Jang Geun Suk might officially return to the drama scene soon!
On June 21st media outlets reported that Jang Geun Suk has been picked as the main lead for the upcoming Coupang Play original series titled "Chronicles of Crime" (literal translation). According to reports, Jang Geun Suk already received the script for the series and the actor is positively considering it.
If Jang Geun Suk confirms his casting, this will be the first drama after four years. He last starred in the 2018 series "Switch: Change the World."
"Chronicles of Crime" (literal translation) will focus on the subject of crime. The character that was offered to Jang Geun Suk has not yet been revealed.
The upcoming series will be helmed by director Kim Hong Seon, the man behind the brilliant works such as "Voice," "The Guest," "Metamorphosis," and more. He is also the director of the upcoming Korean version "Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area."
"Chronicles of Crime" is currently in discussion to premiere on the OTT platform Coupang Play. Nothing has been decided yet and there are still possible changes to the broadcast network.
Jang Geun Suk started his military service in July 2018. He got discharged in May 2020 but instead of returning right away to acting, the actor focused on meeting his fans through various activities.
Last year, reports of Jang Geun Suk returning to dramas circulated. He was supposed to work alongside Girls Generation Choi Soo Young in the Daum KakaoTV original series "Accidental Country Diary" but their casting fell through. Actor Choo Young Woo and Red Velvet's Joy replaced them instead.
Jang Geun Suk is known for leading the dramas "The Royal Gambler," "Bel Ami," "Love Rain," "Mary Stayed Out All Night," "You're Beautiful," "Hong Gil Dong," and many more.
