And what are you thinking so far?
hmmm that's a tough one, I want to beat the crap out of a couple of peeps, I feel bad for a couple of people, but overall I am totally loving it, my hubby thinks I am nuts cause I am yelling at the tv. I am really really impressed by Song Joong Ki's acting, this is the first time I would consider him a lead in a drama, and he isn't disappointing. Oh, and I LOVE most of the kissing scene's... I am currently about 20 min into the 8th episode...

the problem is not with song joongki, i love his acting. but the story is slowly tiring me. what a waste of SJK's talent. im still hoping they will give us a better episode next week.

high five! That look made me drool :D

You may not want to get your hopes high Jeani unni, it may be a mess later.
Now back to the drama, ep 10 dragged as really dragged except some light near the ending but i have to admit a guilt feeling that i have : Yes, this drama isn't that great but i am being superficial and liking it because of Joong Ki and yes there's Attorney Park; he's just too great! The subjective me rules while watching this drama !!
I've watched 8 episodes in 2 days, so I suppose I can say I'm hooked too. However, the drama's a mess of cosmic proportions and the one and only reason I'm still watching this is Joong Ki. To elaborate: I hate basically all the characters - bar Lawyer Park and glimpses of Choco. I don't even like Maru, I simply drool like a possessed over his looks, the kind of unhealthy love created by hormones.
What follows may be spoilerish, so please only read if you've come to at least episode 8 like me.
1. What are all those mysterious illnesses going around? Would it be too hard on the part of the writer to ONCE give us a scientific name?
-The old man is sick and needs a transplant. Whatever he has, I hope he kicks the bucket soon and in the most horrible way.
-His daughter is sick with some heart malfunctioning, but once again we are kept in the dark. Heart deficiency in your 20ies? Wow, I'd say SHE needs a transplant, not the old fogey.
-Choco is sick and can't stand in the rain (hmmm, I'd call it K-drama desease), however she stands in the rain at every possible chance.
-Second Madame is sick in the head as well as in the back. For once we have an idea why, thanks god.
-Maru isn't sick (not clinically, at least), which I'm afraid will not prevent his premature departure, if this keeps on.
2. The revenge plot.
I wonder if any of you watched Bad Guy. I mention it, because while watching this drama I'm reminded of Bad Guy more often than not (even the title is somehow reminiscent of it). Now, there the guy truly had a plan. A meticulous, well studied one, which made the whole revenge plot a lot more believable, regardless of the outcome and the possible obstacles he would find on his path.
Here we have... murderous looks. While I am more than happy to watch - and again drool over - Joong Ki's expression changing from caring to freezing cold, I wish he would plan his steps a little more carefully.
He hears Jae Hee's brother is back in town and goes to look for him. I was hoping for him to have an idea what to say or do, but he gets there and threatens the guy to not get near her? Wow, now that was clever... and effective. :P
3. The beating of women.
Was I the only one disturbed by the way they shot the beating of Choco's mother? The man rushes into the food court and starts shouting, throwing things around and beating her. The people there simply run away, Maru stands there for a while watching and only intervenes when he wants to finish her with a chair (he must be a fan of wrestling). Eun Gi isn't even shouting, or calling the police or anything.
Jae Hee's being beaten was even worse, but I understand it's consistent with the plot and is needed to define her character.
I KNOW this is melodrama world, but I am disgusted nonetheless.
The drama sure is intense and the kisses are short of great (added bonus). But I must say there are moments the thing gets so overly dramatic I'm tempted to laugh.

I won't quote you Rita (too long), i will just adress you ^^
That was some interesting point of view, you're right about diseases and K-drama disease cracked me :D That's the freaky world of melodramas: The hospital is a must! You need to watch ep 9-10 and you will find out about Ma Ru's disease.
Like i told you before, i am like you i can't get through the melodrama element, to tell the truth i never liked melodramas simply because they fail to make me cry (except in some cases), melodramas don't touch me and i believe this is far beyond a melodrama and yes i am being subjective because of Joong Ki, i just like to see him all over the place.
I always complained about the revenge plot. I haven't seen Bad Guy but this isn't the strong plot that would make you jump off your seat plus i am sure you noticed that Ma Ru still have feelings for that stupid woman just like nothing happened. Maybe, it will chage starting episode 11 but i wouldn't call this a revenge drama, it's really weak compared to other dramas of the same genre.

Yours isn't too long, so I quote you: I need to. :D
What? Ma Ru's illness? Are you telling me he's sick too? Can I laugh?
I totally agree with you on the non-empathy. The ancient dramatists had very well defined those plot devices capable of stirring the audience's emotions. Climax and anti-climax are the most important factors of all. If the whole drama is played over the line, a step ahead won't even be noticed. A horror film is scary only when the monster appears out of the blue, a love story is romantic when there are moments of realisation, a drama is tragic when on a sunny day comes the earthquake. But if we have a storm all the time, a lightning more or less leaves me quite cold.
There is no true respite in this drama, which renders me insensitive to the destiny of these characters. As I see it, they are all more or less doomed, so I'm just waiting for the next step they take towards their distruction.
Perhaps I sound overly critic, and I apologize for this. As I said, I AM hooked, but not at all for the right reasons. :(
So many words up there... LOL
I actually am starting 8 right now. and I am invested in the main pair. I care about them and what happens. I am doubtful though because I watched I'm Sorry, I Love You and this drama comes from that writer.
I want Ma Ru to have some redemption and freedom from the weird hold and flimsy connection to Jae Hee that is all in his mind...
I could break this Melodrama/Makjang down to it's barest bones and pick it apart like a Hyena after a religious fast. But it comes down to one question ultimately... Even with it's flaws am I enjoying watching? The answer is yes. Is Song Joong Ki is a good actor and does he give good Face? Oh Yes. But I knew what to expect going into this drama because again, the writer is the same person who wrote I'm Sorry, I Love You. I knew I was going to get selfish rich chaebols who think they own the world. I knew I was going to get tortured anti-hero that I sympathized with but wasn't sure why. I knew I was going to get those annoying moments of heroic sacrifice or 'Lets just destroy each other' or even the 'I am on this evil path and my evil has been discovered but I can't stop now'. Korean melo formula 101.
I still like this for more than Song Joong Ki though... and p.s..I am in NO WAY shallow and SJK has a really cute bum... OMO! so cute!
