
- a guy was interested/switched position
- props to the actors who really bared all, though I don't think it's necessary unless this was trying to be porn
Room For Improvement
- the one guy was a coersive jerk/abuser
- not enjoyable to watch the guy when he was on the couch, that did not look consensual (he said he enjoyed it the morning after when asked but maybe that was appeasement to get out of the situation, though then the last scene was confusing)

Trauma Bonding At The Breakfast Table
This was an incredibly complex and emotional story. One man has absolutely no emotional regulation while the other is too empathetic for his own good. Together, they form a toxic trauma bond. CEO uses Driver as a proxy for the wife who betrayed him, as well as a weapon for self-harm. Driver eats up the crumbs of CEO's affection to ease his own loneliness and discontent.If they were to exit the car and never see each other again, perhaps they both would survive this brief and harrowing encounter. If they continue to see each other...well, i guess we'll never really know. Either way, there is no happy ending to this story.

Old men and Blurry BJs
If you are looking for older men in their late 30s/40s give each other blurred out BJs, sloppy wet tounge kissing and some questionably consentual sex while crying then this is the short series for you. About 30 min runtime total on GagaOOLala. I'm surprised it was on MDL. It's not just pornographic per se, there is some artistic storytelling but very subliminal. While waiting for more details about the story, the show ends and the viewer is left questioning many things. There's more story in the synopsis than in the series itself. Rated 5/10 bc the acting was done well and the music choice set a dark mood.Was this review helpful to you?

the more time passes the more annoyed i get cause what the actual f*ck was the point of this?!??? like tell me anyone that get's sexual assaulted & then goes back for more??? get turned on cause of some water-works & sob story, enough for them to want to repeat what they were forced into the night before - but now they hungry for it?? (cause the night before opened their apatite???) then get graped & stay the night??? to wake-up the next morning in the same house, on the same sofa he was graped on, to eat breakfast with the same person that graped him - brutally while calling him a b*tch, asking if he was enjoying it so much, that's why he was crying from the joy of it all?!?? like make this make sense???? 1st off Jae Hun was owed money for his work & even if he shouldn't have reached into Jun Hyeok pocket to help himself, Jun Hyeok then demanding a BJ isn't exactly on the up & up - the sec those words came out of his mouth, Jae Hun could & should've threatened to call the cops himself, cause yeah he would be in trouble but so would Jun Hyeok. but lets go with the fact he was so terrified he would lose his only source of income & went through with it, when he got the text the next day (which was a black mail note - plain & simple) he still chose to go back - why??? Jun Hyeok assaulted him - which is a freakin crime & he for sure Jun Hyeok hold attempted robbery against Jae Hun, without getting in some hot water himself.
yet Jae Hun walks into the lions den & then even if u buy the sob story, he had so many opportunities to say no thank u & goodbye. yet he chose to sit & drink with someone he knew 1st hand got nasty when he was drunk - what???? & then for a straight man - heck i think even a gay man wouldn't be that happy to repeat what was forced on him the evening before, especially in a house where there was no where to escape. yet he wanted to comfort Jun Hyeok in-spite of what he did to him??? & not even that, he was that turned on by what he did the night before, he was hungry for it again??? & even when Jun Hyeok wanted more then his mouth, Jae Hun didn't say "stop or no" he for sure didn't fight him off, he said he hadn't ever done it before, that this would be his 1st time, that isn't a NO! - to me it seemed like he was saying, he wasn't ready or needed Jun Hyeok to take it slow. which given Jun Hyeok behavior to date, idk why Jae Hun thought he would be treated with care... i aint into victim blaming, but he kinda got what he came for - sorry not sorry & the fact he could sleep after.... in the same place/sofa/house he was assaulted in, to wake up the next morning like nothing happened, to sit civilly & eat what Jun Hyeok, even get in his car so he could drive him home - like sorry, but what the actual f*ck - this kinda reaffirms my conclusions to my assuming he wanted what he got.
idk if either is straight or gay & it really doesn't matter, cause this wasn't about sexuality. on Jun Hyeok's part his demanding a BJ or even graping Jae Hun wasn't a sexual act - it was an act of dominance, he was hurt & pissed at his wife & the pastor but couldn't hurt them. Jae Hun was someone powerless & submissive (cause of his position in life & the societal hierarchy), someone that could be used & abused without really suffering any consequence & Jun Hyeok did just that, used him to vent his rage, angry, the impotency he felt by being cheated on by the person that affirms his manliness. he used Jae Hun to get the power back.
the ending where he pleasures Jae Hun, IMO was a way to keep Jae Hun in his life - so he would keep coming back. not cause he suddenly turned gay. he just knew he couldn't keep blackmailing him about some money, not after everything he had done - which was way way worse. either way this was messed-up & it just annoyed me, cause i feel like what was done to Jae Hun - u r dealing with such heavy & sensitive subjects & making light of them or just disregarding them, cause Jun Hyeok was the receiver at the end, so they now a couple - put a stamp of happily ever after & the end - this just a different type of romance, that's messed-up...
