Haven’t watched that one yet. The only historical drama I rewatch is Are You the One. It’s my go-to drama when I need to restore my faith that good competent writing in C-dramas exists. I find it very frustrating that even high-budget dramas have sloppy writing or absurd storylines that make no sense and feature very tired annoying tropes 🙄

It’s great so far, but I’d ignore the ratings for now since it’s only 1/3 complete. MDL ratings are only slightly more reliable then Viki ratings, so there are plenty of 8.x dramas that are awesome, but didn’t get enough popularity or were downvoted by antis/haters.

I’m definitely not one of those people. I rewatch “Amidst a Snowstorm of Love” every winter ❄️☺️

Thank you for the historical information. Like MariaB mentioned, we were told in the drama that 20 taels of silver was enough for a year or more of household expenses (for regular people, of course), so being rented out for 30 taels or “selling essays” for 20 was certainly very nice for a common household.

Those people are weird. And current episodes aren’t even truly slow burn — there’s enough going on to keep things interesting.

At least in this drama the ML didn’t have to pretend to have… ahem, male performance issues to avoid sleeping with a wife 🤣🫣🙄

Comments page here has been nice, but still had to block some troll accounts. But other dramas have had good comments too, especially if it’s slightly lesser known stars that don’t have as many antifans/haters. “When Destiny Brings a Demon” is a great example — very friendly discussions about the sizzling chemistry ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 (The “worst” comments were when a few people complained that leads are kissing/being intimate too much which is kind of funny; maybe some people are too used to having only 2-3 kisses in a show).

ML definitely has a tough task ahead of him — protecting his new family won’t be easy because just about everyone knows about them, so they are a clear weak spot 🥺😳

Keep an eye out on it :) The worst part of waiting, though, is the Tencent app which periodically sends me notifications about it — every time I think it’s because they announced a release date 😩🥺😞

Sorry for the typo 😳 I meant to say “release”. WCR is The Queen of fireworks-named dramas (a title I gave her myself, lol). She has an unreleased romcom drama called “Love Has Fireworks” (with
Tan Jian Ci) but it’s not related to “Fireworks of My Heart” (with Yang Yang). The romcom Fireworks drama has been delayed because one of the secondary actors got into trouble but supposedly it’s all good now so Tencent just needs to choose a date. But next WCR drama release will probably be “Hidden Shadow” per rumors 🍉

Sorry for not making myself clear. I was trying to say that FH should have a much a lower rating. 8.7 is way too high for a drama that had great first 15 episodes and 20+ mediocre ones. People in the comments generally agreed that it went downhill, so that’s why I’m surprised it maintained its high rating 🤷‍♂️

Ah, some people complained about 2ML being featured too much in TPR? I forget that because I really liked the drama. Our Generation was probably a wrong script for a popular actor — he was absent for episodes at a time (and, frankly, despite best efforts by director & crew, there was only so much they could do with that script).

What were the two dramas: Our Generation and …? Becaue The Best Thing and The Princess Royal were well received, I thought.

It was hilarious that ML was made out to have, ahem, male reproductive issues just to explain why he wouldn’t sleep with her 🫣😁

WCR was great in How Dare You (surprisingly emotional drama) so can’t wait until Hidden Shadow (very soon, supposedly). And one day we will see release of Love Has Fireworks (I guess they waited long enough and one of the actors was finally cleared of all charges and doesn’t have to be replaced using AI 🤖)

This drama is very good so far. Bur if you are looking for some great recent dramas check out How Dare You (live action 2026 version), When Destiny Brings the Demon (censors fell asleep by allowing so many, ahem, romantic scenes), or even Love in the Clouds.

Ahhh… okay… HDY is actually very good. It starts off more funny but becomes very emotional as we grow to like characters and witness their sometimes tragic fates (but it’s not super depressing drama either). The end was about as good as the censorship rules allow. Censors made them cut at least one scene that explains some more things that happened in book world before they returned to real world, but that scene’s descriptions/dialogue are online.

I always wait until a drama is finished to give it a rating. But as of now it’d be 10/10 for me. Let’s hope the writers for remaining episodes are the same and they didn’t outsource writing to random people off the street 🙏

It’s pretty great so far! Apparently it crashed Tencent’s service on release even though it’s airing on iQIYI and Netflix at the same time.
