I was reflecting on my favorite part of A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower aka how the viewer begins the series distrusting and disliking virtually all the characters but ends up feeling deep sympathy and love towards (almost) every single one by the finale.

Are there any shows that trick the viewer into expecting one thing (from the plot or the characters) but what you end up getting is something completely different? I’d prefer if this unexpected shift led to an elevation in the drama’s quality, like with the example above, but you can recommend even shows with tonal twists that are imperfect but at least tried to do the unexpected.

Trinity of Shadows - similar to A Murderous Affair in the Horizon Tower in regards to expecting one thing but then getting something completely different. Lots of twists and the ending is very very unexpected.

Burning Ice - so this has a very surprising character development in regards to one of the male leads. There are a few surprised and twists.

Watcher - You get a case delivered and truly till the last episode you will not know who is truly a villain and who is not.

Someday or One Day - little supernatural story. But full of twists and amazing mystery.

Tienstin Mystic - this is tricky. There is a second season but sadly the male lead got replaced and one kinda has to get used to that. Still there are a few surprised and its truly well done. The ending I did not expect at all.

Then there is the Light on Series. There are a few very good ones like;
The Bad Kids - that ending was very unexpected
Kidnapping Game
Gold Panning - this drama is not something for everyone. You will either love it or drop it. If you do enjoy it, it is a gem full of surprised and twist. But one truly has to be up for it.

The Light in Your Eyes (this one is a plot twist that I think most did not see coming and at times might be frustrating to watch when trying to understand how everything connects)

Trolley (this one has lots of twists but also has a slow pace so it might be frustrating to watch)

Work Later, Drink Now (This one had a tonal shift starting at episode 9 that really took me by surprise in a good way)

Oh boy! Let me preface this post by saying: don't read the synopsis and enjoy the ride.

It's less thrillery than any of the shows mentioned above but a great watch nonetheless! My favourite Cantonese show

For something slightly weirder.
