hello um I'm new to this club as well as historical dramas. I used to skip the historical dramas coming my way for the past 3 years. now I'm interested in watching more after Mr. Queen and Romance of Tiger and Rose. I'll read the previous posts and add some dramas to my PTW! Thankyou for creating this amazing discussion :))

WandereR

I love Cdrama OST. Thank you for posting this.

Sometimes I like the OST more than the series itself.

One of my favourites is:

  • Love by Hypnotic
  • Under the Power
  • Arsenal Military Academy
  •  Legend of Yun Xi

And just to show my age: The Bund

You're most welcome and thanks for sharing your fav tracks as well!

I love the theme song for The Bund too  :D

Frances Yip is fantastic and sang both versions (Cantonese and Mandarin) which are equally nice.

Zhou Shen has an amazing voice! Another OST singer that i really like is Chen Xueran, his songs were used for The Great Ruler (yt link) and Dance of the Sky Empire (yt link), and many more (historical and not) dramas.

I love his song for Guardian, with the whole orchestra backing him up it sounds so grand. Not historical, though.

 WandereR:
One of the singers in the duet that you're listening to, Claire Kuo, also sang one track for Rebel Princess which I like too :)

nice! i'll search for it ^^

Hello amazing people!

After Listening Snow Tower and Joy of Life, my heart and soul are bewitched! So I've decided to join this lovely club and enjoy myself among historical veterans.

Help a lady out by recommending what to watch next. What's your top 3 favorite historical dramas?

PS: I've watched the Untamed and loved it.

Hey and welcome among us my friend!! ^.^

I'll try to recommend dramas that have at least some aspect similar to the ones you mentioned!

Also, @Wanderer, that's a great list you got there, wow!!!

In random order (not ranked):

Chinese

  • Bloody Romance (Compelling characters that are full of secrets, hidden identities, and their own personal motives, passions & obsessions, beautiful dark dark atmosphere & themes, bittersweet throughout.)
  • Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre (Based on a classic wuxia novel with hundreds of adaptations, it's full of thrilling action scenes, adventure, and romance, set in the jianghu [world of martial artists], with the rivalries of various sects & cults and their consequences as the background.)
  • Legend of Fu Yao (wuxia/xianxia --I'd say more wuxia at the 1st half, and more xianxia at the 2nd half-- full of badass characters!)
  • Nirvana in Fire (often termed the best wuxia/historical Chinese drama ever made, it's certainly a compelling, very cleverly written drama with plots upon plots & layers under layers, unforgettable characters & a majestic production!)
  • Nirvana in Fire 2: The Wind Blows in Chang Lin (Same as above, the writing is slightly less clever but more emotional in my opinion.)
  • Singing All Along (Historical-War drama, with great fights & battle scenes, one of my favourite badass fls, and a lifetime devoted romance!)
  • The Flame's Daughter (Wuxia, set in jianghu, very pleasant aesthetics & swordfights!)
  • The Rise of Phoenixes (Schemes, power couple, badass leads, addicting, excellent production through & through [ok, except for the last 5 episodes]!)

Korean

 Its You:

I want to join this club. this is my favourite genre of drama. At the moment I am a break from watching dramas. I was just looking today at which shows to watch and I think my next to watch drama will be The Rebel Princess. Has anyone seen in? whats the opinion?

Welcome among us!! ^_^

The Rebel Princess is amazing, and so addicting!!! I've watched almost 3/4 of it and I can confirm it's a great one!!

Thank you for joining us & welcome!!

If you loved the comedy in those 2 dramas but you want to take it one step deeper & more serious(ish), you may want to try to watch Joy of Life (Chinese historical/political/action/comedy/sci-fi/wuxia, yes all that & more lol, and a mysterious plot that will keep you at the edge of your seat all the time!!) and Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People (Korean historical/comedy/political/drama about a gang of thieves).

Otherwise, for more cutsie-romcom centric Chinese costume dramas, you may want to check out this list of mine.

To @WandereR and the others, thank you for the great OST lists!!!

Hello, I want to join the club. I just adore historical... anything really and am looking to find great drama recommendations here. I got my eyes set on Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People and would like to start watching more Chinese historical dramas (historicaly accurate dramas, to be more exact). If you have anything that comes to mind, I would be glad to check it out. :)

Hello, I want to join the club. I just adore historical... anything really and am looking to find great drama recommendations here. I got my eyes set on Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People and would like to start watching more Chinese historical dramas (historicaly correct dramas, to be more exact). If you have anything that comes to mind, I would be glad to check it out. :)

Hi and welcome to our company!! :)

If by historically correct dramas you mean historically accurate, by the historical period and/or the people they're portraying, in almost every drama there will be a degree of departure from real history or added stuff for dramatical purposes.
But some serious Chinese historicals I can recommend that are pretty much historically accurate (at least to my knowledge, which I admit is limited) are The Story of Ming Lan, Serenade of Peaceful Joy, The Longest Day in Chang'an, and Cao Cao.
