Happy New Year my MDL friends!! I hope this year will bring us more awesome dramas and movies.

Without a further ado, here are some of my favorite movie picks to indulge this weekend:

1. This Is Not What I Expected

If you like to relax and enjoy watching without much angst or thought, this movie is perfect. It is a very easy watch with a typical rom-com plot. The cinematography is visually pleasing with an abundant use of vibrant colors and a lot of mouthwatering food at display. The humor is decent. All in all, an enjoyable ride. Plus, Takeshi Kaneshiro is a plus plus!

2. Wood Job

Japan does it so well, blending a good story with showcasing a culture/custom/tradition. This movie does it beautifully and I enjoyed this a lot. The movie's focus is on forestry in Japan, and the way this movie handles its theme is awesome. The rural setting is picturesque. If you are into a good, down to earth, coming of age drama (with good LOL moments), then this is for you. (I am a 'happiest fool~' for this movie!)

3. Bedevilled

This movie is definitely not for the weak-hearted. You've been warned!

But,  if you look past the gore and gritty violence, you find an utterly painful story that is soo relevant to most of the Patriarchal Asian societies. You can't help but feel for the main lead Bok Nam, and even crave for bloody revenge. If you like movies that  get your adrenaline running, have solid acting and a good story, and leave you thinking deeply, then this movie is for you.

Bonus: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring

This is such a beautiful movie. It has few actors, minimal dialogue, and is set in one location. It depicts the simple yet mesmerizing story of the cycle of life and redemption. Even if you are not a fan of Kim Ki Duk's movies, you can easily enjoy this one because it is way more of a breezy watch compared to his other works. Nevertheless, it is a classic.

Happy watching!!!
