- Also Known as: つしま としあき
- Nationality: Japanese
- Gender: Male
- Born: May 22, 1936
- Died: November 25, 2013
He graduated from Ehime Prefectural Imabari Technical High School, Electrical Engineering Department. He moved to Tokyo and attempted to enter the Tokyo Institute of Technology, but was unsuccessful. Instead, he enrolled in the Music Theory Department of the Faculty of Arts at Nihon University. Initially, he had no intention of pursuing music and continued attending a preparatory school in Yoyogi even after passing the entrance exam. However, he fell ill with jaundice during the summer vacation and had to battle the illness until the following spring, ultimately giving up on the Tokyo Tech entrance exam.
During his third year at the Faculty of Arts at Nihon University, he composed a piece called "String Quartet," which won an award at the Mainichi Music Competition. Encouraged by those around him, he decided to pursue a career as a composer. In 1964, he caught the eye of producers at Toei Kyoto with his work on "Three Outlaw Samurai," leading to an invitation to become a film composer.
On November 25, 2013, he passed away due to aspiration pneumonia at the age of 77.
