Nakazono lost her father at the age of 10 and her mother to illness when she was 19. After graduating, she joined an advertising agency but left after a year and three months. She worked as a copywriter and a Four Pillars of Destiny fortune teller before becoming a scriptwriting assistant to screenwriter Tanaka Yozo (田中陽造).
She debuted in 1988 with "New Town Substation" (ニュータウン仮分署) and decided to become a full-time screenwriter in 1993, after the birth of her first son, feeling it was a job she could balance with raising a child at home. She returned to work in 1995 with the Fuji TV drama "For You" (フォー・ユー).
In 2007, she published her first essay, "Love Loves Me, Is That a Problem?" (恋愛大好きですが、何か?).
