A lot of times the reason for us to continue watching a drama is not only the main ship but also the alternate romantic couple of the show We love them so much that sometimes we start shipping their plot more than the main story. Here are such 6 alternate love stories who walked into our heart and refused to leave us.

P.S.: BEWARE OF THE SPOILERS AHEAD

#6  KIM PIL SUK & JASON (played by IU & JANG WOO YOUNG) of DREAM HIGH (2011)

Now, personally, I was not a very big fan of this drama. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it but thought it lacked emotions and depth and the characters were a teeny bit stiff. But that didn't stop me from falling in love with our Milky Couple! Kim Pil Suk (played by IU) and Jason (played by WOO YOUNG) were this adorable couple of Kirin High School, though they had a rough start, they eventually ended up as one of the most shipped couples of the dramaland. Pil Suk was a shy, overweight, gifted singer that was doubtful and unsure of her talents because of her weaknesses. But what or rather who really changed her was Jason, an American-born dancer. She both admired and loved him as a fan at the beginning and his attention started to work as a key of motivation for her to become more confident at what she's really good at. The push and pull game they played when Pil Suk lost all her weight and came out of her cocoon as a beautiful butterfly, was so cute to watch. Now he was the one to chase her.

Ultimately this adorable couple did end up together. But I'll always be mad at the director for blacking out their kissing scene. Like who does that? You need to watch this show to understand what I am talking about. ALL HAIL MILKY COUPLE!

#5  CHU GA EUL & SO YI JUNG (played by KIM SO EUN and KIM BUM) of BOYS OVER FLOWERS (2009)

Long before people started shipping SoRim (Kim So Eun and Song Jae Rim) couple, there was a legendary ship which took ALL of us by storm and it was the SoEulmate couple! Everything about them was so cute and adorable that it gave me a forever pending hope to see them on my computer screen again. This show gave us a lot of things: a Kdrama addiction, flag bearer of the second lead syndrome and a whole new meaning of SoEulmate (Soulmate, get it?).

Their chemistry together was even better than the main couple and maybe their acting also? Ga Eul (played by Kim So Eun) and Yi Jung (played by Kim Bum) were the pair of these supporting characters whose ultimate aim was to unite and then reunite Geum Jan Di (played by Gu Hye Sun) and Gu Jun Pyo (played by Lee Min Ho), but somewhere along the way they became each others' solace and support system. Ga Eul helped Yi Jung to heal his past scars and he taught her a thing or two about life. Even though they seem to have a very vague ending, we got a hint at the end that they might end up together. Because "Your soulmate isn't someone who comes peacefully in your life" remember?

#4  KANG HO KYUN & BYUNG KANG CHUL (played by LEE SOO KYUNG and IM SEUL ONG) of HO GOO'S LOVE (2015)

This particular second lead love story is so hilarious to watch. Kang Chul (played by Im Seul Ong) is a narcissist, uptight, selfie-loving, lawyer; who believes that he is gay and in love with Ho Goo (played by Choi Woo Shik) who stole his first kiss. But actually it's not Ho Goo but his relationship-savvy twin sister Ho Kyung (played by Lee Soo Kyung) who kissed him and now wants to take revenge on him for not recognizing her after their kiss.

After a couple of surgeries and a psychology degree in her hand, she's on a mission to understand this particular human's mind. Their chemistry and faceoffs are so hilarious to watch as they help our main couple in their personal lives while struggling with their own. The funniest scene ever in this drama was when he realized that he is not actually gay and the one whom he actually kissed was Ho Kyung. You have to see his face filled with both relief and confusion. Good thing is that they make up and make out by the end of the series and probably had their own weird happily ever after.

#3  LEE JAE SHIN & EUN SHI KYUNG (played by LEE YOON JI and JO JONG SUK) of KING2HEARTS (2012)

Jo Jung Suk in his breakthrough performance as Royal Guard Shi Kyung and the dramaland's favourite go to princess Lee Yoon Ji as Jae Shin became my all time favourite second lead couple for various reasons. Their outstanding chemistry being one of them, along with their brilliant acting. Jae Shin, a Royal Princess by the day and a rock band singer by the night, gets arrested by then in duty, Shi Kyung. Their relationship started off in a classic push and pull manner and became unexpectedly tragic by the end. When the Princess became paralyzed after her kidnapping and turned sour towards the world, it was Shi Kyung who was able to bring the old, optimistic, fun-loving and naughty Jae Shin back. She in return changed the always strict Shi Kyung into a romantic ball.

