It is because the editing was really bad. In the last few episodes, the editing was all over the place. Something new would be happening in the current episode, and then they would suddenly start mixing in a lot of old footage with the new footage. At some point, you wouldn't even understand WTF was happening. You had to keep skipping through the episodes. And yes, compared to other shows, it is too long.
