King Maker: The Change of Destiny is a 24 episode Korean historical drama airing on May 17th. The series should be airing in a few days, and plenty of netizens have been excited about the premiere!

In my opinion, there are way more Korean contemporary dramas than historical. I always get excited when they release one, as there may not be as many but a large majority of them are excellent.

Don't worry, I got you a summary ( ✧≖ ͜ʖ≖)

Synopsis

Set in the late Joseon period, this drama series follows face reader (physiognomist) Choi Chun Joong (Park Shi Hoo) as he tries to build up an ideal nation.

Choi Chun Joong is Joseon’s greatest fortune teller and physiognomist. He is a hero of the turbulent times, and he is the king of Joseon’s people. Choi Chun Joong possesses the great ambition of building a new nation after overturning Joseon, which has been ruined by the men in power.

With handsome looks, Choi Chun Joong is a sophisticated man who excels in the arts, including martial arts, gambling, singing, and dancing. He is also a romantic who puts everything in the line for the woman he loves. With a way with words and a brilliant mind for politics, he’ll create a miracle, making Yi Ha Eung the most powerful man in Joseon; Yi Ha Eung’s son, Lee Jae Hwang, into a King; and Min Ja Young, a girl from the streets, into Joseon’s empress.

Adapted from the novel "Baramgwa Gooreumgwa Bi" by Lee Byung Joo (published from 1977 to 1987 in newspapers The Chosun Ilbo). Story features a mixture of fictional characters and real historical characters.

The synopsis seems to have some unique features such as the ML being a physiognomist which I would say is fairly unique. I cannot tell the main genre of this drama as I prefer it avoiding too much politics. The costumes from the pictures seem well done, so I'm assuming this drama didn't have a small budget.

My concerns about the drama are the ratings due to the cast. Many netizens have not gotten over Park Shi Hoo's scandals as he has been criticized by the public for many years. It would be best if I don't state my personal opinion on this, but I'm still hoping for the drama to go well.

"On February 18th, A decided to report Park for rape. It is not uncommon for rape to go completely unreported, so the delay is not evidence of anything, although it does make it impossible to trace drugs and difficult to trace other biological evidence. Park was summoned for questioning on the 19th and then the 24th but failed to appear both times. His third summons was for March 1st, which I assume he showed up for. He also felt that the particular police department was being too open with the press, so he requested that his case be passed to a different department."

"The company stated that it was, therefore, Park Shi Hoo’s fault that the filming had fallen through and they filed a lawsuit against Park Shi Hoo’s then agency Didim531, demanding that they pay compensation for a 270 million won (approximately $234,000) advance and for damages caused by delay."

With all of this adding up, many people are worried that it will affect the drama as many netizens have not supported Park Shi Hoo as the male lead. How do you feel about this situation?
