Ito Kentaro, known for his roles in Kyou Kara Ore wa!! , Ashi Girl and Tokyo Love Story, was arrested in October 2020 under suspicion of a hit-and-run case.  He was suspected of hitting a motorcycle, at an intersection in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo seriously injuring the passengers, and then leaving the scene.

On October 28, last year, Ito made a U-turn on the road in Sendagaya, Tokyo, entered the oncoming lane, and collided with a motorcycle that was going straight. Two people were seriously injured, including a broken left leg. Once he left, he went around a hundred or so meters away, but when he stopped at a red light, he was blocked by a car that followed him. The  driver persuaded Ito Kentaro to return to the scene in about three minutes.

His actions violated the  Car Driving Penalty Law (accidental injury) and the Road Traffic Act.

According to the interview, a settlement has been established between Mr. Ito and the victim, and the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office has dismissed Mr. Ito today.

Mr. Ito admitted to the Metropolitan Police Department's investigation that he was "upset."

People and Fans, “I apologize once again for causing a great deal of inconvenience to all concerned and fans due to the traffic accident caused by my lack of awareness and immaturity. I sincerely apologize to the victims who were injured by the accident.” — ITO KENTARO (2021) Translation by LALAINE

When asked if he wanted to return to acting he replied. "I can't really think about it now, but I wish I could express myself as an actor again someday."

Because of this incident, he has been dropped from all acting contracts for both commercials and movie/drama deals. According to several people concerned, the Ito side has been asked for damages totaling about 750 million yen [$6.8 million]  from CM companies, TV stations, and stage officials who canceled their contracts due to this accident.
