Song Zu Er is a former child actress who first debuted in the Chinese television drama "The Sea and Sky Boundless". In 2007, she starred in her first film "You Are An Angel". She became known to the audience after starring in the ancient fantasy drama "Prelude of Lotus Lantern", playing Nezha.

After that, she participated in the stage play "Magic Umbrella" and also starred in the children television series "Lucky Rabbit Spirit".

Song made her television comeback in 2016, when she starred as the lead in comedy film "Papa". In 2017, she joined the cast of outdoor variety program "Divas Hit the Road" and following the program, her popularity started to rise and she was casted in the wuxia drama "The Dark Lord" and in the fantasy epic drama "Novoland: Eagle Flag".

Song Zu Er enrolled in the Beijing Film Academy in 2018, after placing third in the National Higher Education Entrance Examination. Forbes China listed Song under their 30 Under 30 Asia 2019 list.

In 2020, Song appeared in CCTV New Year's Gala for the first time, acting out a skit "Airport Sisters".

The actress family have taken over managing her financial affairs as early as 2020. On November 28, 2022, the actress contract with her previous company Xitian Film and Television have expired.

On August 31, 2023, a former employee of Song Zu Er filed an allegation with the State Administration of Taxation against the actress for tax evasion and possible fraud in the amount of 45 million RMB. The former employee used their real name which is rare in whistleblowing cases. Neither Song nor her studio has responded or denied anything. An investigation is underway.
