Only when it's clearly not as bad as the scores tout it here. And I've seen way shittier ones getting high 8s out of nowhere.

I'm looking for the novel's abridged version, not the drama's synopsis though. The drama's synopsis is all broad strokes, general premise.

So what's the long story short of the novel this drama's based on? FL will become a token minister and will serve in the court without ever marrying anybody?

Anything higher than 8.5 you can already take with a giant grain of salt. At that range MDL's biased scores are at their worst.

I think her main problem is that the actress looks too old for the role. Same thing happened in The Double. They keep pushing her playing those early 20s roles when she looks her whole 35+, even make-up doesn't help.

Wouldn't be the first time happening here. Scores on MDL are biased and cooked af.

I find the whole premise ridiculous, but SFL here is a show stealer. Watching mainly for her antics.

Because any regurgitated slop gets overrated here if it's a romance idol drama with pretty faces. It's like fast food or smth that most viewers are hooked on here. And everything else gets downvoted hard. I swear, the times I’ve seen people posting questions if there’s romance in a drama even when the genre is clearly tagged differently is astounding here. And so are dumb reviews complaining about it. So overall, it's hard to gauge what's actually good if you're not solely into this one type of drama or are looking for something fresh in this genre.

More like annoyed MDL scores can’t be trusted. Have to waste time checking out crap and it takes time to find good ones yourself. Lots of good dramas also get buried under overhyped ones, making it hard for newcomers.

POJ is one of the most overrated ones here to date.

I agree with Douban's score more. It also has way bigger sample size, here on MDL it's all romance idol dramas lovers mostly of a cetain age and gender.

At least I finished it. Some people here downvote dramas after dropping them.
As for rating, it didn't age well. The plot was fine, if a bit overhyped and draggy, but the rest is hard on the eyes if you're watching now.

MDL needs to adopt Douban's score system, lol. Scores will come down fast. But still, it lacks sample size Douban has, still gonna be skewed more.

You're the problem here, then. People coming in here fresh, without realizing how badly skewed MDL scores are, trying to find good dramas to watch and most at the top are basically one type. Hard to find gems buried below if you're looking for other types and genres.

Also, compared to other dramas of this type, it's still overrated. The only interesting thing here was that crossdressing female character's side story. Everything else regurgitated a hundred times, nothing fresh. FL actress also needs to get off botox or whatever it is she did to her face, she's struggling to emote.
