braincabbage:Thank you @allancarreon @anchorenomore for explaining the plan with having Por kill Tan, that makes total sense ^^
To me Thad's lack of parents makes sense because even though I haven't read the novel it seemed to me like he looks up to Tan like a father figure or older brother, which to me indicated he didn't really have family of his own or at least wasn't close to them.
The fact that none of the high school kids seem to have parents (or even just guardians! I'll take an aunt, an uncle or a grandparent, too! haha) is still kinda weird to me. I know Thailand might be a little different but I still don't think that it would be normal for all these kids to live by themselves and not a single family member visiting them in hospital? If they can have an actor playing the school principal visiting Nam in hospital they could have had a parent, so I don't think it's because of Covid. I think they might just not have thought about it. Maybe they thought no one would notice haha
I agree. The fact that none of the kids seem to have any family or guardian was also weird to me. Even the girl, yes I know that the prostituition rings kidnap girls that usually have no one to be looking for them, but when they went to her house to look for her, the house looks huge and I found it hard to believe that she'd be living there alone. It would be one thing if these kids were living in orphanates or institutions, but they seem to be living in regular houses alone.
Another thing that is confusing me is that Tan and Bun faked their death to survive those shady men and save the kids in the process, however they're going out everywhere with no issues and don't seem concerned in hiding and protecting their identities. Also, no one seems to care that they were dead and now they're not... wouldn't it have come up on the news or something that they died being shot the way they did but now are seeing roaming about everywhere openly?
@AnniaD
I thought it was weird, too, that the whole faking their death thing never came up again. No reaction from the bad guys or the townspeople to the fact that they were alive at all. I mean I guess they have achieved their goal of getting That back (and a little later Nam, too) and they seem to be sure that the bad guys can't find them in Tan's second house so they don't keep pretending anymore. Though I'm not sure why they wouldn't keep pretending to be dead since that could help them. I think to me there's just a tiny little scene missing just to acknowledge that whole "they're alive after all!" thing

Agree. And when they started going out as if nothing happened, Nam hadn't been found yet. Even when Bun came to his assistant and the other nurse, it just seemed too risky for someone who should be hiding and faking his death. But them going to the police station and even the fact that it looked like they could hear the interrogation of the sister (together with Pued's brother) from the other side of the door and stand there as if nothing happened, seemed so weird to me. Why would the police even let Pued's brother be at the vicinity like that? Also the inspector who helped them fake their death, why was he at the police station with them as if nothing happened? It's as if they forgot they should be hiding.
The issue with their fake death and subsequent reappearance is a plothole that was never tied...it could be an editing issue/missing scene. Because we know that Bun went to his collegues during the night to get them to help him, but we didn't see anything after that regarding the medical staff knowing he was alive....Sometimes editing is a b888ch....

Asian families, especially Southeast Asian ones, tend to be closely-knit and often have extended families present. It‘s true that in many provinces, some parents to go to big cities like Bangkok or Manila (where I live) or Jakarta to work, leaving their children behind, but usually the kids would still be living in the care of relatives or some other guardians.
So yes, it’s weird that all of these Chiang Mai kids have no parents or relatives looking for them when they disappear for days on end.
The novel does have Sorrawit’s mother appearing in the special chapter, and Thad’s mother was at least mentioned in his backstory (whether she’s still alive in the present is unclear), but of course they’ve not been seen or even mentioned in the show. (Nam and Natty aren’t in the novel.)
My best guess is that the production team just deliberately ignored it. It’s already a pretty complicated story with a big cast, so adding multiple parental figures looking for their missing kids would just add another layer for them to weave in. (Would’ve been nice, though, if at least they explained something in a quick dialogue like, “Sorrawit’s parents are out of town” or “Nam was very recently orphaned, and she’s living alone until her relatives from Pai take her in.”)

