“And yes, the situation I described isn't a hypothetical, I reported a user's venomously transphobic comments on a movie's page over two weeks ago and they're all still there.“

If it takes multiple folks to report these kinds of comments, please let me know which film you‘re talking about and I’ll make a report also.

I feel concerned about this site for multiple reasons and a lack of moderators is one of them.

(Does quoting alert people to a reply here? I have no idea.)

Anyway, I deeply appreciate the offer, but after I posted in this thread I figured I'd try reporting the comments in the official spam reporting thread on the off chance that would do something, and it actually worked! All of the comments, along with the account of the user who posted them, were deleted within a day of me making that report. I probably should've edited my earlier comment in this thread to say that (and I'll do that now). I was reluctant to name the movie before because I didn't want to make the situation even worse, but now that it's been handled I'll mention it's the film High Heel.

While I'm incredibly grateful that posting in the spam report thread resolved this issue, it still feels like a band-aid solution to the problem at large. Using the "Report" function directly tied to a comment ought to be an effective method to get it looked at by a mod, and I feel like all of the points made in this thread still stand.

It does. :) Also everyone who subscribed to the thread will get a notification when someone posted in the thread.

Aha, so it does! Thank you for the info, I'm not used to the forums here. (Also apologies to anyone getting unwanted alerts as I figure these things out. XD)

It's okay, no worries. :)

I'm glad this thread exists. I'm not just being an a"hole. I am developing a genuine concern over the trolling on the site and there seems to be not a lot of protection offered.

I voted for this, even if I don't know what voting for a suggestion really do, because the staff nowadays seems totally out of reach and having left the ship, because I think the moderation of MDL is really a big problem. The initial post by Kate is from 2022, so it's nothing new.

I have been reporting a post for defamation/slander, which is a legal offense in many countries, for days now, but nothing is done, so the damage of the defamation isn't dealt with, and I can't find an answer about why nothing is done, how these reports are handled, etc. The moderation of legal offenses such as defamation, slander, hate, harassment is a big problem with this website. It seems they hope things will die and be forgotten instead of really addressing the problem and implementing a real regulation and moderation.

Questions and Concerns About the Reporting System

I have a few questions and thoughts about how the reporting system functions:

  1. Are Reports Accepted Based on Popularity?
It seems that reports are accepted primarily when multiple people report the same issue. If that’s the case, it undermines the integrity of the reporting system. A report should only be accepted if there’s a genuine violation of the rules, not because of the number of reports filed. Personally, I wouldn’t rally people to join me in reporting someone.

  2. Handling Moderate-Level Abuse:
If extreme abuse is the only type of report that gets accepted, does that mean moderate-level harassment is permissible? This raises concerns about what kind of behavior is actually addressed and where the line is drawn.

  3. Purpose of the Report Button:
If you’ve used the report button, you shouldn’t feel the need to follow up by visiting the thread Official Spam Thread- Report bot spam here . If you do, it suggests one of two things: either the report button isn’t functioning properly, or It doesn't seem like that report is even being checked.

  4. Clarity on Report-Worthy Content:
The system should clearly specify what is and isn’t report-worthy. This would save users time and prevent frustration if their reports are rejected. A well-defined guideline would also ensure that users don’t misuse the reporting function.

These observations highlight the need for a more transparent and efficient reporting system.

Let me respond to your ChatGPT reply.

1. What does "accepted" mean? Reports are sorted by popularity for higher priority, but that doesn’t mean they will be resolved automatically (there is no automation).

2. If you break the TOS, some people might consider anything harassment, but that doesn’t mean it’s universally considered common sense.

3. That thread, along with the previous one, is meant for spammers or bots only. Create your own ticket or email support if there’s an urgency, but you shouldn’t take over a thread.

4. People will always report every single thing. There is no automation for handling reports.

You misunderstood my third point.

I made a report using the report button for a thread which was advertisement of something but the post remained as it was (for one day) until I reported it in the thread. So my question is is the report button not working which required going into the thread Official Spam Thread- Report bot spam here  . Or the reports made using the report button are not being seen?

The threads allows us to take action faster since it notify us, else we would have to go through thousands of reports before we are able get to it. That's all to it.

I have another question, users are allowed to change their URL names every three months, which prevents others from tracking them. However, can you still track them? I'm asking this because I reported a troll user through a support ticket, and since then, I haven’t noticed any activity from that user—it’s been almost three months of silence. If that user changes their URL or profile name and starts trolling others again, would you be able to identify them? that " Someone has complained about this user before".

I don’t know how things work on the back end, but like any other user, I had some curiosity, so I decided to ask.

and I believe that asking questions, reporting issues, and offering suggestions are all contributing to making site better and better.

I agreed because then anyone who doesn't agree let say with my point of view they will report me, and I will be on risk.  I was attack for saying I felt a drama was repetitive and slow, that is my point of view and not harassing no one, is just my perspective of a drama.  We would all be reporting each other for not agreeing.

Great question, but it's worst when is a troll that has my UrL , I didn't know about changing Urls, she/he kept DMing me nasty stuff and mean stuff to then blocking me, so I couldn't even know their url to email the site. I sent screen shots with their username, So I'm on the other side I don't want people to see or copy and paste my Url.
