Lee Sung Woo
- Name: Lee Sung Woo
- Native name: 이성우
- Also Known as: Lee Seong U
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Male
- Born: December 8, 1976
- Age: 49
In 1994, Cha Seung Woo formed the band CRY BABY (크라이 베이비) with 2 more friends from high school. They were able to perform in small festivals at first before they moved to clubs in the Seoul district of Hongdae.
Around the same time, he was performing at one of those clubs as a guest vocalist for CRYING NUT. After meeting Cha, he decided to join their band and re-branded as NO BRAIN. The name comes from their desire for concert-goers to leave their rational minds at the venue doors.
He made his official debut in 1996 with their album "Our Nation Volume 2", a split album between them and the duo WEEPER. They also contributed a cover of "Lithium" to the Nirvana tribute album "Smells Like Nirvana", and several tracks to the South Korean punk compilation "Here We Stand". They are widely considered one of the godfathers of the South Korean punk scene.
In 2007, the band sold the rights to their song "You Have a Crush on Me" to Lee Myung Bak, a politician running for president. They did not endorse Lee's presidential campaign and the sale was done under the condition that the lyrics were changed, they faced a lot of backlash from their fans, specially because Lee had actively wanted to blacklist all independent singers back when he was major of Seoul in 2005.
The band remains one of the most well-known rock/indie acts in South Korea and has performed at several international festivals. They are managed by RoxtaMusic & Live (록스타뮤직앤라이브).
