Bang Su Il was born Kim Young So in 1932 in Hamju, South Hamgyeong Province, Korea (Now North Korea).
In October 1957, as one of the 30 first-year trainees of the actor training centre at the capital film company, he began his career as an actor after six months of training. After auditioning in 1958, he was cast in a film directed by Hong Sung Ki and made his debut as an actor.
His debut film was 'Across the Mountain' (1958), a popular drama of the same name was on HLKA(KBS) radio at the time. Since his debut, he has been active in contemporary plays such as 'Park Seo Bang' (1960) and 'Three Deung Manager' (1961), and historical dramas such as 'Won Sulrang'(1961) and 'Lee Cha-don'(1962). Meanwhile, as a member of the theatre company's Shinhyup, he strengthened his acting skills by climbing the stage of plays such as 'The Seagulls' (1963), 'Othello' (1964, 1967), and 'Ire Do I Do I Do I Do I Do You Do'.
In the 1970s, he appeared in a number of martial arts and action films, including 'Blood of Arangok' (1970), 'Chulsu Moojung' (1971), 'Venom' (1975), and 'Duke Cannon' (1977).
