I'm looking for dramas and movies taking place in the late 19th or 20th century.
Genre doesn't matter as long as it's good ;)

Looking forward to your recommendations!

Examples (already watched)

Mr Sunshine
Reply 1988/1994/1997
Taxi Driver
Swing Kids
The Handmaiden
Chicago Typewriter

These are two that I recommend :)

I haven’t watched The Bridal Mask but I’ve heard that it’s good.

The Hymn of Death

The Bridal Mask

Also:

  • Capital Scandal - funny
  • Eyes of Dawn - epic! though very hard to find with subs
  • Sandglass - Epic, and recently the subs has been released
  • Girls generation 1979 - love this adorable drama
  • Giant - awesome
  • Inspiring generation - dropped this one
  • Different Dreams - dropped this one too, even with my love for Yoo Jitae
  • Basketball - havent started this because of a reveiw I read sometime ago
  • Road one - too sad
  • Lights and shadows - too long
  • Friend, Our Legend - the movie was waaay better
  • The Eldest  - very long daily drama
  • Also try checking the TV novel series, and most of the dramas here are dailies and pretty long winded narrative
  • Upcoming:
    • Pachinko
    • Youth of May
    • Snowdrop
  • Drama special/ Mini dramas / TV movies:
    • Snowy road - must watch
    • Kang Deok Sun’s Love History - funny
    • Red teacher - cute min
    • Freedom Fighter, Lee Hoe Young

Nokdu Flower, Giant and Capital Scandal are my personal 19th/20th century favorites that you haven't seen. Capital Scandal is by the same writer as Chicago Typewriter, but set entirely in the past. Giant is a sweeping look at South Korean history from the 70s to the early 2000's as told through the experiences of one family. Nokdu Flower is about the 19th century Donghak Peasant rebellion. There's also Bridal Mask, which is "a lot" and may or may not work for you, but it has its  moments.

Wow! Thanks to everyone for these amazing recommendations!
