The stars appeared but they didn't see it.
In one way, I think it means they are gonna take sometime to be together again. But definitely they will be lovers forever since that's what the purple star means.
But with all that foreshadowing of illness, the scene turning into a portrait with sad bgm (in the trailer) ; I really can't tell what the writers are referring to as 'forever'.
Whether it means I will love you forever even if death do us apart implying an indirect happy ending for the characters (DW and YZJ loved each other, YZJ got revenge and had a happy life before death and later DW lived on to be a businesswoman dwelling on the memories with YZJ or an actual happy ending where YZJ gets the cure; I am really not sure about it.
Obviously I want the latter- actual happy ending!
Isn’t it a profound symbolism? How the two purple stars finally appear, only for DW and YZJ to completely miss them, even after waiting so long? It feels like a reflection of their journey together—yes, they’re fated, but fate alone doesn’t clear the path. Their struggles, their blind spots, and their individual battles all create this distance between them. It's as if the stars are saying, 'Here’s your destiny, but you must still choose it.' This drama so perfectly weaves that recurring theme: no matter what destiny might lay out for us, it’s our choices that bring it to life. We’re the ones who shape our fate. The ending, whether HE or SE, are in the hands of DW, YZJ, and the writers.
I hope for a happy ending too. They are soul mates. Otherwise what's the point of the scene with the stars. Besides, they've talked about having their own home, and it would be very disappointing if they don't get that. They've both suffered so much and there have already been too many deaths along the way. She doesn't need his death to evolve and neither do we. Let's cross our fingers.

Beautifully said! I got goosebumps reading this. And with your words "we're the ones who shape our fate" I have hope they will be together in the end because they are both strategists so to speak. Duanwu should have figured out there is something going on with YZJ and that he would never want to leave her.

I agree. I hope the writers know they shouldn't put the leads through struggles only to die at the end.

Well, it is also symbolic that the purple stars exist therefore the realization of hopes and dreams exist and just as the two purple stars appeared, all things are possible with love. But as you said, we also have choices to make. Fate is not the single determining factor.
insideout91:I think that portrait scene can be last scene in drama, maybe with open ending, like we don't know for sure will he has long life or no
There also moment in trailer where DW mourning someone near altar, burning incense sticks , but it can be also her parents, or Shrimp
The dramas sometimes leave us with that question. In Who Rules the World,I like to think they figured out a way for the ML to have more time. I hope this is not an open ending though. I don't like them or SE.

Yep between OE and BE I will choose open🤣 but I really hope they will give HE, because as other people said both of them lost so much already, DW lost her parents, her young "brother" her friends, same as YZJ who lost his parents, sister , new team
I feel like it's enough already, both if them never can be completely healed and happy with all those lost, but having each other , will give them love and comfort

I saw a video where a director got an award for creative ending. I think they are all competing so they like to change book endings to open endings or sad endings. With opening endings, as long as they leave enough hints to make it a happy one, I rather that than SE.
Very bad ending and I need to vent. No matter how good a drama is, if I have known the ending is bad, either because it's viral and read it somewhere or I specificly look for it before jumping in, I always avoid it. But mostly I just jump in and experience a broken ending randomly.
It is very obvious that Yan Zijing died. Because :
- He didn't come in the Treasure Exhibition.
- The expression of Su Mu Zhe during the whole exhibition looks sad.
- She chose to travel to overcome her sadness.
It could be made a happy end by :
- Utilizing the blood pearl as an antidote, the one smashed by Su Muzhe was a fake, and the real one is accidently dropped into the pot when she cooks for Yan, thus infusing antidote into the food for Yan and the pearl becomes white.
- Yuchi gives the antidote for life in prison instead of a death sentence, not because he's afraid of death but because he believes he can escape as long as he's still breathing, which he never actually does.
- The Imperial physicians managed to make a cure or at least extend his life by ten or twenty years, later in their journey they go to the West or foreign country and being healed then return home to settle.
- Or whatever works.
What's done is done though, guess I'll have to live with it and move on to the next next drama, but I have to say it again it's a very bad ending, esp after watching another one like this just recently. Not this bad but bad enough even though it can be interpreted differently, and the coincidence is, it's starred by one of the same cast from here.
I believe that Su Muzhe set out to the western regions with Yan Zijing. At the jewel exhibition, she looked impatient and obviously didn't want to be there. If he had died, other people like Zhang Jin Ran, Yue Yun Xiu, and Cui Shi Jiu wouldn't look that happy. Another hint was given, just before the jewel exhibition scene, there's a quick glimpse of two purple stars meeting each other during the flashback. I cried so much during my watch and yet I didn't feel sad like I thought that I would over the ending. Su Muzhe and Yan Zijing stayed together until 'death do us part', then she continued to pursue her dream to travel around the world doing what she loved. Yan Zijing had his wish, justice was served and family honor restored. Who doesn't love happy ending but overall I am satisfied with the ending.
