at ep 9 now i sometimes love their( seong seng n ko hwa jung ) scenes more than the main leads
so far this drama is different from regular cliched k dramas... that doesn't mean this drama is non cliched at all ... but the relationship between the main leads is not a common one we see usually in k dramas... what they say before each other n think in their hearts is so different ..n they seem to understand each other so well that they realize the hidden intentions or feelings behind each other's actions ... may be they can do that becoz they were together before... but on the other hand ... it does not make sense even more why did they got seperated first ?? anyway this drama keeps me glued no matter what

They separated because Hyung Joon got the "big" head; he wanted Ji Young to (in a way) conform to what he considered "smart" or "accomplished"--that is, that she would go to college and have a successful occupation. Ji Young never wanted to attend college (whether this was completely about studying or about her background/economic level, I'm not entirely sure) and thus, to Hyung Joon, who attended one of the prestigious universities, she was just another not-"smart" person.
It may not make a lot of logical sense in terms of how we think, and I'm certainly not defending Hyung Joon's attitude toward Ji Young in that regard, but I think Hyung Joon acted a bit in self-preservation. He thought that being with Ji Young would possibly make him "less" to his classmates. It's a stupid thought, but when has Hyung Joon (up until that point) been completely selfless. I think that even now, he's not completely selfless, though I think he understands that he made a huge mistake.
Episode 13 was daebak! It was very moving, and yet, I know we're still in the building stages. OMG, the end! *I cried when they tried to give Ji Young the rose, then took it back and gave it to the girl next to her! How heartless are these people. I hope her and Jae Hee fight back (along with Manager Ma and Hyung Joon). It's time to sic these judges and all of their scheming, lying, cheating arses!*
I've been enjoying this drama since it aired, it started out so funny but it has gotten a little more serious and character driven. The leads are facing hardships other than love. At first it was a trust vs being used issue then to the body image issue. It hits on so many points that are not regularly done in dramas or is taboo in Asia. The lead isn't some sweet, wide eyed, pretty girl; shes strong and stands up to everyone..but she chooses her battles. I knew it wouldn't beat My Love from Another Star in ratings but i would recommend it.

I agree, he was in a new environment with "smart" people all around him. He wanted to study and graduate while Ji Young still wanted to play. I thought that his infatuation with her had ended and he was embarrassed or annoyed but when he went back to apologize she was too mad to want him back..rightfully so. But now that they have both matured they realize their mistake, she is driven, and he is endlessly caring always doing something to ensure everyone else is okay first. i love their memory scenes the one where they were getting warm by the heater in her families shop ohhh daebak!! i watched it so many times.
Episode 14 was an awesome episode! It's fun yet very uplifting. It's like an episode full of goodies scenes! The performances, the supportive all-men family of Oh Ji Young, the endearing bond within Vivi's team, the cute couple of Teacher Jang and Dr.Ko and of course Ji Young-Hyung Joon moments, I can't just can't get enough of them, they all shined in this episode. Of course there's something fishy going on, I wonder when will Yoo stop? Ji Young had always been honest on her feelings then why can't he accept it? He's also even not playing fair here if his reason was to win her heart. Overall, still a joyful episode, some songs were nostalgic to hear.

I agree with everything you've said here. I described it as having a happy feeling twinged with an ominous feeling. The episode was so heartwarming; my favorite scene was Ji Young seeing her "Mom" and family cheer her on before going on stage. I just love her family. They may not have been supportive at first, but they'll be damned if their baby doesn't win now...so sweet! Teacher Jang and Dr. Ko are the cutest and Ji Young-Hyung Joon are really powerful together.
Yoon is a terrible person. I agree; how he expects to "win (ugh)" her over by screwing over the one person who she cares for most? It's really disgusting how possessive he is; he would ruin a company just to get what he wants (even when he'll never get it), and what will he do when he doesn't get it. Jung Seon Saeng said it best when he called him "pathetic." I think I hate Yoon more than Bada Cosmetics right now; at least one knows that Bada is a nasty piece of work. Yoon is like the popular girls in high school; sort of nice to your face, then downright awful to you behind your back.
Oh, and the music. I loved hearing the music in this episode. I was totally bouncing up and down to the songs!

Yeah, and it's more like Bada cosmetics do things because of competition with Vivi while Yoon do things because of personal reasons.
So just watched episode 15, spoilers if anyone hasn't:
So she won.
But I feel, bc it is a drama after all, she will be disqualified bc she turned 26.
So, what's next for this drama? I love that I can't predict it.
Obviously, company issues and the whole BB Cream dilemma.
Is this whole drama going to be centered in the 90's up until the end? I hope it's a happy ending.
What type of karma are the bad guys going to get?
I love that the second female lead isn't mean-- she has her own drama on the side. I hope her dad begs for her forgiveness for denying he had a daughter. I want her to have a happy ending too.
i really like oh ji young's family specially "mom" (father) he is so understanding and humble .. when most of the family are against the pageant he is the one who tries to understand her reasons for choosing to do so...
thanks yankumicho for explaining why those two separated and it was explained in later episodes
waiting to see how they will win n what other obstacles n hardships they will overcome on the way
I've been thinking about what's to come as well. The ending of 15 was a bit confusing, and I think that was intentional. It's probably setting us up for something big (Locurabella, I'm wondering about the age thing too. This show isn't one to make small comments then forget about them, yet wouldn't they have done that earlier, especially before selecting the fifteen?).
I'm definitely expecting the remaining episodes to deal with the aftermath of the competition and recouping ViVi from the baddies. About the timeline (though of course this is just how I see it), I don't think we're going to go into the present much or at all. I think they'll stay in the 97-98 timeline (since it's December '97 as of now).
I agree; I like that we don't know how it's going to end, especially now that the competition is practically over. It makes for some interesting time left ahead. I find the choice to end the competition with 5 episodes remaining an interesting one; it takes this show out of typical rom-com territory (not that it's ever really been in it) and gives it a new flavor. It's a flavor I like.

Yup, episode 16 was just a bummer. Her happiness drowned bc of the others misery.
So those are stupid rules about being crowned...can't have a bf? Utter BS.
I knew her age would come into effect. I hope she stays queen. It's not her fault the pageant was rigged; thus, why it was delayed.
I'm optimistic that other companies will not get the BB Cream but I'm pessimistic on the leads relationship; he really ought to get rid of his pride. The woman loves him and has proven it to him.
We'll see what the other 4 episodes bring. A storm has to hit before calm waters.
Malory wrote: But Hyung Joon should never have to get rid of his pride. You strip a man off his pride and he won't be able to stand strong next to his woman. I don't want Hyung Joon reduced to being Ji Young's manager either. This show had better treat his character right.
i agree whole heartily, i dont want him to be stuck as her manager either. She doesnt want him to have that role but he seems to be taking it in strides, i really love those two together.
