He's already going to be hurt that she is dying and started a relationship with him...Hopefully it will lessen his bitterness that she tried to do the honorable thing (in her eyes) and separate him from her suffering. Not that I think the knowledge of her having cancer will end their connection but maybe after he's pieced everything together...and he's thought about it, he will understand her a little better and make their coming back together faster. They both need their remaining time together to start NOW. I'm holding out for a miracle and I know this show is going to bring on the hurt. This is more painful than 49 days! GAH!
That does make sense, maybe he could be more forgiving towards her that she tried to give him the lesser of two evils. I'm already preparing myself for the end. But who knows maybe they'll bring out one of the "magical-drama- can-even-cure-cancer-that's-already-spreading" kind of things. Which to be honest wouldn't sit that well with me.
Episode 11 [SPOILERS] - One thing that I love is how Mr. Doctor seems human now, he's in love with Yeon Jae and I love how he tries to cheer her up (: Ohh and how he started dancing in the middle of the empty hallway was cute! Haha. I hate how the drama has taken the turn where her and Ji Wook are "broke up." I want her to be by her side, I love the doctor but I want her to be with Ji Wook. The ending of this episode makes me sad, I've watched enough dramas to know that it's not the end of them, but they need to make up soon! I want him to say "It doesn't matter if you don't want me by your side - I'm going to be there anyways" or something along those lines. I know she's just trying to protect him, but either way he gets hurt - and if he sticks by her side she can enjoy the last moments of her life and that's something that he wouldn't regret. I think it was msrules who mentioned before that as much as we love our main character - she was being selfish by making him fall in love with her while she's dying. This episode was about that.
I don't want him to end up with Sae Kyung, and I wonder what she's going to act like when she finds out that Yeon Jae has cancer. As always - can't wait for the next episode!

Btw, Rita mentioned it before me. Just saying, credit where credit is due. :p
Just got done with episode 12 [------SPOILERS!!!!!!!------] :
This episode had me so frustrated! More so than being sad or sorry for her. First off - she really just needs to tell her mom that she's sick! I hate seeing her mom yell at her and throw marriage in her face because she doesn't know her daughter is on borrowed time. She's going to have to find out sooner or later, and I think she should've told her already.
Second - Ji Wook is also making me mad, when he went to find her and then called Eun Sook to take her home. He wants to be with her, she wants to spend her days with him but they keep trying to push themselves away.
Doctor - you're about the only character I'm really liking at the moment, and I feel bad for him that he's in love with Yeon Jae, but I'm happy to see he's changing into a better doctor and someone his patients appreciate. [Although I'd like to know how he got Ji Wook's number, or why he has it. Did he memorize it off of Yeon Jae's phone when he answered that time or something?]
I do feel bad that her best friend not only got married, but is also pregnant. To watch that and know that it's something that you're never going to experience - it's gotta be difficult.
The ending of this episode had me going "Wth?!?!" I think the concept is supposed to be that he loves her so much he's willing to die for her, but a car accident? O__O And a cliffhanger that makes you wait a week to see what happens! Aish...need the next episode now! He better be okay and they better make up!!!

I actually think the message of that last scene is a little different: life can end any moment, for everyone. She counts her days knowing more or less when her end will come, but even the healthiest person on this planet can die the next minute. Life is short for everyone, there's no guarantee whatsoever that he will live another 50 years, as she once hinted. I think this accident serves this purpose: opening her eyes on the fragility of his life, as well as hers. I like that they chose this way to bring them back together.
Not to talk about the fact that the guy is suffering a lot more than she could envision. He's not only plagued by the whole love/dying/no time thing, but also by the guilt which invariably accompanies a choice like the one they made to split.
I honestly think that, although her condition is a terrible one, the few months since she learned of the cancer have been the best she ever had. Had she gone on living like any average person, "healthy", she would have wasted years living like an invisible mouse (which calls for the old question: quality or quantity?).
I said elsewhere that I believe he's going to ask her to marry him.

