I'm actually a little disappointed by the cast. They don't seem to fully embody the physical characteristics from the anime/manga which highly reflected the characters they each played. Kyoya and Takashi are perfect, the girl and the creepy guy are ok, but the rest fall flat for me. I probably won't watch :-/
The "Prince" says something along the lines of "for those of us who are born pretty.." And I'm thinking sweetie, you are NOT pretty, but whatever rocks your boat, you are making me laugh....lol

And LOL at their fascination with "commoner's coffee".
I wanna watch this once it gets subbed (: I only got around to reading part of the manga but I haven't seen the anime yet -__-
The first episode is already subbed at DC. That's where I watched it.
Yeah I just went on there and noticed it now haha. I just watched it. I dunno, I feel a little iffy about the cast like the rest of you, but I think it'll get better with more episodes. I liked it, I haven't read the manga in a while haha, but from what I remember, the scenes they included happened in it. And agreed with Lis haha, gotta love the way they feel about "Commoner's coffee" haha.

I think the cast mostly just needs time getting used to. They might not live up to the expectations (compared to the manga), but they're not horrible either.

Maybe the reason the cast didn't bother it's because I haven't read the manga and haven't seen the anime. I just read the description and thought "This looks like fun" and decided to watch it. Like some of you, I would probably also have an adverse reaction to the cast (e.g.the cast of the YB Japanese remake ) if I had been more familiar with the characters.

And that usually tends to happen when you've read or seen the original version. But dramas are supposed to be different than the manga/anime, it's what sets them apart. It might not be as good as the original (I never got around to finishing the manga or watching the anime, so I'm only partially familiar with it), but it doesn't hurt to watch it and give it a shot, it might turn out to still be pretty good (:
Yes, you are right. I think the drama will be good... I enjoyed the first episode

I think it'll be good, too. I liked the first episode, too. I wonder how many episodes they'll have for it, seems to be a shorter drama (only about 25 mins for the first episode).

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Hahaha seriously. I think what distinguishes this from many manga and anime that become live action dramas is that the entire premise of this storyline lies in the physical appearance of these guys. (of course it's not alone in this...who would've bought into live action Death Note if the Shinigami were portrayed by short men in costumes?)

1. We (the audience) have to buy into the idea that they are so hot/cool that they can get away with all their antics, that girls will become obsessed with them, etc. Regardless of the host club member, he must first and foremost be magnetically attractive to a large segment of the population.

2. In this drama, the characters all play characters that are primarily based upon their physical characteristics/appearance. The host characters that many of the club members create are inseparable from their bodies. They change their attitudes/personalities to fit a role determined by their physical appearance (twinness, cuteness, strong&silent type, sickeningly beautiful hafu/double, nerdy, aloof). This means that some of the characters can be portrayed by a wider range of actors, while some of them have roles that are largely determined by their innate physical characteristics.

That said, of course everyone in the cast is better looking than the average person because they are professional actors.
It didn't do well in the ratings either, getting only 01.1%. That's bad even for a midnight time slot.

First ep was AWESOME! IMO. It totally lived up to my expectations. I've been wanting another hyper fun loving drama like this for a while now. I never saw the anime, so I don't know how it compares, but I can't wait to see the rest. It sucks that I have to wait a week, especially when eps are only 25 minutes long. Also, I didn't expect them to find out shes a girl the first episode. And the prince being in love with her is hilarious!
So i watched 2 eps and i have to say... THIS IS A BOMB! As a lots of you, had also had many doubts. But this drama just smashed them off! :D
It was like watching the anime, or rading manga. I had this same great feeling. It wasnt awkward, just funny and cute. Gosh Im soooo happy right now that it is a good adaptation. I really didnt like Perfect Girl Evolution drama (even though i love anime and manga). but this is something very very very different!
It's subbed already?
