Raised by her mother in the U.S. after her parents' divorce at age 12, Cindy graduated with dual majors in Music (piano) and Broadcast Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. She later moved to Taiwan. She was also a member of the women's American football team and won the title of Miss Chinatown USA 2009 after her mother entered her into the pageant.
Cindy's great-grandfather, Wu Ren Li (吳紉禮), was a Taiwanese Navy officer who served as acting Minister of the Navy.
