Hey, guys! I am back with another fan guide to one of the rising stars in the Korean Film Fraternity. I came to know him after watching Love Alarm and instantly fell in love with his acting skills and his charms. His good looks being the plus point to his personality. He is known for giving back to back original series on the OTT platform Netflix.

Song Kang was born in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. His family comprises his mother, father, and younger brother. He started taking acting lessons a year after graduating high school. Song Kang didn’t go to university right after graduating high school because he was not sure of which department to graduate in. After contemplating, he was going to major in interior design before deciding to pursue an acting career.

Debut

He then joined his current management Namoo Actors after auditioning for them. He was selected, after five rounds of auditions. He debuted through KBS1's miniseries Hello, Spring. Then he went on to play the major lead's childhood friend Baek Jinwoo in tvN’s The Liar and His Lover in 2017. The same year, he was cast in the family drama Man in the Kitchen and took part in several variety shows like Village Survival, The Eight

Rising Popularity

His prominence in the K-Drama scene started when he starred as the main lead of the Netflix original drama Love Alarm. This drama helped him set up his name in the K-Drama world, instantly becoming a fan favorite. Song passed the audition from about 900 people! Further to his already rising stardom, he was once again propelled to high popularity when he starred in the apocalyptic horror Netflix original series Sweet Home. For his role in Sweet Home, he was awarded Best New Actor - television at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards.

	Drama: Love Alarm Love Alarm is a Netflix original romantic drama where a cell phone app named Joalarm exists. This app rings when it detects someone who has feelings for you to help to find true love. Song Kang played a cool and spontaneous person in this drama. He was cast as Hwang Sun-Oh. Hwang Sun-Oh tries to attract Kim Jo-Jo to prove that his best friend, Hye-Yeong, really cares about her, but he falls in love with her, too. His actions toward Kim Jo-jo are captivating and undeniable. You could easily fall in love with him. He reprised his role in the show's second season too.
Drama: Sweet Home Song Kang played Cha Hyun-Soo, an introverted personality. He plays a suicidal student who moves to his new apartment, where the story takes place. Then, they have to deal with a strange situation where people change into monsters, and they need to survive.
	Drama: Navillera Song Kang became Chae-Rok, a ballet dancer in the drama Navillera. He revealed that portraying this character wasn’t too difficult since the character is passionate about his dream, the same way he is in real life. He learned ballet for this drama from professionals. He expressed that he could combine the emotions, characteristics, and the role into himself.
Drama: Nevertheless In the drama Nevertheless, Song Kang plays Park Jae-Eon as the main role. Park Jae-Eon doesn’t believe in dating or flirting. However, Park Jae-Eon meets Yoo Na-Bi, who is also not interested in love but wants to try dating. They meet and rethink their determination.

In his upcoming drama, Meteorological Agency People: Cruelty of Office Romance, Song Kang plays Lee Shi-Woo alongside Park Min Young. Again, he is the main character. This drama is about working life in the National Weather Service. Lee Shi-Woo is the man behind the breaking news of the National Weather Service who is naïve and clumsy yet has a high IQ. He meets Jin Ha-Kyung, who is a sensitive and planned person. He will also reprise his role as Cha Hyun-Soo in the second season of Sweet Home, Sweet Home 2.

Achievements

Song Kang has already received some achievements in his work. He is considered new in this industry, but he proves his capability.

In 2018, Song Kang got the Rookie Award at the 12th SBS Entertainment Awards for his work in Village Survival, the Eight, and being the MC for the music show Inkigayo.

Moreover, in 2021 he was nominated at the 57th Baeksang Arts Award, a prestigious award for acting, in the category Best New Actor (TV) based on his work on the drama Sweet Home.

His fans nicknamed him “Son of Netflix” or “Netflix’s Son”, because of his continuous projects with Netflix. It is also because Netflix sponsors every project of his other than original series,
He is also called “Song River”, “Song Actor”, “Ginger”, “Song Puppy” by his fans. His nickname is "Guy Who Came Out Straight Out of Comic Book".
He shared that he wants to be a sexy actor. Therefore he chose the actors Kim Jae Wook and Joo Ji Hoon as his role models. Aside from those actors, he also mentioned his co-star in When The Devil Calls Your Name, Jung Kyung Ho, Tom Hardy, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
He decided to be an actor after watching Leonardo DiCaprio in the film “Titanic”.
Before debuting as an actor, he received several casting offers to be an idol trainee but rejected them because he wanted to be an actor.
He is ambidextrous.
