I really wouldn't. 10 years is a lot of time and those thugs didn't spend any significant amount of time with ML either. Also, people age and faces change.

None of the ministers saw the coming, the emperor being the witness πŸ˜‚ Right chancellor your days are numbered!…
Hard to believe ML remembered some thug's face from 10 years ago. Unlike FL, who likely had him etched in her memory because of what he did to her. But whatever, if it saves FL...

Eh...I think the only thing they have in common is their focus on cases and the underlying female empowerment…
Well, to each their own, I guess.

I don't think so. Both of this year's dramas had atypical roles for BL and she delivered. I'm not even sure which one I liked more, the one in Unveil Jadewind or The First Jasmine. Out of all her works, imho, these two are some of the best. Mature and no-nonsense.

And to be fair, FL actress here is acting absolutely the same as in The Double. Actors work with what they're given, I think. You're being cast in a typecast role, you have no choice but to play a typecast role. I dunno about this drama's actress, but thankfully BL left her agency and started her own, she can choose her own scripts now.

I think maybe if they poured bigger budget into this drama and tweaked some things in the plot I'd have liked it more. Some things are just rather jarring. And FL here is kinda meh, she just doesn't have the presence and charisma FL had in UJ, or maybe it's just the actress. Bai Lu def is a show stealer in all her dramas, makes one stay glued to the screen. Here I'm having way more fun watching FL's female friend's antics.

This drama has more things going on than cases, sure, and I agree about utilizing side couple. But personally, I like Unveil: Jadewind more so far, it had a more focused plot and clear overall message, with each case further leading FL to certain realizations about her own job, life at the palace and revenge approach, culminating in a well thought out ending. The plot overall was very well thought out, let's see how it fares here.
And I strongly disagree about repetitiveness. FL there also wasn't as naively unbending when it comes to law like FL here, some of the untouchable villains made her resort to wily tricks and cunning plans of her own. It was very fun to watch. Though both FLs don't give af about authority, it seems, FL there at least was of high noble status and a close relative to dare throw hard facts at the emperor's face. Here FL is just baiting trouble talking to the emperor like that.
Romance there was also quite nice, though not the main focus, I can't complain. ML here is often giving me red flag vibes, I don't like these power tripping types, it's a very skewed relationship so far.

I've noticed this drama's plot is starting to look similar to Unveil: Jadewind. Badass investigator FL, another female sidekick, cases involving women's plight and rage inducing injustice. They even try to dress and style FL's hair similarly at times, but budget is clearly lacking. Some of Unveil: Jadewind FL's embroidered costumes likely cost as much as a whole wardrobe of this drama.
Anyway, not a bad thing per se, but Unveil: Jadewind was on another level compared to this drama overall quality wise. And ML wasn't breathing down FL's neck there, constantly trying to question her every move. They worked liked a cohesive unit.

He's also very healthy, which is even more crazy.

Realistically, that "her job" was way too much and hasty. This is why generally speaking men do believe…
He shouldn't have given her that position then. But since he did, he should stop getting in her way and actually help her instead of questioning her every move.

The thing is that for the first time in many historical dramas...the male lead is not agreeing with the female…
His behavior doesn't make sense, she's just doing her job, the job he put her up to do. If she did something bad, then yeah, suspicion and anger justified. But for now he's just power tripping.

FL is just doing her job, but everyone's bullying her like she's a criminal. ML especially is unlikable here, acting like a petty tyrant. He can't stand people not kowtowing to him, so he constantly tries to intimidate FL. Corruption is rampant, but he's barely doing anything about it. Just let her work in peace and back her up with force, if you can't do anything yourself, ffs. He needs to get off his high horse and earn his subordinates respect through wise action, not intimidation.

Also, subtitles have gone bad everywhere.

Guys, if the official platform has bad subtitles, the site we all know has good ones. No need to struggle with awful quality.

To be honest, I liked the first episodes. It was a solid start, and everything seemed very promising. But now…
FL with a few other graduates are given a new Intelligence office outside of the regular Six, under the direct supervision of the emperor. They will investigate criminal cases by the looks of it. Starting from that corrupt af FL's hometown.

Downvoting bots and haters, the usual.
Personally, I don't rate dramas before I finished them, nor do I rate them if I dropped them. But I'm liking it better than BoP so far, def more fresh plot wise.
