Similar in concept of a war and women are used to "comfort" the sexual desires of the soldiers. The difference is Flowers of War is more action packed and stars a white male in the lead. This is an award winning film in Asia and was nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards.

The plot follows Princess Turandot, who is cursed by a mysterious power emanating from three Mazovian bracelets that were given to her as birthday gifts. These bracelets’ life-draining effects cause the princess to become cruel, and gradually lose her humanity.
Foreign princes who come to court her must solve three riddles, one for each bracelet, and only then will she be freed from the power of the bracelets. In the event any of the questions is answered incorrectly, the attempted solver would be put to death. One day, Calaf, an ordinary citizen, risks his life to answer the riddles to save her and inadvertently uncovers his own extraordinary past.

Both based on true events of The Rape of Nanking, 1937.
This certainly isn't an easy film to watch (*warning*: graphic rape scenes) but it's an important look into a period of history that deserves to be recognized by more people.

Same time period, both covering the effects of war on civilians with an foreigner ML as the POV. Both dramas have a star-crossed romance, and a tragic ending with the ML surviving after the FL's sacrifice. Both have children as supporting characters.

The same events and time period, but one is a drama and the other a documentary. Both are very difficult to watch, but important and moving.

Both are set in the time period and explore the tragedy of war upon the civilians. Both are very poignant, sad stories, with a hopeful but tragic ending.
