I enjoyed it but its frustrating to watch due to the editing. It could have been a cute short film. The golden retriever JiHun was adorable.

Also the Korean bl trope of silly misunderstandings (typically between introvert and extrovert) that gets resolved in the last episode is getting old.

Im sure Koreans have created that trope (and mastered it ) so that they can avoid any kiss scenes in the other episodes.

I think they have done a good job. I don't think a tv series should necessarily stick to the novel.
Even if I read the novel I dont mind surprises and changes in the plot.
But also be straight with fans and tell them its a very different story very loosely based on source material.

What do you mean? I have a lot of expectations.
I expect NN to play a pretty princess in distress and Z to play a cardboard knight in shinning armour with a few tortured facial expressions - but a change the scenery. I also have expectations that the ZN massive fandom will love it. You are right about "good" though.

PS In fairness I have seen Z act in WhyRU and he can act. His performances with NN have disguised that .

They must have taken a lot of creative liberties for the author to be unhappy and express it (who would have insider knowledge about production). I dont know how the thai fans can judge based on one episode but they seem unhappy on twitter.

I like the comedy and adaptation so far (but sympathise with author if they felt their book was butchered).

I get it, I would normally be annoyed at that type of over the top character - but I have been totally charmed.

I am enjoying the current adaptation, and am entertained by the actors (fabulous Nut) and the production so far.
I imagine show would have been more serious and a lot darker if politics was involved. It would have been a completely different show which I would not mind seeing either.

Are people here aware of the controversy about the adaptation of this novel. The show is being boycotted in Thailand. Fans of the novel are unhappy that "there is no politics in the adaptation of a 100% political novel" amongst other issues.

As an international fan i am enjoying this show and the performances so far. Personally, I am judging the show as completely separate from the novel (which i have not read).

I can understand both sides (anger of fans and author v producers not wanting to get involved in Thai politics - considering their political system )

I didnt know it was Nut until i looked at the credits. ( I didnt know or care much about this show until I watched first episode out of curiosity)

I feel I should apologise to you. I am glad you enjoyed the show. There are people who enjoy the genre, so shows like this deserve to be made irrespective of my tastes.

Over zealous fans of NN+Z who have made it entertaining to criticise the show because they would attack anyone who voiced a (reasonable) unfavourable opinion so it became fun to criticise the show. I didnt mean to insult anyone for enjoying this show and if I have done that, it was unintentional.

The issues I have:
-They have spent so much money on the show and on the superficial gold things- instead on focusing on a better script and story .
-They could have made 6 other series with this type of money (I don't care if they were similar shows about royalty fairy tales ether)

So I am sorry for making you feel defensive( for want of a better word.) Its not my intention

Im also going to miss this comment section. I want to thank the zealous fans of NN+Z who have made it so entertaining. They inspired me to be more critical and to voice my opinions often.

I agree with you about Jack and Joker. I know show did well but it lacked the emotional depth of their previous series where they did angst so well.

I came to watch this out of curiosity. I didn't think much of the trailer - probably that its not my type of show. I did not know much about this series - or pay much attention to it.

But I am loving this. And I cant wait for next episode. This show is such a pleasant surprise.
Nut is amazing in this role. Brilliantly funny actually.
I have seen him in other roles and was impressed by his looks. But now I more impressed with his acting talent. He has transformed himself into the character so well that I would not have recognised him.

I dont know if it was a success. Sure it trended but that does not make it successful.
A lot of viewers were bored and not entertained. It got attention but a lot is not positive.

It costs about £ 185 k to make an episode. An average quality bl costs about £30k per episode. (being conservative in estimates and converted Thai Baht to £ pounds )
How much MORE money do you think it would need to earn in order for the series to be successful? Compare this to the revenue earned by an average bl series.

If I was an accountant there - I would have rejected this project. I would rather have invested in producing 7 other bl series for the amount of money that was spent on TNP. A high cost production does not buy it "heart" or even a good script. This was a vanity project and I wonder who gave the go ahead.

I support non GMM creators but they could have spend this money producing better projects.

NN+Z play the same role but in different settings. This setting is a palace.
What is it about a young male adult that dresses up in fancy gold costumes and parades around like a pretty princess chasing a Zcardboard playing stoic knight in shinning armour, that you don't find cringe.

What intellectual capacity were they aiming for?
If i was 6 years old and into fairy tale romances about royalty i may have enjoyed this.

I dont mind being called a hater if that makes you happy. I hate that so much money was wasted to produce this boredom buffet.

I wish i hadn't started this- now i will have to wait every week.
