Don Lee Reveals He Has Planned Eight Installments for "The Roundup" Movie Series
The upcoming KBS saga The Goryeo-Khitan War (working title) will mark the return of the veteran actor Choi Soo Jong to the small screen. He will be making a comeback through the show for the 50th anniversary of KBS public broadcasting.
The Goryeo-Khitan War K-drama will mark Choi Soo Jong's first historical drama in 10 years since The Great King's Dream (2012). His famous previous works include Into the Flames, President, and Dae Jo Yeong, among others.
The period drama tells the story of King Hyeonjong, the 18th emperor of the Joseon dynasty of Korea who brought the entire empire together and led the war against Khitan to victory with the help of his mentor and commander-in-chief of the Goryeo army Kang Gam Chan.
Choi Soo Jong will play the role of General Kang Gam Chan. The Goryeo-Khitan War follows the 26-year war between the Goryeo Dynasty and the Khitan Empire - the strongest empire of its time - and the glorious victory of General Kang Gam Chan, who also triumphed in the Battle of Guiju. The drama will portray the victory of the dynasty of Goryeo led by its wise emperor Hyeonjong.
The directors of the movie are Jeon Woo Sung (whose famous works include Strongest Deliveryman and Your House Helper) and Kim Han Sol ( known for his extraordinary work in Three Kingdom Wars - Imjin War 1592). The screenplay is penned by Lee Jung Woo who also drafted Gunman In Joseon, Strongest Deliveryman, and The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won.
The Goryeo-Khitan War is scheduled to air in the second half of 2023.
