⚠️⚠️⚠️ Some Spoilers Ahead ⚠️⚠️⚠️
These theories and inferences are basis what I have seen till Ep 7. I have seen the movie, and while some elements are common, the drama has taken quite a different direction. So sharing my thoughts below:
[Inference] Why O Du Ri/Mal Sun and Emily look alike?
- Basis the photographs show in Ep 7 - it seems they were sisters.
- Long time ago, the twin sisters separated - one staying back with her father, and the other migrated to US with their mother
Emily's Storyline:
- [Inference] Somehow in her 60s - Emily in LA came across the taxi driver and has turned young (it seems to be a service he is giving many) but why - not many ideas except she too wanted to pursue her singing dreams.
- [Inference] This is where Daniel met her in LA auditions and she was brought back to Korea and was about to debut as an actress.
- [Theory] Not sure but am assuming the young age is for limited time, as she was taking medicines (eg. female hormones) to keep her youth as she might have started seeing the changes. Eventually this is why she disappeared as she became older.
- [Theory] She probably had fallen in love with Daniel in her young Emily form - but cannot reciprocate now that she is older.
- [Theory] She also realizes that she did wrong in a way to her father/sister - while living a life of priveledge in US as her sister suffered in poverty. While directly not the cause of it but could have easily been her, plus they never checked on them or came for the father's funeral. All this guilt is why now that she cannot be young - she wants to make amends with her sister.
Parallel Mal Sun/O Du Ri Storyline:
- [Inference] She grew up in poverty, working in the club (Royal Salon) and fell in love//respected the shy guitarist / songwriter who eventually passed away (Chun Ho).
- She was betrayed by Ae Shim - who took advantage of her and debuted with the "Man in Yellow Shirt" song
- [Theory] Either it was Chun Ho or that guy we see with Ae Shim when Mal Sun went to confront her - who is the father of the child Mal Sun had (Ji Sook). I am guessing it was the latter and it was not a consensual relationship which is why there are no photos/wedding etc.
- [Theory] The aunt who is now connected with her daughter - is also taking advantage of her money OR maybe the hospitalized man is someone Mal Sun briefly had a relationship after Ji Sook was born, but realized that he was not a good man (abusive/gold digger) and so left. But Ji Sook does not know this and therefore has a misunderstanding that her mother is wrong.
- [Theory] Emily (old) remarks while seeing the photos if Ji Sook is Mal Sun's real daughter. Maybe she is Ae Shim's daughter who was abandoned by her because she was on the rise to stardom, and father was the guy/manager with her. Maybe Mal Sun sees Ae Shim abandoning the child somewhere and picks her up. This is a bit far fetched, but just thinking . . .
Possible Endings: [Theory]
- If it goes on same track as the movie - and given Ji Sook is her real daughter, Mal Sun would achieve her dreams as O Du Ri but Ha Na might meet some accident and therefore she would have to donate her blood and will return to her old self. Mr Park would also donate blood or something, and turn back to his old self too, and they probably might carry on their love story or remarry each other.
- But the movie showed that Mr Park becomes a younger version of himself - but in this drama he is young quite early on, so am assuming they will fall in love and enjoy the youth while they can, and eventually become old again. Once they do - they might decide to remarry each other. This would be without Ha Na or Ji Sook having any accident - so doubtful and still earlier theory makes more sense cause it is dramaland.
- Given the cast shows Daniel as a ML - I still can't think how, but either Emily or O Du Ri will end up with him. He also liked Emily but then he likes the antics of O Du Ri. But then we have a Mr Park younger version too - so it all very convoluted.
Case 1: He ends up with Emily ~ as he always liked her, and O Du Ri will sacrifice her youth and pass it to her sister (maybe Emily will be in accident and blood transfusion will be with her). O Du Ri will become Mal Sun and reunite with Mr Park who too will give up on his youth.
Case 2: He ends up with O Du Ri - as overtime they come to like each other. There would always be a threat looming over her head that she can turn old anytime, but maybe Mr Park will sacrifice his youth and give it to O Du Ri - while becoming friends with Emily, who will continue to live on as Mal Sun.
Case 3: He goes solo or ends up with his friend from the company (who definitely likes him since long). O Du Ri and Mr Park will remain together - young or old, does not matter. Emily may remain old with them, or go back to US OR she becomes young and goes ahead with the singing career with Ha Na being the music director (not idol) without attaching themselves to any man for the end of drama.
