Really, abs, your account is almost better than the drama itself - which I loved.
It's fantastic to rewatch something, knowing what's going to happen and yet see it all through the eyes of someone else, isn't it? It's like watching a well known view with someone and recognize the beauty we give for granted.
That was a lovely summarize and I read it with great pleasure. Thanks a lot! :D

Fanx! I worry sometimes that I go on too long, but I'm really enjoying writing them - so don't seem to be able to stop!! I'm glad you liked reading it, that's made my day!

I wonder if one day we are going to see them become members of an asian drama discussion forum! ;)

ah ha ha. I will certainly tell them! They know I've been posting their experience on here, and mum thinks that's really fun. I doubt whether she'll make it into a forum though - she doesn't really 'do' computers, neither of them even have a facebook account. My dad wouldn't even consider it, I don't think - but I'll work on mum . . . . we'd have to have a thread for older actors - just for her! ha ;)

Sounds like a plan to me. lol :D
big big love!!! Thanks Abs. Monday rolled around...then Tuesday passed by and I thought...Where is our update? So by Wednesday I started to feel a little like I did when City Hunter was airing and I was waiting for subs! Where is Abs with her update? I asked myself...
Thanks for posting. Your parents are great! I love how they have to watch 2 episodes now! hahaha! It's very addicting. Our lost City Hunter thread couldn't have been revived in a better way~ This is awesome. Thank your Parents for us!
Also...Would your dad be willing to watch any Rom Coms or should we stick with action for the recommendations?

Thanks Jeanie! I honestly didn't realise that people were that bothered about it - it's so nice to hear that it's anticipated even - I'm really quite chuffed! ^^
Yeah, my dad's up for pretty much anything - he watched mulan (the chinese live action version) with me on holiday, and we both cried our way through the sad parts. My mum traditionally has been the more difficult to please. I'm actually really quite surprised at how much she's enjoyed the comedy side, as with 'normal' TV she really doesn't like to mix funny with serious. She asked me if 'Yoon Sung' had been in anything else the other day, so I reckon she'd be up for giving Lee Min Ho more watching. Both of them really like action/thrillers. She really doesn't want to watch something that will make her cry lots - so I might have to ease her in gently as I really want to work my way up to Bad Guy - which I adore - but I think there's too much crying for her right now. I don't want to put her off as we're doing so well!!
Ideas???
My Recommendations for your parents: I'm going to stick with Dramafever (commercials) and Viki (No Commercials) as my source because you can watch without breaks/segmentation.
Chuno - 24 eps. It's a Sauguk but it's not wrappped up in to much politics and it's easy to follow. Cool Action and Adventure and some romance. Exciting and well acted.
Coffee Prince - It's heavy on Rom, lighter on Com but it has a very realistic feel, great acting, eclectic music and great atmosphere. It's very well done. They may just love it!?
The City Hall - A mature love story set in the world of politics...But don't let the politics scare you off...They keep it simple, balance all the drama with a lot of charm and comedy. There is a love story and it is told very very well. Kim Sun Ah is wonderful. The chemistry is amazing.
I recommend Personal Taste rather than Boys Over Flowers if they want to stick with Lee Min Ho. Both more suited to women then men and while it isn't perfect, Personal Taste is much more mature, shorter, more cohesive and the love story is very sweet.
Hong Gil Dong is a lot of fun! And if they decide they want to watch something amazingly smartly written, intense, adventurous and fueled by revenge...Try to find somewhere you can watch "A Man's Story" with Park Young Ah.

Thanks for the recommendations!
I've seen 3 of those, city hall is a good thought, slightly older cast, twists and turns, good point well made. As dad is working away from home now, and mum ending up with more time on her hands, I might suggest 2, one we watch all together and one just mum and I watch.^^
Am thinking about shinzanmono for all of us (it reminded me of Columbo, so I think they'll love it), and will get the summaries of all the recommendations and let mum pick for us!