The last few episodes have been very dramatic and emotional but I believe it's been handled in a pretty realistic way. There has been anger, resentment, hard choices, selfishness and selflessness. I love that they had Ji Wook struggle with bitterness and the very hard question of whether or not he could handle or even wanted to handle the knowledge of Yeon Jae's death and the question of continuing on with her. I also love that his love for her seems to be overpowering (but not completely conquering) those difficulties. It feels very real that anyone would experience these feelings of fear, anger, resentment and sheer panic. I can imagine that I would myself. In Yeon Jae's case, it feels like she's experiencing the 7 stages of grief regarding her own life and death. She's been through the shock, the guilt, the bargaining, the anger, the depression...now it's time for her upward turn!!! I'm ready for the end of episode 12 to mark this change and bring them together and I agree with everything in your post! It is time for Yeon Jae to let Ji Wook back into her heart and take the love he so desperately wants to give her. I think he's going to ask her to marry him as well. I love this show but it's painful to watch.
also...a lot of folks out there are of the opinion they don't want the drama to take the easy road and let her live. but I'm not one of them. I want a miracle! I want remission! At the very least, I want Dr. Eun Suk to tell her the chemo is working and she has more time!
Bring on LIFE! LIFE FOR YEON JAE AND JI WOOK!

Hear hear! I feel terrible to admit it, but I don't watch dramas for their realism. We have enough realism in the world as it is.
Although it can bring life to otherwise 2D characters, I always pine for that happy ending, the beautiful staccato.
The only reason I appreciate (and even admire) sad endings is because it makes a drama more memorable.
So a happy ending or unhappy ending?

Amrita, you 'stole' the word from the bottom of my heart... What you say in this comment is so right for me. I was feeling the exact same thing the moment of the accident... I was talking to Youn Jae and told her "You're counting your days, you see? BAM... and the person is gone..."
Our lives are so fragile and unpredictable, the human being can't guarantee his tomorrow...
This drama is giving me so much tears and heartache... My heart really beats faster during every of Youn Jae's hard time (it's almost every second of the drama), every romantic and passionate moment (I loved the way they rode the bicycle)...
A very emotional drama, I did good to start it... I am loving it, though I am almost sure I am going to weep rivers in the end (I'm remembering one of her wishes 'To close my eyes in my loved ones hands')...

I DO love tragedies, I believe some of the most beautiful and poignant love stories ever had a sad ending. But I also agree that we are not gathered here to be reminded of reality. I would welcome a miracle too, if not for the absurdity of having defined this drama a romantic comedy. Really, they must have drank a lot of soju before writing the details for the show. :P
This said, I can cope with a sad ending if they finally make her snap out of her misery and let her live whatever time she has left joyfully and with due passion, fully. What is the ultimate sense of your last months lived welling in self-pity?
I can't stand shows whose ultimate message is a mere "that's life". This is what I blame 49 days for and till now I maintain it was a needlessly pathetic drama, not because it ended with a death, but because it made no narrative sense - sorry for bringing up a comparison, but it was mentioned before and I couldn't help do it myself.
So, whatever the ending, I hope for this drama to have a bit of a deeper purpose than a trite "life is cruel, that's reality".

I fear her wish to close her eyes in his arms will be fullfilled, but we can still hope, can't we?
I too watch it every week knowing my heart is going to stop every other minute. There's an intensity... an urgency in it which keeps me glued to the screen despite the sadness.
One more reason to hope for this accident to mark a sort of shift and make her realize that, since he's madly in love with her and there's no going back now, living apart these last months would be senseless. If we have to cry in the end, let's at least have the fireworks before that.
:)
Aaaaaggggghhh why are these parents & Sae Kyung so damn annoying and no manners. Is there some made up rule that says rich people should never be polite, always slapping people & throwing water in their faces. Shheessh.
I think this is the first drama i've seen other than I Need Romance where the characters having sex was implied.

Revy, have you seen Coffee Prince? That was a drama where the sex was most definitely more than implied. and done in a very cute way too!
This drama is becoming one where even though Ji Wook's Dad and Sae Kyung are particularly clueless, cruel and annoying, I find it so easy to ignore them. When Ji Wook and Yeon Jae are together it's kind of magical. I love how Ji Wook has come out swinging, so to speak, in his love for Yeon Jae. Best boyfriend ever!