I also think that the issue might be editing and cut scenes, because I feel like something is missing between Bun showing up at night at the hospital and then the next episodes them going around in plain day light and everyone seeming to be ok with them being alive and well. And I've also wondered in other episodes if there are also scenes missing like them coming to conclusions out of a sudden or characters who were mad at each other suddenly be alright with each other without no apparent explanation. It might be cut scenes.
Ok, so I guess that’s that as of Episode 13 with the revelation that Rungthiva is the sole killer of Jane, and unlike the book, does not involve Pued as a second killer, and also unlike our guesses, that Oat is involved LOL
I am actually both relieved and disappointed that Oat isn’t involved (unless they have one last twist which I doubt). Relieved because it’s pretty close to the book except they removed Pued from the equation, but disappointed because this means that MD (the actor playing Oat) didn’t really have a major role. To my point before, it would be a waste to create an entirely new character that would have no major role when this role could’ve been filled in by any of the other existing hospital characters in the book... and then hire a BL-known actor to fulfill the role. I guess it was all really just for marketing and pull.
I did like that they changed it so that Pued, instead of being one of the killers and in cahoots with Rungthiva in the murder, is a key witness.
The little details around the phone had analogies in the book, and although not exactly the same - which was a nice thing. In the book, the phone revealed Pued was in contact with a mysterious woman hiding behind an anonymous username; of course she turned out to be Rungthiva, and they entrapped her to confess. The series kind of used the phone, too, but in a more exciting way suited for a show. It was a good way to keep the key parts of the revelation while adapting it and changing it up.
Judging from the trailer for the final episode, it looks like Por will fill in for Tann’s mother in the climactic scene where the life of Tann’s relative is used as leverage. I thought Thad already filled that role when he was used as leverage against Tann a few episodes back, but it looks like they will recreate a different (and more climactic) scene from the novel.
In the book, it was Por and his men who took Tann’s mother hostage, with Por ready to kill them as revenge for Pued’s death. In the ensuring melee with the police who were called in with the help of Bun’s brother Boon (if I recall it correctly), Por gets killed. This all happens before Rungthiva and Pued were revealed as Jane’s killers.
On the show, I am predicting that - since the trailer shows Rungthiva has taken Por hostage as leverage and Commander Tung about to assassinate them - it will be Inspector Aem (who has likely recovered, maybe with the help of Oat - who I am guessing now has suspicions about police corruption since he saw Gun try to kill Aem in the hospital) who comes to the rescue and has a shoot-out. Probably they would have the anti-human trafficking police from out of town.
My guess is that Commander Tung is the one who dies in the shootout instead of Por in the book (giving Aem the promotion he has in the book) and Rungthiva survives - and Rungthiva is the one who exposes the Judge and the Congressman , alongside evidence from the SD card (copy probably made by Aem) and perhaps some more files from Jane’s email (since Tann and Bunn found her password last episode). This effectively dismantles the prostitution ring.
Por probably also will survive and would develop a better brotherly relationship with Tann.
If these are the directions, I love the change that (1) Pued, though has accountability in what happened to Jane because he allowed her to be use, is not one of the killers and that overall the series made him more sympathetic, and (2) Por is alive and possibly will be the family that Tann lost. Is Por a still a douchebag? Yes. But I do like gray characters, and I like that they have made him grayer and more layered on the show than he (and Pued) was in the book.
Same with Rungthiva, who was barely developed in the book (as was Jane). We got to see significant character development and enhancement than what was in the book, where she was - to be honest - pretty generic and lacked the stature she has in the series.
All in all, this show really has done a great job in being faithful enough to the book while changing things to be more exciting and cinematic.
Even though i didn't read the novel but i knew that Rung is the murderer and i was suspecting her from the starting of the second episode when she said who died? It knocked my mind that she is the killer.
But I'm a upset that how could a sister do that besides this 13th episode made me cry hard that was really bad .
allancarreon:All in all, this show really has done a great job in being faithful enough to the book while changing things to be more exciting and cinematic.
I agree with your predictions for next episode.
Personally I wasn't convinced that Oat was a bad guy or somehow helping them anyway, and as soon as he caught Gun trying to kill Inspector Aem I think that was confirmation that he didn't collude with them. I'm just surprised Gun left like that, I thought he would try to kill Oat because Oat was a witness to a murder attempt, essentially.
Also, regarding the SD card evidence - I've rewatched some of the episodes and saw that Tann and Bun had received a USB drive from the tech guy who retrieved the data, so they definitely have a second copy of it hidden somewhere. And yeah I think the email will come in handy, too. Maybe they can retrieve the missing data via the email, or some other kind of evidence on the judge/congressman/chief. Or maybe they'll use the email to schedule a copy of the murder video being sent at some point in case they get killed while they're out there trying to save Por from the bad guys.
Also I like reading your comparisons of the book and show, since I personally haven't read the book and for now I don't really plan to read it, so I just find it interesting as a sort of backdrop or extra information to everything that's happening in the series.
blwife:that was a guess so i didnt think it would be a spoiler cause i guess this over 3 weeks before we found out she was
The episode that was released just a few hours ago (Episode 13) revealing the killer is meant to be a VIP episode (ignoring the fact that some folks are getting it through illegal uploads outside WeTV).
It is not yet released for the main audiences. Episode 13 is to be released next week the larger population officially.
What is officially released to the non-VIP audiences is Episode 12.
So yes, it is a spoiler for those who are not on VIP and who are not going to illegal sites.
blwife:i didnt watch it on wetv i thought yall also watched it if you didnt you can on every bl series 5 look up that channel on youtube
We watch it on the official links on wetv. It's legal. The YouTube videos are reposted and don't support the creators of the series. Reposted content is illegal, as it violates copyright.
