I think each country has their own genre style for me if I want crazy slap/kiss - Thai Lakorns, if  I want heart wrenching, mystery, or slice of life - J-Doroma, if I'm looking for that sappy, doesn't make sense why they fall in love - K-drama, and if I want historical, fantasy, or just simple fun - C-drama/T-Drama.  I have a lot of shows I start but don't necessarily finish at once, it's like reading books to me, I have to be in the mood for that style of book or drama to watch it. What I watch matches my mood of the day so my currently watching list is like crazy long and sometimes insanely long because I'll start but interest will fizzle so I will hop over to another show.

I thought some of the recent CDramas were good  tho- Did you not like Only Side by Side with you, Cinderella Chef, MR Right, Love Knot ? Im kind of liking them though

I started Only Side by Side and decided to wait until it was finished airing and then never got back to it. Haven't watched the others yet, although I'm hearing good things about Love Knot and will watch that when it finishes airing.

The quality of Cdramas is definitely improving, but as long as they have to continue to cough up 46+ episodes or conform to the Chinese taste for the tragic, they're still going to suck a little.

Interesting thought process - but I agree with Thai lakorns- crazy and make me question my intelligence (atleast most of them) cant get over their screaming, clingy shameless second women, slaps, etc

As for J-dorama somehow I find them to be filmed more like a stage play and the physical intimacy borders on awkwardness and robotic. Also most of them have darker shades especially their movies and ending is always more open. I think it reflects their current social lives or non existence of it. they seem to be sad and lonely souls by large - influenced by the nuclear holocaust and harsh winters. but I agree that some of their dramas or movies are very original and their camera work and love for nature are so poetically beautiful while some others are so violent and brutal.

As for C& T Dramas they seem to come more from the mind than heart and highly influenced by the west and seem to reflect the need for climbing up the social ladder while dealing with the busy rat race in the cities. They seem  to have forgotten their rich cultural heritage but which creeps up in their fantasy wuxia themed dramas.

AS for KDramas of which I am or was a die hard fan  they used to be more from the heart oriented and have a certain gentleness and look at life emotions in depth - I remember this sentence which really made me think from the Drama "High society" - not all relations that begin with bad intention ends badly and not all relations beginning with good intentions end well. Made me really think that we mostly view life in Black and white.

- And yeah for myself  i guess am trying to figure out what the hell I am doing with my life as (a serious drama addict) I mustve watched about 400+ plus dramas overall (am too lazy to list them out) and dont seem to be getting over them in the near future...

thanks for your reply - seem to be rambling on -lol :)

Actually I think of  myself deep enough into the k-drama scene but I haven't even heard of  half the dramas on your list. I have some suggestions to your problem:

Based off my last two points, I do think dramas have changed. With older  dramas I used to be able to just skip bad parts and only watch the good  (falling in love) parts but I haven't been able to do that with any  dramas lately. I find I have to watch the whole thing. So I guess the  pacings different and it's not as dramatic or over-the-top as they used  to be.

Thanks @Anura - liked your analysis and thought process.  Agree with you and as you said they seem to have a strict template nowadays out of which they have to conjure up stories and they seem to have run out of creative ammo

and wow you are a pro - i saw that your list of dramas plan to watch /completed etc all put together is about 300+ and I can safely say it includes 75% of those I'Ve watched.

Seriously you plan to watch the 202 dramas or it includes those completed? :O

If you havent then my favourites (recommend) in that list are

1. Can you hear my heart - (it really got me I loved it)

2. Ugly Alert

3. five enough

4. Arang and Magistrate

5. Bel Ami and Mary stayed out all night if you havnt and Go Back Couple

See you soon - be gald to share more-if required

2017-2018 been really bad, the only decent once in my opinion were:

Welcome to Waikiki - was so funny & refreshing

Live - new, not generic with a lot of suspense but not every person cup of tea

Because This is My First Life - best romance in YEARS & amazing chemistry between all main characters

Age of Youth 2  - not as good as 1st season but still enjoyably

Avengers Social Club - great start with many potentials, loved the cast & had like mediocre ending

I loved Because this is my 1st Life too - will try Live... avengers social club i think i liked though i felt was a bit childish

I concur.  I was all about the Kdramas but predictable, repetitive story lines just took a toll on me and even the same style of acting got on my nerves.  Cdramas are the shit right now.  I'm totally addicted ^_^

 MoonBeam:

I saw you have Road to North on your list - I would suggest Can you hear my heart instead - one of my favourites (hope you havnt seen it)- i hardly rewatch any but this one is an ACE and i ran it 10 on 10  in terms of writing direction and acting

also oh my venus was good i liked the actors

I have but a little late and honestly I just found it alright...I guess I just don't find the novelty any more....one drama that I really liked last year was the 'first half of my life'...watch it if you haven't...the story is a little mature but worth your time

sure will check it out Thanks buddy

I drop shows usually because of annoying female leads who are weak, whiny, trip over their own feet or are totally  rude wenches or if  the story goes crazy

annoying female lead

✔️ Shin Se Kyung...... I avoid her dramas like the plague now (BOTWG, Black Knight)

✔️ Witch's Court

✔️ Meet Me at 10:06 (Chinese)

✔️ Investigative Couple

✔️ You Drive Me Crazy ( I wanted to kill FL)

story went bad

✔️ Something About the Rain (her mom went psycho and other stupid things that ruined the romance)

You're welcome :)

its simple dude - you just need a break there's a time when you'll start to predict what will happen next in drama that's the time when you should take a break for a week or two / i had same problem with (anime) everything felt generic and i was let down quite often, but after i took break and resumed later i was fine (And don't forward watch dramas) Main reason why you'll get bored is you won't delve into stories deep enough to hook you in for every episode(watch some psychological/crime drama)

I agree that weak female leads turn me off and I concur with you about ShinSe Kyung - seriously the only kd where i could tolerate her was The Girl Who Sees Scents -  think her zoned out look and non emotive face actually worked for the part she played. I felt the same way about doctors- Park Shin hye and Kim Rae Won -

I have not watched any of the others except Witchs court which was just about ok. I dropped Something About the Rain.

I felt the Noona romance which i could really enjoy was 1.  Whats up Fox (maybe because it was one of the earlier dramas where i had just then only gotten in to Asian Drama fever and

2. High School King of Savvy - because of Seo in Guk - he was really cute and somehow the naivity of the drama was believable

hope we get to watch better KDs

Thanks KUKDU  will try watching some crime / psychology dramas - the ones i really enjoyed in that genre were - Seo in Guks -I remember you/ hello Monster?

Love me if you Dare ( chinese)

Girl who can see smells/ scents

Kill me heal me

I have completed only 6 of the ones that were on your list (and most of those were only 'okay' at best). There were a few I dropped also.

I checked your list and you seem to like a lot of the same dramas I liked. For your consideration, here are some I completed and enjoyed that I didn't see on your list (apologies if I messed up and have listed anything you've already watched - I tried to double check)

  • Signal
  • Stranger
  • Reply Series (1997, 1994, 1988)
  • Prison Playbook
  • The Package

Maybe there'll be something on there that will strike your fancy. I'd either take a break when I'm in a slump and re-watch a favorite or watch some other type of entertainment for a week or two and come back to it.
