autumn iris:
the movie version was said to be clickbaiting

Hmm, you raise a good point here. We have this strange situation with the two completely separate adaptations (movie and now series) coming out around the same time. I wasn't really considering the movie, but you raise the question: The movie also has fairly good reviews, but is it clickbait as to the gay themes? Has anyone watched it?

By "BL in the usual sense", I didn't mean guys kissing but rather the sort of idealised love story with guaranteed HEA that we usually expect from BLs. Also, if "kissed 15 guys" means that the ML is promiscuous, that's often realistic but not usually a BL thing, at least not in my mind. (As a guy, I have a lifetime of familiarity with the realities and ugly sides of the gay world, which is a big part of the appeal to me of the idealised BL world.)

Jack & Joker - episode 7

Well that was sad to watch. Good episode though.

Hoping for some happy moments next week.

I want to sleep lol

Good night guys and remember stay smutty lol

(re "Love in the Big City") I'm also feeling a certain reluctance about watching it, although I'm sure I ultimately will (when I'm in the right mood). While the reviews are great, it seems it's not BL in the usual sense but rather a drama about the harsh realities of being gay in South Korea. I'll be interested in hearing feedback from others.

Yeah. I don’t mind serious themes, but more as to what mood it ends in. Like, if it’s tragic and heatbreaking, I rather not watch it right now. If it’s realistic but uplifting, then I would be more inclined to watch.

@p43425

They said the post was too long so I couldn’t quote it.

I personally like until we meet again more, but that’s because I am more of DeanPharm person and I loved the idea of these reborn soul mates refinding each other after everything that happened  in their previous life. We really haven’t seen that plot a lot in BL done and done correctly in my opinion

But that doesn’t take away from the beauty that is between us I think between us added so much to that universe and for that couple. I think it even added to DeanPharm plotline. I also love that they did between us because UWMA needed to focus so much time on the main characters plotline because if they didn’t do that, it would have been such a disservice to the show. so I love that we got Between Us because it gave Win and Team the necessary development they needed.

Regarding the recommendations you were telling me about.

I’m excited to pick one of them to start. They all sound fun.

My feelings exactly. This is such a powerful theme - and of course, Ohm & Fluke were fantastic.

I also love "Between Us" - for the reasons you say, but also because it does a really good job of expanding on "UMWA" without too much repetition or (even worse) awkward retconning. (There are a few scenes that are glaringly taken from "UMWA", easily recognisable because Pharm's hair is so different - but that's a minor point.)

Oh ... add "Century of Love" to your PTW list right now!

There's also "Once Again" (already on your PTW list), although the ending left me unsatisfied.

"First Love Again" (which you already watched) is also a pretty good treatment of the theme (and Jeon Changha is such a cutie!) - although you're right, none gets it quite so right as "UWMA".

P.S. @Hannah: If a post is too long to quote, just quote a little piece by selecting the relevant text and clicking "Quote" right above it!

Ah, I see that's what you mean.

Because what I mean 'Love in The Big City' is 'BL' refers to Boys Love (which in mdl can be search with the keywords 'Gay Romance' on theme column); in which a man love another man, but what you mean is romanticized BL.

But sometimes the heavy-feeling BL drama could turn out fantastic and touching like 180 Degree Longitudes Passes Through Us (which is on your CW list) or Life: Senjou no Bokura. And also The Red Balloon (Tw) which is as realistic but I dropped it back then.

This doesn't work with smartphone, sadly.

Agreed - and in addition to your two excellent examples, there are some other heavier or non-HEA titles that I like and would also call "BL" (good examples: "My Bromance" original movie, "Eien no Kinou", "The Best Story"). I admit that there's a fine line for what's "BL" (by my vague definition) and what's "gay-themed drama", and I myself am not always consistent in how I apply it. Based on many Western gay-themed dramas over my lifetime (from the original "Boys in the Band" through the AIDS era, to "Brokeback Mountain" more recently), what most of them have in common is that they leave me feeling depressed.

Day 22. What were your favorite school subjects?

English basically. But I didn't go past B2 level for it, and now I doubt I'm C1. Based on how I write and speak, I'm still B2. I can't remember anything else I liked in school, other subjects were boring.

Definitely better than B2. You write better than many native speakers I know.

Is anyone here good at maths?

Day 22 ~ October Challenge

What were your favorite school subjects?

I was a drama and art kid. That shouldn't be a surprise to anyone LOL Literature and History were a close second. I also enjoyed biology to an extent but I preferred when we were studying plants. The day of the rat, the heart and the sheep lungs may have made me cry and skip lunch LOL

whats the question?

 FaeryWren:

whats the question?

I have been stuck on this question for like 10 minutes:

"Four botanists have hiked to different points in the countryside to collect plants to study. Peter is 6km due west of Josie. Lucia is 3km due north of Peter. Craig is 2km due east of Lucia. What is the bearing of Craig from Josie? Give your answer to the nearest degree."

Argh I hate maths

Also sorry guys, this is completely unrelated to BL lol

what a confusing way to ask a question. I have to draw that shit out LOL effing angles lol

so Josie is the reference point ~

Lucia 3 km north of peter ~ craig 2km east of Lucia

Peter 6km west of josie

So the angle from Craig to Josie, north direction?

So I can assume that craig is 3km from Josie north, so you just have to find the angle of a km?

I think? ..... so craig is 3km north and 4km west of josie?
