She made her debut in 2008 as a member of the group BANANA GIRL under Big Hit Entertainment. The group had debuted in 2003 but the agency saw it as a rotation group and kept changing the members until she was selected as the 4th and final vocalist to perform the single "Crazy, Crazy, Crazy". She left the group and the company in 2013 as she felt it was not the right fit for her career. She joined YG Entertainment soon after and she spent a few years there before leaving as well.
In 2014, she started dating Super Junior's Sung Min after both met in the musical "The Three Musketeers". After only dating for a year, the couple decided to get married on December 13, 2014. After leaving YG, she signed with Golden Eight Media but never found the right path for her. She modeled for Céci and Asiana Airlines and was part of Lena Park's MV for the song "Winter Kiss".
In 2020, she decided to enter "Miss Trot Season 2" where she surprised the judges with her skills and made it to the 2nd part of the finals before being eliminated. She legally changed her name from Kim Sang Mi to Kim Sa Eun and now uses the stage name Shantokki (or "Shan Rabbit") in her social media accounts and Youtube videos. She posts content about travel, diet and makeup.
On September 13, 2024, the couple welcomed a baby boy.
