In 1964, while still in college, she was scouted by Nikkatsu Corporation and made her debut under her real name, Yasuda Michiyo (安田道代), in the film "Kaze to Ki to Sora to". She dropped out of junior college to focus on acting full-time.
In 1971, she left Daiei Film before its bankruptcy and became a freelancer.
In 1976, she married Okusu Yuji, one of the founders of the pioneering Japanese designer brand "Begi," and changed her stage name to Okusu Michiyo.
