I really hope they keep some stuff from the other versions of Hana kimi. Like for an example, the doctor being gay and Kayashima the ghost guy. Imo its just small things that...belongs to hana kimi. Like they just need to be there. Otherwise I just feel like Im watching another (generally good) drama about a girl who pretends to be a boy.
I actually think this is an okay drama so far.
I wanna stop comparing it to the other versions because it is attempting to find its own feet and I respect that.
It's like a cover of a good song...sometimes it is better to like the song as a completely different song instead of constantly thinking of it as a cover.
I obviously loved the other versions tons...but I wanna find something about this version that I could possibly love. Gonna give myself a chance to find that.
So far? At least Minho's Sano is less of an emo moody jerk like Oguri Shun. They are attempting to give us a back story and a reason for his frustration in this version. I just hope that the 'love story' doesn't have to be explained the way the J-drama version had to. Remember the special where Nakatsu had to pretty much spell out 'at what point Sano fell for her'? In this version...I wanna see him fall for her.
If this version can do that....then that would be the thing that sets it apart from the J-drama version.
I'm enjoying this much more than the manga and Taiwanese versions, never picked up the Japanese one. This is the first time I've watched a drama as it comes out. It's been really fun, and I'm loving the music. On the whole doctor subject, I don't really get the whole "he can tell because he's gay" thing. She's supposedly able to convince everyone else, so the only reason he should be able to tell is if he analyzes the most minute differences in facial features/physiques of the different sexes which =/= gay.

Exactly how I feel. I love how they are attempting to make the drama their own with more back story to give a legimate reason for his not jumping. I have high expectation for the love line precisely because Tae Joon has more emotion then Sano did and he interacts more with Jae Hee then in previous versions....it doesn't hurt that's he's freaking adorable either.

I know! He actually looks like he has a ton of stuff to deal with from grief and daddy issues to performance pressure. All this stuff which makes us care about the character more than we did about Oguri Shun's version (Personally I'm still trying to work out why she even liked him! I mean hellooooo Nakatsu??? Oguri Shun's version just looked permanently stoned in my opinion instead of genuinely broken up about stuff.)
And yeah, they are in each other's face loads. So I really do think we're gonna get a proper love story between the leads this adaptation. But fingers crossed. Still early days.

YES! I could never understand her obessession with Mr. Expressionless either especially when sweet little Shuichi was all "You're a boy? Who cares! Loves conquers all!". I really do feel like this version will have more substance. One thing I'm reeeaaaalllly hoping is different is her reasons for going to his school as a boy. I don't hate the fact that her love for him prompted her to go to such extremes in the other versions but it's a bit stalkerish. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if that's part of her reason in this one but I never saw it as motivation enough and I wish they would expand on it and give it more of a back story instead of "I love him, I must go".
Episode 2 was daebak! I really loved that kiss scene and how they did it in this version. Also, Eun Gyeol is becoming my favorite character--as if I wasn't already in love with both Nakatsus (sorry HK2011 haters) and Xiu Yi--now I have another!!! He's so adorable, and the scene with him answering the phone during the middle of the soccer match--I cracked up. It's such a goofy thing to do, but it totally fits the character. :D
I have only seen the first episode, but it was alright. I'm trying to watch it as it's own show, but all I could think about was "this version is pretty good so far, but the 2007 J version is better!" I'm here hoping they keep the nurse gay (doubt it will happen, as Korea is pretty stupid when it comes to homosexuality), having the psychic kid, and Oscar being fabulous. I don't know how much that stuff is from the manga, but it's little things that grew inseparable from me.
(As learning Korean names is hard for me) Sano seems so freakin' moody. At least he has more reasons as to why (e.g. family pressure), but so did the 2007 version Sano! And they really changed Nakatsu's personality. He seems like the nice guy who treats the girl like a human being who will be dumped for the jackass (Sano). I hope it doesn't end up that way, but this show IS directed from the BoF guy. I'm still kinda mad that Nakatsu isn't a goofball.
Then there's Sulli. At the moment, she is worse than the saesang fans after Sano. She is lying about her gender in order to go to school with the guy! That's freakin crazy; I can't forgive that. Unless she has a legitimate reason, like he got injured protecting her, I will see her as the stalkery heroine from Playful Kiss. She is just another saesang until then. And she doesn't even TRY to act like a girl acting boyish! The episode made her seem really feminine, which is bad for trying to pass for a boy. Then there's the fact that a color-blind stylist gave Sulli hot pink lipstick. Just... it was so painfully obvious...
But I LOVE the cinematography! The 2007 version looks like a ghetto school compared to this school! It's so stylish and colorful; I found myself wishing I could live there. It's the biggest reason I'm watching the next episode. Then there's me hoping to see Kris's character XD

i've never seen any other version but i'm still not overly fond of this.
i am REALLY starting to wonder what it is koreans find so appealing about pathetic girls. seriously in the 68 dramas and 22 movies i've seen i can only name a handful of competent intelligent and "attractive" female leads. i put attractive in quotes b/c dramas are forever saying a girl isnt pretty when she is. and if she's characterized as attractive she can only have one of the other traits. if by some miracle of the drama gods she IS all those things she almost always has some sort of wicked personality defect like she's a total "B".
if it were just an archetype used as often as any other it wouldnt bother me so much but the bumbling self deprecating ocassional stalker chick is such a fixture it's becoming sad.
i can only hope that w/in the first few episodes the female lead of this one locates her ovaries and stops humiliating herself over some dude who is sooo not worth it, b/c really who is?

i dont mind the main actress that much, with my experience of the T version actress i would watch this girl anyday

I think you are too harsh on Mizuki's character.
I like my strong female characters very-very much, actually, I don't like the plot that much if I don't like the female character. Mizuki is one of my favourite female characters, as, however she's portrayed on the screen and even in the manga, I think you need to be half crazy and very willful to enroll into an all-boys school just to become a complete stranger's (whom you have only seen on the screen) strength and hope, not get disappointed, as he is not that perfect as you saw him when he had his wings... and we don't even know the back-story of this version, as in the Japanese drama, she was the cause he had the trauma, in the manga, she had nothing to do with it, but admired him so much that was eager to turn her life upside down.
I respect her, as she doesn't enroll, because she is in love with him, she doesn't enroll to admire his face every day... she goes there, and at times sacrificing her own pride, pushes him forward, even when in the beginning she gets treated not very nicely by him, she then becomes his power as he falls in love with her, as he admires her will and boldness in her goals, and then he becomes her power and hope something new for herself, as later she falls in love with him, I think she deserves respect and love.
Though the manga and the drama have all this dipped in sweet humor, I think the characters here really deserve respect and love.
When the announcement came out (that there would be a korean Hana Kimi version starring SM artists) I was pretty worried because I am a shawol and It would be SO difficult to see Minho kissing another girl because I had seen the Japanese one so It was pretty obvious. However in the beginning I started to not like Sulli that much xD Because I was just so jealous,I admit it.But now that I have seen the 3 first episodes,I am starting to like her somehow, because you know, you can't hate her o.o
Also what makes me laugh is that the main female character reminds me of sasaeng fans. xD It's because of the fact that she disguises herself as a guy and attend a school with only boys in order to be close to her idol(Actually she went there to encourage him so that he would start -i don't know how they call it- jumping)
Anyway I wish the best for this drama~