the next episode . . . . dun dun daaaaaarrrrrrr
Another Sunday afternoon rolls around, and I get a phone call from dad 'hi abs - we're on our way round now!!' So, it's time to pop the kettle on, and ready the episode! Once settled on the sofa with their cups of tea - and the promise of food once we've finished the first of our (now customary) two episodes, we roll straight into episode 11 - we're over the half-way point!
NN's grabbed YS to save him from being seen by the prosecutor, and dad's all excited cause now they'll end working together instead of bickering at each other. As they're leaving, and YS's walking NN away, mum pipes up 'awhh look, he's holding her hand, that's so sweet' but during the altercation that follows, mum gets really angry that he's still being mean to her - pushing her away. Dad continues to try to explain to her that he's only pushing her away because it's the only way he can protect her - but mum continues to cluck that she doesn't like it, and there must be other options . she gets all blubbery with the sad music, and the wistfully sad shots of them alone looking into their respective mirrors. Followed by a snort and 'here he goes again - back to being horrid to her' when he shouts at her from the bench. She can't understand why YS needs to quit the Blue House, and continues to voice this opinion throughout the entire episode. My personal favourite bit of Sunday night was following the hospital scene with the prosecutor, when Jin Pyo goes to see the mum - and tell her that her son is dead. He grabs her by the shoulders and shouts [i]'CHEER UP!' and mum says 'oh, well THAT'S really going to help her cheer up' and they both start laughing - my mum starts her [hilarious] impression of Jin Pyo, and dad starts laughing at her 'well, clearly that's where I've been going wrong all these years!' he then proceeds to grab mums arm and shout 'CHEER UP !!!', mum (who by this point is finding it hard to breathe she's laughing so hard) says 'no, no - you've got to shout it in Korean!' - I'm sat wetting myself on the next sofa â?¦. not exactly in keeping with the general mood of the episode - but oh so much fun. I am once again reminded why I'm watching with them - it's just too funny!
They comment that this episode is a lot more serious than the ones so far, with Jin Pyo turning really mean - and the mum going missing - and the constant threats to kill anyone who gets in the way of Jin Pyo's revenge. At every available opportunity dad keeps saying how well it's written, and that the human emotions being brought to bare is exceptional. How each character is seemingly put in an impossible position - they are both really excited to watch it unfold, and are total Kdrama converts.
When the prosecutor and he dad have exchanges about 'the taste of power' mum and dad both agree with the prosecutor that he is totally different to his father 'from his bones out'. The revelation [to NN anyway] that the prosecutor is DD-long-legs is a good thing - NNs doing well this episode (well, apart from her run-ins with YS), she finds out about DDLL & ajussi (and the fact that he's really not a bad guy, just manipulated). They are really beginning to real sorry for the prosecutor, and have high hopes that he will go against his dad, join the CH, and 'win at the end' > ::weep:: <
When NN & ajussi wake up in the prosecutor's dads house, mum as ever can not wait for YS to come swooping in to save the day! and as promised, the music changes, and YS walks into the house as if it's his own. ACE. It's all manner of bad news when he's drugged, and then unable to fight - and
::GASP:: NN's been shot!!!
mum: she's not dead is she ? >looks directly at me<
me: I am not telling you - I had to wait entire week - you just have to wait half an hour while I pull together our dinner.
mum - to dad: she's not dead. she can't be dead.
dad: she's dead.
mum: no! no! I'm not listening, she can't be dead, I wont allow it!
dad: she's dead.
mum: STOP SAYING THAT! SHE CAN'T BE DEAD!
dad: she's dead - they've killed her off like marie (another Bourne reference), this way YS will be focussed on revenge, she's dead. absolutely
mum: [i]la la la la la la la la la la la
meanwhile - in the kitchen, there is me, trying not to give anything away.
> insert mum and dad having a full on debate about NNs death here < until FINALLY the food is ready, in bowls (so they can eat and watch) - and we're ready to find out who is right - will mum be taking home the 'I told you so' trophy or dad?!
-episode 12-
mum leans forward in excited anticipation of finding out the truth, and comments that she will never EVER watch a drama 'live' - because there is no way on earth she would be able to wait a week between episodes.
Of COURSE she's not dead! she crows as NN is carried into the vet, and 'oh just hold her hand' she urges YS as NN's hand floats above his. The fan-girl squeal of delight I'm sure can be heard by my neighbours, as he takes hold of her hand gently. (which makes my dad laugh - and get's an angry 'shhhhhh' in response) mum and I both 'awhhhh' our way through him holding her hand, talking with ajussi - we have both totally fallen for him (me, for the second time). Mum is inordinately pleased that he's taken her into his house, it's about time really. YaY for them finding the bug - and then revelation we've all been waiting for, for YS to find out the TRUTH! It's such a shame 'I didn't want to live like this!', 'Even if I die, I will never forgive you?' awwwhhh, our hearts break as we watch his heart break in front of our eyes. And Jin Pyo is so cold, they are 100% behind YS - and cheer him on to protect those he love. 'This is my last warning, father' is met with 'owwh, good for you' If my mum could have stormed in and shouted at Jin Pyo that moment - she absolutely would have.
I'm reminded that mum doesn't know ANY of the drama 'standards' when, as YS grabs NNs wrist from behind, she squeees and says 'oh, that's so lovely!!!!' (not that I have become jaded, but I almost expect to see that shot at least once in any given drama). They really like the sequence of YS & NN - when he holds her, and rests his head on her shoulder, they both think it's one of the most beautiful things they've seen for a long time. and I can't help but agree with them. Mum declares that this is her 3rd favourite sequence of the entire series. (#1 - the kiss, #2 - YS steals baddies hat on the stairs - then beats the crap out of him)
They love that NNs getting help YS now - it is high time after all. mum thinks ajussi is brilliant! the whole thing with him fancying the other bodyguard is really funny! - and YS's wink well - there are no words. but those trousers (black and white print) are horrible! I had totally forgotten the hair-washing bit, and we all enjoyed that - although mum was like 'what, do they not have shampoo in Korea? what's with the bar of soap??'
They are totally disappointed, albeit not surprised, that the prosecutors dad is such a taker - and especially YS's mum's money, but they feel desperately sorry for the prosecutor. they do no doubt though that he will do what's right, and not what is in his dad's best interest. They figured that a switch-a-roo was pulled on the truck with the money (well, DAD did - the moment Jin Pyo started to drive along side, mum didn't see it coming) - when I told mum I'd seen an out-take of a bit of the ep on youtube, she made me promise to show her how to find it!
They left in a whirlwind of questions about what Jin Pyo's gonna do with NN - now?! and just what's going to happen?!
'see you next sunday!!'

sorry it's so long! I totally fail at editing down.
Do not apologize for the length! Please do not edit. I love your parents! it so fun hearing about how you sit next to them knowing full well what is going to happen and you get to watch them experience it for the first time. So fun! How do you keep your mouth shut? I think you might have to duck tape my mouth closed, I'd be so tempted to make comments as I was watching.
Have you made any suggestions to your parents yet on what they should watch next? And also...Do they know they have a mini fan club here on MDL? Ha! Thanks for the installment! Can't wait for next week...