So, I'll never forgive the writer for what they did with Shi Kyung at the end. I'll also never forget that last scene when they were discussing her blind date prospect at their favourite spot, only for him to turn out be a ghost from her imagination.

#2  YOON MYEONG JOO & SEO DAE YONG (played by KIM JI WON and JIN GOO) of DESCENDANTS OF THE SUN (2016)

The popularity of this show and its characters is hard to explain. Both of the couples from the drama were equally cute but it was the intensity between our Lieutenant and Sergeant that attracted me the most. Jin Goo, who was only playing invisible to side characters before Descendants and Kim Ji Won, who was typecasted as playing the clingy girlfriends, turned the table on their side with this drama. Their chemistry as star-crossed lovers that can't be together because of their military and background status was on point.

They had funny, sad and tragic moments of their own. She had the courage to lead their relationship and stand up for them while he understood her father's decision and respected him as his senior, so eventually backed down. They were in an on and off relationship for a while and then ultimately they had a very dramatic reunion. Their kissing scenes were uniquely adorable to watch!Be it in a car (which was driving itself) or under a snowfall (in a place where geographically it is impossible to snow. EVER!) or in a canteen full of soldiers (privacy much?). This love story, in particular, is so interesting to watch.

#1  KIM SUN/SUNNY & WANG YEO/ GRIM REAPER (played by YOO IN NA and LEE DONG WOOK) of GOBLIN (2017)

E1VvZ2r1_62394d_f.jpg

Goblin has to be the most fun, loving and tragic love story of all time. Never in my life, I would I have imagined that I would ship Lee Dong Wook with anyone else apart from Lee Da Hae and Yoo In Na with Ji Hyun Woo. However, Goblin made it possible and for the time being my ultimate ship is Sunny (played Yoo In Na) and the Grim Reaper (played by Lee Dong Wook) couple. Kim Sun and Wang Yeo had their share of tragic life as King and Queen of Goryo, but their love story as Grim Reaper who has lost his memory and a chicken shop owner Sunny was something unforgettable. Their chemistry bursts out of the screen whenever they came together.

I loved the vegetarian and adorable as hell Grim Reaper and sassy, straightforward Sunny even more than the main couple. I was craving for their story to unfold and the mystery to unravel. They are the master of the star-crossed lover as it took them three lifetimes to finally unite without any hurdles or baggage. He fell in love with her at first sight in both his life and had tragic separation with her both the times. Their final goodbyes to each other and to the Goblin/Kim Shin (played by Gong Yoo) was so emotional to watch that it left all of us with a heavy heart. Their whole life and relationship brought tons of smiles to us, at a time and tortured our tear ducts at another. I just couldn't stop crying while looking at them. But at least they meet again as strangers in another lifetime, without any burden of the memories to haunt them and had their own happy ending. Indeed, the best second lead love story EVER!

HONOURABLE MENTION:

#  LEE BO NA & YOON CHAN YOUNG (played by KRYSTAL and KANG MIN HYUK) of THE HEIRS (2013)

 e10z76W3_432b8a_f.jpg

This cute couple gets an honourable mention on my list as they were not exactly a second lead couple but one of the many side characters and couples this show had. Both BoNa (played by Krystal) and Chan Young (played by Kang Min Hyuk) stood out in their roles and shone brighter than the main ship(s), even with their limited screen time. This couple was good looking, cute, adorable, clingy and didn't care about the status differences which that school had created, as BoNa comes from an influential family and Chan Young was a star scholar student. In this mayhem of who should date whom and who is in love with whom, they were the most and probably the only sorted out couple who knew their priorities and feelings and had their own heart fluttering moments. The ultimate goal of this couple was not winning or losing or lying or cheating, unlike others, but just loving.
