Your evaluation of differences between beggar is and LLH is very thorough.
I'm not sure if we agree on his reasons for his downshift.
My take on it is like, all his life he trained hard to be good at what he does to bring fairness,justice, and in general "good" to the world.
But he discovered he was a terrible brother, insensitive lover, overbearing "manager", a bully to subordinates.
To top it all off a bunch of his followers die due to his arrogance (as it turned out he is neither invulnerable nor omnipresent).
Yeah people admired his skills and determination but on a human level he was the worst person to be close to. LLH simply despised his old self as LXY and tried to forget that identity. So he didn't want to associate with anyone from that period because he knows when they look at him they remember his old self.

As far as farfetched explanations go, was the grooms escape was it. I knew he had to mingle with the maids to escape but we never saw him like was he feminine enough to pull it off or not. But then it's ... "the phoenix potion". I went like ... oh lads, come on. how are we supposed to know about it. Still good.

Well their relationship always had this friend&mentor kind of vibe to it. And in dark times me who else she could turn to. But yeah it always pissed me off she spent more time with him than with anyone else,he did the most for her. But nah... Doesn't know a good thing when she sees it.
